3-D Digital Film Restoration "El Corazón Y la Espada"(1954)

Kickstarter Campaign in Progress

3-D Digital Film Restoration "El Corazón Y la Espada"(1954)
This Main Feature will be included in 3-D Rarities II
The 3-D film will have an English track from 1954 and subtitles.

Per Robert Furmanek:

"We can certainly proceed with the sub-par element but this film will only get one chance at restoration.
Take a look at the before/after demo. Wouldn't it be better to work with 4K scans from the original 35mm camera negatives?

That's why we've delayed the project and launched a Kickstarter campaign.

Not been seen in 3-D since the mid-50's and having never been seen in discrete polarized 3D, it truly is a rarity!

Subtitles will be based on the original 1953 Spanish language track.

EL CORAZON has been on the front burner for over a year and it's literally taken that long to locate and negotiate for access to the camera negatives in Mexico.
Once again, letters and inquiries can take months for a reply. That's why the project has been delayed and why we have just now launched the campaign.

I could have thrown content together and gotten Rarities II out a year ago but it would have been sloppy and a far cry from our usual standards and what I know it can be.
We've set a precedence for excellence on 15 releases on 3-D Blu-ray since 2014 and I don't want to compromise that now.

I hope you ............ will do what you can to help us restore this rare film and present it in the absolute best possible quality.

3-D Rarities II will run close to 150 minutes (the same as volume 1) which includes the feature and 65 minutes of shorts plus a few image galleries."

From an E-mail I received today:

"Day 7 - As promised, the 3-D test clip is here

A little taste of what El Corazón y la Espada will look like once it's restored. Greg Kintz, from the 3-D Film Archive, has prepared this short test scan, and we're really excited to show it to you.

Your 3-D Blu-ray will be discreet left/right, but here on the web, we use the Youtube player, which plays back on computers and mobile devices in anaglyphic red/cyan (please use the Chrome browser). You can click on the gear at the bottom of the window to switch the 3-D off or on. You can also stream this video in the Youtube app on your 3DTV or VR headset as a side-by-side 3-D video.

Less than $5,000 to go to reach our goal! Help us get there and we'll be able to scan and restore the whole movie! *******.com/SaveElCorazon3d"

Well, it will finally arrive next month. Earlier this week, I got to see an advanced copy of the upcoming Flicker Alley Blu-ray release of 3-D Rarities Part 2. It is somewhat different than Part 1 which was release a few years ago. Unlike the earlier Blu-ray, this new one contains four sections. The first is 3-D short films. The second is a collections of Stereo Realist slides of American life in the 1950's and 60's. The third is the complete feature film el coraza n y la espada/The Sword And The Rose, the first Mexican 3-D feature from 1953 with the choice of Spanish (with or without subtitles), or English dubbed. Finally, more Stereo Realist 3-D slides from the vast collection taken by comedian Harold Lloyd in his later years, narrated by his granddaughter.

As I have come to expect, the team at the 3-D Film Archive have done a great job mastering the source material, the 3-D is flawless. From the description on the Flicker Alley web site, I initially thought the 3D Slides would be boring filler, but surprisingly not so. With the narration they are quite entertaining. For anyone into 3-D, this is another must have disc.
