Bought HT1070, second thoughts, Upgrade on Black Friday?

Hi all,

This will be my first projector, I can fit a screen up to 120" ( not sure if I should go with 100, 110 or 120). Either way, my original plan was to get the ht2050a refurb from ebay with a coupon if possible. While I would love to have HDR and 4k I will wait 2 or 3 more years for the tech to mature more and the prices to come down a bit. By that time I should be able to buy something nice. I was browsing the benq outlet when I saw the HT1070 for a bargain price. I bought one but it won't arrive here till mid-December or more due to low inventory.

Say I could get the ht2050a with a discount or something similarly good on black Friday. Would the upgrade be worth it? To spend say more on a projector. Keep in mind this is my first projector.

My original options like I said where the Ht2050a refurb or pay up for an Epson 2150.

I can only wall mount the projector.

Thanks

For your first projector that is probably perfect....I have the 2050 old model and its been outstanding, shockingly good for a new projector owner.

Having said that...…..the 2550 is a smokin deal right now at less than 1K at various places......yeah, its a few hundred bucks more that a 2050, but ……….for a first PJ, it would be pretty good..... word is benq will be doing steep discounts for black Friday on the 2550.

That's going to be hard to beat for a first budget projector...…….mine has been flawless, well a new bulb at 9000 hours, but that's expected and well beyond its rating...pushing 10K hours now without a single issue, so yes, I like benQ……

120 inch screen all the way, bigger is better for these !!!!!

My recommendation is a sub 1000 buck 2550 with a spandex AT screen so you can place the speakers behind the screen......

For 202 bucks, cheaper than the lamp in it costs by the way, get a 120 inch spandex screen and rock on !!!!!!!

I would not even think of returning it at that price !!!!!

Spend the cash saved on a large sub or some seat shakers or dark paint or velvet for the room and have fun !!!!!

I think I spent like 100 bucks building my spandex screen, was super easy and having the center behind the screen makes huge difference...……...that's a smokin deal on the 1070, as long as you can darken the room, which makes a difference even in a 10,000 dollar projector.

I just paid 250 for a new bulb for mine !

I'm also looking to buy my first projector for dedicated home theater. Any idea when will the discount be announced by Benq?

$200 for a 1070?

keep it. that's a great projector and at that price you won't touch it with anything else.

Your next significant step up would be something like that HT8050 for $1300 refurb right now.

Thanks. well, $202 plus tax and shipping to PR, so $250 in the end. Hopefully, it should serve me well for the next 2 years. by then 4k prices should have come down a bit and could get something real for $1500+

Having had all 3 of those materials...….I would go spandex.....unless 3D movies are the main use as it seems to be slightly less performance in 3D, not a lot, but slightly.

So unless the entire reason for this projector is 3D, then spandex screen.

That's a heck of a deal -- free projector for the price of the lamp, basically. Looks like it's sold out, however. Just as I was thinking about getting a spare lamp soon for my HT1070. Oh well.
