TV Deals for Super Bowl LII

If you're in the market for a new TV, the week before the Super Bowl is the best time to score a sweet deal.

I am surprised that LG is not discounting the OLEDs more. I was expecting BF prices on them. The 65X900E is also $1000 off right now as well.

LG 65C7P (Also XBR65X900E and XBR55X900E)
Denon x7200WA
Oppo BD-203
Klipsch RP-280F / RC-62ii / RP-140SA / RS-35 / RS-25
Dual PSA V1800s

I had hoped LGs would drop a bit more too, like $2300 for the 65”, I believe that was the Black Friday pricing. But I looked up pricing history for the 2016 models, and they didn’t drop lower than super bowl prices until the 2017s we’re out, and I’m assuming we’re hard to find at that point.

So I’m fairly confident that the 2017 LG OLEDs are bottomed out price wise until they are discontinued. I’m getting the 65” B7P from Costco today for $2550, 7 year warranty included and 4% cash back, plus tax. There were deals at beach camera for the B7 and C7 cheaper than Costco, but not worth it when you consider there’s no easy or free way to return should you get a bad panel in regards to banding.

There are deals around on oled. I just bought another one via beach camera, an authorized dealer b7 65? for $1999. You just have to keep your eye out on slickdeals

Yeah, I was hoping for major retailers like BB. Sine I have had panel on my C7 replaced ad some bad experiences with a Samsung I like places where I can do an easy return.

I understand your hesistence but I always just buy the Costco concierge square trade tv warranty for $90 and it is just like you bought it at Costco

That still doesn’t solve the issue of returning/swapping for another panel. With online retailers you are required to pay shipping back. At Costco you can walk in and out with a new one, same as best buy. The square trade is a great deal for protection should the TV fail, but unless I’m mistaken, it can’t be used to swap out panels should that have banding you aren’t pleased with.

???

I've bought from 3 different retailers over years where I had to return tvs. Never paid for shipping if I had a complaint about display. Only place that will make you pay for shipping is probably ebay.

I would like to cash in on these great sale prices. My question is which gives you more bang for the buck the X1 extreme processor or the full array local dimming? For example the Sony X900 has full array local dimming but it has the X1 processor not the X1 extreme. If I move up to the X 930 I get the X1 extreme processor but I lose the full array local dimming. the 930 and 940 are edge-lit unless you pay megabucks for the 75 inch and then you get the full array local dimming. Which one would you all go for: the X1 extreme processor or the full array local dimming or just wait for the 2018 models because the 900 will have both the X1 extreme and the full array local dimming?

I've got itchy fingers and cash burning a hole in my pocket but wait. Next year what I've read the three big TV makers are all going fald, and my TV will be just be fine for now.

I have to go bigger than 70" and when OTA antennas have 4k content that will be the time to buy. But to each his own.

These are just my opinions.

The x930e might be edge lit but it's better at local dimming than the FALD x900e.

You'll always be waiting for the next best thing if you're waiting around for next year. Fact is this time and black friday time are the best times to buy a tv. The 2018 models will be out in a few months but at significantly higher cost. For instance the x900f might drop in April but it will be $2500 again at 65" more than likely. Meanwhile a 65" x900e can be had for $1500 right now.

Too bad the Sony XBR75X940E doesn't seem to have any discounting going on. Guess they are not going to update that model for 2018. Also, the link in your link for the 900E is still showing $298 above your sale price so maybe that is not going to happen either.

So I guess you are saying to get the 930e. Even though it's edge lit, it's better than 900e? Plus it has X1 extreme.

That's what I did. I was debating between the X900E (ultimate value) vs the C7 OLED (ultimate picture) and opted instead to take the middle route and get the X930E. Granted, I got an open box 65" for $1699, so it was a no-brainer from a value perspective, but the picture quality is superb (not sure why it was an open box?). Under the same conditions (dark room) with the same content (UHD Blu-ray), my X930E is noticeably brighter while keeping blacker blacks than my father-in-law's X900E. I don't know what kind of magic Sony developed to get an edge-lit TV so uniformly dark, but I'm really happy with my decision.

The X1 does provide some additional processing benefits, including the addition of a recent Dolby Vision update, however the appear to have botched it in some way... so it remains to be seen how well it will perform wtih DV content in the long run.

In the context of this thread, I want to be clear that I do not watch sports, almost never, so I don't know which is best for the Super Bowel. My usage is evenly divided between movies, TV shows, and videogames.

The 75" 940E was $3,999 as a Best Buy deal of the day one day last week. I'm kicking myself for not pulling the trigger and holding out for a better deal this week.

Damn that is a good price. But if you hold out until the 2018 models come out and maybe even the successor to the 940E it should come down even more. Wishful thinking. Good luck with whatever choice you make.

What about post-game open box returns? Any deals there typically in past years?

Not sure about other retailers, but Best Buy prices shot up Superbowl Sunday morning. The 70" 690E went from 1199 to $1499. The 65" 850E went from $1099 to $1199.

Because they know those are most likely to be returned.
