75 inch Samsung Q70 or Sony 900F < $1500?

It's wishful thinking but my fingers are crossed! I'd love a new TV this year but it may be smarter and wait until 2020 when most models will have HDMI 2.1. A $1500 price tag on a 75 inch Q70 or 900F would be enough to make me cave, though.

I am looking at both of these TVs. I think it's too wishful thinking. I see the 900F going back to $1799.99 or possibly $1699.99 at the lowest before the end of the year, but my bet is on the first number listed. If you live in the world of waiting for the next upgrade you'll wait for ever. Next year you'll want to wait for something else that will be in the 21 models. I can't make a decision on what I want yet, but I'm definitely going to decide on Thanksgiving week at the latest. These are the lowest prices of the year.

Both Sony and Microsoft are releasing new consoles next year that will support HDMI 2.1. Waiting another year, this time, seems like it may be worth it. Not to mention, most modern AVRs have 2.1 inputs/outputs. Content (gaming, maybe not movies) at 120hz 4k is likely right around the corner.

I had considered the X900F, but many reports of dim Dolby Vision and HDR made me decide on the Q70R instead (82", FWIW)

Enjoy the Q70R, however the reports of dim DV and HDR are blown out of proportion. A simple gamma or brightness adjustment can remedy that. I just got the 900F last week and have no issues thus far.

I'm curious, what Dolby Vision content are you watching?

Guys in the X900F thread said that DV isn't working on Disney plus. So...not overblown.

Nah it is overblown. My comment was clear. I was referring to people complaining about dim HDR and DV. You're talking about Disney+ and whether DV works or not.
