$1,300 difference between this and the 85” 950G on Amazon and you get nearly an identical picture. Insane price!

Very good price from local B&M stores. I paid 3K for the 75" but that was May 2018. In March the TV will be 2 years since release. I am still very happy with mine even though some of the newer products offer a little more I would say the 900F is quality and still quite suitable for most people.

I agree..and if you don’t care about HDMI 2.1 for gaming then the 900F is perfect and an incredible value right now.

Comparison of the specs on rtings.com shows the X950G has eARC but the X900F does not.

The Samsung Q70 scores an 8.4. The Sony 900f scores a 8.3, the Sony 950 scores an 8.4. These 3 are comparable on Rtings site.

FWIW, I was at BB the other day and they had a Q70 and a 900F side by side, the 900F picture quality blew the Q70 away in my opinion. I’m not one to notice a big difference in picture quality of comparable TV’s but the different between these two was dramatic. So much so I made my mind up on the spot to buy the Sony once it went on sale.

I actually thought the 900F scored quite well. At the current price point, I’m not sure what you’d recommend as an alternative in the 85” space.

My question is will it get cheaper right before the Super Bowl? Does Sony have a history of dropping the price twice after Christmas and before the game?

Super Bowl is less than 3 weeks away, so I would doubt the price will go even lower. If you are worried about a price drop buy it at Crutchfield they have a 60 day price guarantee. I would think the chances of it going lower in the next 60 days is much better. That’s about when the new models will be in stores.

Sure, I get that there are other alternatives, I was referring to the comment on the 900F not performing well on “RTINGS”.

The Q70 (85”) and 900F are currently the same price. They’re both good sets. If I was a gamer, I’d definitely go with Samsung. If you must have Dolby Vision, I’d... and so on. They’re evenly matched imo.

I'm not convinced that the implementation of DV is wholly effective on the 900F, but there's no debating the Sony's far better out-of-the-box picture calibration.

What a smokin deal.

2800.00 for a 85" 900f that started out at 5400.00.

I started to think maybe I need a kitchen TV.

Bestbuy is a terrible place to do head to head comparisons, unless you are allowed to play IDENTICAL content and can adjust the picture settings for each for a fair comparison. RTINGS shows that these sets are very similar: https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/comp...&threshold=0.1

***I take RTINGS ratings worth a grain of salt - - as I do with many other so called "expert reviews." You really don't know if they are being compensated by manufacturers or whether their opinions are unduly influenced or not. Just another source to look at, IMHO.

Maybe we read a different rating on the Sony 900F? The only real negative that I saw was "off-angle" viewing and since I sit straight on to my TV, that's never been an issue for me. If you are that far "off-angle" on any TV, then you've got the wrong room or furniture setup.

Lastly - - I don't believe for one minute the the Samsung Q70 is a better television. RTINGS totally misses the processing capability of the Sony 900F (upscaling) in everyday viewing. And, for what it's worth, RTINGS "settings" for the TV are god awful. Absolute horsesh%$ and worthless. A blind man could have provided better recommendations.

Where is a good place to do head to head comparisons?

The sets were side by side playing the IDENTICAL content using the manufacturers out of the box settings.

My Best Buy usually won't let customers play the same content, nor will they let you adjust any of the picture settings. Seems like yours does

How do you know they were the out of the box settings ? Even if they were, it means nothing.

Just meant that one picture wasn’t calibrated and one was. Both were using factory settings.
