Also I really do think their QC has been improved with the 6-series 75" releasing 8 months later than the 55" and 65". They likely knew this was an issue and worked to improve it before releasing the big one at the $1899 launch price... otherwise the January release just doesn't make any sense. If you read tons of reviews on all of them, you see high return rates on the 55 and 65, then much lower on the 75.
Anyway, that trend was enough for me to pull the trigger when the Best Buy version dropped to $1299 on the daily deal. Then it turns out my first panel has very very low DSE, even after running full-white test patterns and watching a full hockey game on it (go Blues
). There are definitely slight variations, but I have to work to pick it out in hockey, and absolutely can't find it with HDR-movie-type content.
All that is to say the panel lottery still probably does exist for the 75", but it's operating in an entirely different range than the 55-65. Some of those smaller ones from last year are just laughable in their splotchiness, while even the few returns you do hear about for the 75" are of the "well this is pretty dang uniform, but I want perfection" type.
