FWIW:

A local Kansas City avsforum member recently bought a refurbished/discontinued BenQ HT9050 for $2400 from BenQ.com directly. The projector arrived damaged, the guy called BenQ, and they apologized and sent him a replacement. The replacement arrived damaged, the guy called back and BenQ offered to send him a new HT9060 as a replacement. No struggle. No back and forth. Just a quick and easy resolution offered to make up for a bad situation.

That HT9060 he received was brand new, the current model, and $9K MSRP.
https://www.benqdirect.com/ht9060.html

BenQ made it absolutely right for the guy.

A company can claim good customer service all day long on their promotional materials, website, and state good intent via customer support agents, but BenQ's example, from one of our local members, Htrdln, is an extraordinary example of a company actually displaying truly great customer service.

Maybe I would feel different if I had the same issues some of you guys had but I doubt it. I paid less for this with a free bulb than I did for my viewsonic PX747-4K which I got a great deal on. These projectors are in different leagues.

Anyone that doesn't enjoy tinkering with setups and possibly messing around or anyone with limited free time should certainly use caution.

OMG. How is it 900ish? It was close to $1250 for me with tax. Is there a coupon that i missed. And does the mail in rebate for free bulb work for refurbished units as well?

There was a 15% off coupon that some members got to use. It's expired. I didn't get to use it, but that's fine, I didn't know about it when I bought mine and the price was already good.

The bulb offer isn't supposed to apply to refurbs. I called and was told that directly, but people still put in for it, and it went through. I think you have to put in for it within 30 days of purchase. (long gone for me since I bought my original in early April).

Post 30 and 36 are why it shouldn't qualify.

Archae I bought mine around April as well and I was at about 45 days before I heard people getting the rebate. I called and they said just put it in we always let them go through. And needless to say it's in process and going through currently. It's definitely worth a shot. Can't hurt to try. I did it old school by mail you can do it online as well I believe. Make sure you grab the rebate form for your direct date. If you can't find it let me know I may have the pdf somewhere.

Yea i love in New Hampshire no tax for me and I used the 15 percent off coupon when I purchased.

Thank you so much! I have been trying for weeks and finally got one. Distill was like 5 minutes late notifying me, but your message gave me enough time.

I get that a lot of people are upset about the lack of QC, but there’s just nothing close to this for the price right now. I’m not saying it’s ok, but if Epson makes it right in the end, I would be happy.

I really wanted the 18Gb from the 5050, but other than that the 5040 meets all my needs for much less money. Hopefully I’ll get lucky and get a good one right away *fingers crossed*.

Just snagged one as well! (happy dance) Tip for Canadians: Change the "com" to "ca" in the link, and you'll get Canadian pricing, etc. Found out you can't use a Canadian billing address on the US site, but this worked out better anyways, $20 cheaper than straight conversion, and free shipping to my door! (no going over the border to pick up.)

Darned if I could navigate to it from the epson.ca site.

I could not resist, I was looking at BenQ who has some refurbs but this is so cheap, but I am mentally prepared to have issues and send back if needed.

And they didn't last even 12-14 hours all out of stock, I am sure its not all AVS people stalking it. I know they have had a lot of problems but when they are working it is touch to beat their value.

There was one that ended at the end of May as well. They seem to keep doing the rebate.

They must have gotten a bunch of them. Hope they've been inspected thoroughly.

Where are you checking how many they have left in stock?

That many scares me it means hundreds and hundreds have come back for repair. I am sure the power supply issues is fixed, the color specs and blobs everyone is getting is my main concern.

I bought one yesterday around 5pm, thought it didn't go through as I haven't received the shipping confirmation yet. But knowing that it's restocked quite a bit today makes me feel easier.

It's still up right now, still 34 in stock!

I don't think there are any real quality issues coming out of their factory, but their repair/tech center is clearly garbage.

Basically if you buy a new one, you're fine, but then as soon as you start playing refurb roulette, you're going to have issues if you can't convince them to do a brand new replacement.

Yep, this is it, chief.

Another example, though outside projectors, is EVGA. They make graphics cards for PCs. If you have an issue within warranty on a card that is no longer available, you will often get the new equivalent, i.e. 1070 replaces 970. So this means you're actually getting an upgrade to what you have.

That should be the standard.

Not sure why you state "it means hundreds and hundreds have come back for repair" as if it were a fact. There are a couple of reason why I can think of that there would be so many available, but my first thought is clearing stock as it is an older model..

Ordered and paid yesterday at about 5pm. This morning woke up to a canceled order email from Epson. I assumed it was because they were sold out, but when I called they said the transaction was denied due to address verification. I called my card company, they said the address was 100% correct and that the transaction went through and wasn't denied for any reason, and thus my card was charged.

I've called epson 3-4 times now and I can't really get any help from them getting this remedied. They keep insisting part of my information is wrong, but I've called my card and verified twice that the charge went through. The only offer from epson is I can try and use a different card, but then I'd have the money tied up twice so I'm hesitant to do that.

Anyways, curious if anyone else got a canceled order for any reason from yesterday? They definitely confirmed they had over 20 in stock when I was on the phone this morning. I'm just hoping they're not sold out again by the time I get the card situation figured out.
