SW Rise of Skywalker in IMAX 3D?!

Had no idea 3D would be returning for a feature film at IMAX theaters, but I saw that when I preordered tix last week. How many years has it been for a feature film to be shown in 3D at IMAX? A few years at least I would guess. Hope it's the old (non-laser) 3D as I still have my expensive IMAX 3D glasses I bought off Amazon years ago and only used once so far.

Just this year I saw Alita, Avengers:Endgame, Spider-Man:Far From Home, Aladdin, and Gemini Man all in IMAX 3D. Oops, I forgot to include The Lion King.

Yes, while there have been more flat IMAX screenings in recent years, there continues to be IMAX 3D showings on some titles. Personally, 3-D is the only reason I bother with IMAX, at least for the average movie. I have seen some screening for material that was actually shot with IMAX cameras, but for anything that is available in 3-D, I wouldn't see it in "IMAX 2D".

Some theaters were using the IMAX projectors and screens to show regular wide-screen REALD 3D. The image does not fill up the screen vertically. I saw Prometheus this way. This was awhile ago, though.

Oh geez, I guess I have not been paying attention as I had no intention of watching those movies in theaters (even though I own them, but will probably never watch them, on blu-ray 3D)!

Same here. Rather see 3D than IMAX 2D.

Ah, that's interesting. I wonder if any of those movies in the post above were filmed in IMAX 3D, probably none of them I would guess since IMAX announced several years ago that they were going out of the 3D (feature film) business. I guess that means Episode 9 will be RealD 3D on an IMAX screen. But aren't most IMAX multiplex screens not even real IMAX screens (with all the vertical space) in terms of aspect ratio?
