Hadn't seen that, wow. I'm no lawyer, but I would say they can sue all the want, Alita Battle Angel (copyright) predates their Trademark by more than a decade. Magazine run from 1990-1995 and the English animation release known as Battle Angel in 1993 and repeated publication of that name. If anything, Fox can say Epic Stone Group lifted the name from their intellectual property which had already been using the title years prior to their trademark.

Just doing some more reading it seems this is a group that squats on names, registers for trademarks and then tries to extort money from whoever down the line. Never gonna fly. It will be dismissed.

This line intentionally left blank.

Had a problem with the last Australian link (Angus&R; the only one showing the 4k+3D in stock) - PayPal sends the payment (did it twice before I started having doubts), then the site crashes before the order confirmation; upon further investigation, turns out they don't ship internationally. Will wait for a refund.

Please share if you ever find a place to order it from... will end up paying $100-200 on ebay I'm sure, if it actually gets released that is.

According to blu-ray.com Alita will be released in 4K + 3D on June 25, 2019.

https://www.blu-ray.com/3d/ (look under "upcoming 3D movies")

The 4K+3D combo is listed on Amazon UK as "currently unavailable". I do hope it will become available in the near future, for a decent price. I'd like to have this one myself.

Another place to check in the near future is Amazon Germany. I just bought a 3D bluray of Venom there, that is not available from Amazon UK.

I ended up pre-ordering Alita from a site another user told me about but I had never heard of or used before (from the Czech Republic):

https://www.filmarena-eng.com/blu-ra...le-angel-3d-2d

Seems to be reputable so I placed a pre-order just in case.

I also asked on the Best Buy forums and they, (expectedly) said...

I can't recommend film arena to anyone anymore. I have been trying for weeks to cancel one of my two preorders (one preorder added another version) from them with numerous emails (probably 6 or so) and not one reply and no cancellation. I will probably ask my cc company to reverse the charge and won't be placing any future orders with them. Beware terrible customer service with them.

Beware of Zavvi. I have bought blu-rays from them on sale and they have not deducted the VAT, so don't count on that. They may choose to make extra $ off of you. I will only buy from them if there is no alternative. [Edit]: To clarify, everyone else, e.g., Amazon.uk advertised prices on their web sites that include VAT. VAT is not charged for orders going overseas. Amazon.uk automatically lowers the price to US sales by the amount of the VAT. Zavvi chooses to not to.

Thanks for the heads up. As a U.S. buyer I am clueless about VAT and was curious why the prices always went down when I checked out on Amazon UK. I assume Zavvi will not charge a higher price than the listed price+shipping, which is okay with me even without the VAT "discount."

VAT is a 20%(?) tax that the locals must pay. Not sure if that includes other EU members or not. Like sales tax in the US, it is collected by the vendor and then handed over to the government. All of the online prices you see from the UK include VAT. However, when someone from overseas orders, they are not supposed to collect the VAT, so the price comes down. Here is a site that calculates (I think accurately) what a price should be after VAT is removed: http://www.calculconversion.com/reve...r-uk-2018.html

So, what Zavvi is doing is collecting VAT from people who should not pay VAT and then pocketing it. I view this as a deceptive practice that should be reported to some agency over there.

I see your point although I would guess that actual shipping cost from the UK to the US is more than the 3.99 GBP they charge for a single blu-ray, so probably not exactly fleecing the customer by not passing on the VAT savings to us.

Shipping is actually pretty cheap when you do a lot of business and negotiate rates, so I don't know about that. I think most of these places charge actual shipping costs, perhaps rounded up a wee bit.

Amazon does not deduct VAT after discounts either. They deduct VAT first, and then reduce to whatever the discount amount is. This 2 for 18 sale going on with discs on sale for 12 GBP, for example, they ring up at 10GBP (12 less VAT) and then are reduced to 9 GBP.

Not only did they not subtract a VAT amount from the advertised price, but they also added the WA sales tax (in pounds!) to my order. They must be on the wrong side of the Brexit line; or a Schrodinger tax entity.

Wow, that's completely insane. Maybe notify your tax commission so they can follow up on whether they received the money.

I noticed that eBay charges WA state sales tax on purchases from international sellers paid in foreign currency. A bit different perhaps but I found that a bit off putting.

The problem is that amazon has a large presence in the US. Thus amazon UK is obligated to collect US tax for US destinations. I get the same treatment when ordering from amazon US to Canada.

https://blog.taxjar.com/internationa...sales-tax-u-s/

There is a minimum order price before tax is applicable. Amazon will refund your tax whenever it can. I think I've always got a tax refund for Blu-ray orders (not tracking it). Though it sometimes takes months.

I have the Alita 4K/3D steel book combo on pre-order from Zavvi
(that sold out within the first day after release)

I've ordered 50+ titles from Zavvi over the past couple years now.
Most often 3D/Steel Book editions I couldn't get in North America.
...and have never seen VAT added or import tax charges when shipped to Western Canada.

I don't recall a shipping charge over $3-$5 either, even on combined items,
That's half the cost of anything I've ever had shipped through ebay from Eastern Canada.

It's interesting that the 3-D takes first position on the packaging (Blu-ray 3D+ 4K +Blu-ray +Digital) and is also prominently mentioned in what appears to be a large sticker. Since the movie was shot with 3-D cameras, it's nice to see that.

They don't add VAT. The web page prices already include VAT. They simply fail to remove VAT thus charging you the equivalent of an extra 20% tax that is not supposed to be collected for overseas sales.

I cancelled my Zavvi order too but I pre ordered the Best Buy Steelbook...

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/alita-b...?skuId=6333207

It says online order only but hopefully at some point I'll be able to pick up in store. I got too annoyed with dented up steelbooks from rough delivery in the past...

I just Pre ordered from Best Buy there is also regular 4K/3D combo pack.

Best Buy Regular 29.99

Doesn't look like there is a 4K-less version but the price is decent with the combo.

I selected BB pickup. Last time I picked up a Blu ray 3D product in store was Blade Runner 2049 couple years ago.

Sweet Deal!

Too bad it's not available at BestBuy.ca (Canada) and BB.com won't ship here.
So I guess I'll wait for my Zavvi order (cost me $50 CAD) which sounds like a lot, even if VAT is included

But it's only $5 more than most 4K Steelbooks here Without 3D)

whats funny is that there are some on another forum complaining about having to paying extra to get the 4k/3d combo because it comes with a 3d disc and there is no option for just 4k alone. So for 30 bucks you get 4k+3d+2d discs when normally i paying around $30 to get a stand alone 4k bluray for a new release. I say good deal and most if not all movies should come as a 4k/3d combo if it is released with a 3d option.

I actually ordered the steel book version which was 34.99, I would have done shipping but it added shipping fee to the order. Usually I don't order steel books but decided to try it out for this one. Not sure why Amazon is charging so much , 49.99 vs .29.99 and Target is a few dollars more on the regular combo vs BB. BB charges tax and shipping though, mine was under 38.00 with pickup option.

If there was a 3D/2D only, less 4K disc I would probably buy that one. The 4K disc will go unplayed anyway. I suppose the 3D discs will end up on eBay 3D discs only, those that don't want them, so watch eBay if you just want the 3D disc.
