Additional $25 off at Costco

You can use one of the $25 off $250 Costco online coupons on the Samsung player. Since the original price is $299, their web site accepts the coupon code without problem.

I believe it's on printed flyers available in-store only. Each flyer has a different "one use" code.

Some have noted that calling Costco customer service and complaining your code doesn't work will get them to give you one over the phone, but I haven't done it personally.

Cool Secured!

As I was walking out of the Dale Mabrey Tampa, FL Best Buy I thought about the fact that I paid 500 for my first CD player in '85, 500 for my first DVD player, 600 for my first HD-DVD (720p at that) player, & then 200 for this Samsung UHD player. They also had 200 49" Toshiba TV's. They times, they change fast (apologies to Mr. Dylan)

Official Samsung UBD-K8500 4K HDR Ultra HD Blu-Ray Player Owner's Thread

Did the retail price drop on the k8500 now or is this just a special sale price for a limited time? I was thinking of getting one for a family member to go with their new tv and also a few movies but I was not planning to buy until after the new year since they are in the process of a move that is on hold for the holidays. I was curious if I should get it now when the price is lower.

LG 65" B7A OLED, Samsung 55" JS9000, Sony 43" x800e, Denon AVR-X2200w 5.1.2, PS4 Pro, Nintendo Switch, Gaming PC(GTX 1080ti + 4.7Ghz 8700k), Sony UBP-x800, Philips BDP-7501, Oppo BDP-203, Nvidia Shield TV

Costco sale ends on the 28th, not sure about Best Buy or Sam's Club. I would just get it now and see what happens price wise after the BF sales to make sure you get the lower price.

That's what I did also because Best Buy is allowing me until like the end of feb for returns.

So trying to make up my mind before the costco deal runs out tonight, just need a little help. If I am not worried about Atmos, is there a reason to get this over and xbox one s for about the same price? I use xbox and wouldnt mind having a second one for another tv, but if the quality is going to be better with this samsung then thats what I am really concerned with.

Buy now (from costco) and think later..
If you decide to use XBox, you can simply return Samsung anytime..

If your receiver can't do 4k then the Samsung still works by routing the signal through HDMI 1 and the audio to the receiver through HDMI 2 (Audio)

Xbox S only has one HDMI out so if you want it through a receiver you need a 4k receiver

That would be a second reason and why I have the Samsung player

Well all the Samsung 8500 prices have gone back up to $270 now.

Want to get one for Christmas. Hopefully there'll be a sale in time for Christmas

If there isn't one, I would just suck it up and get the Oppo 203. From all indications, it will be a much better unit anyway. Sometimes Oppo will have a pre-order sale price on their website once they're ready for you to put something in the cart.

If it's a pre-order sale then I might but if not... that's a lot of sucking up to get the oppo... 3 times as much

I don't know if it will be three times as much, but Oppo normally puts out one of the best all around universal decks (with support for a vast assortment of video files the other manufacturers have dropped). There are audiophile companies that will order Oppo's OEM versions of their various player models, slap a new face frame on them, add their own splash screen logo, and charge a massive markup (like ATI with amplifiers). They're the exact same units with no internal modifications!

Like many, I missed out on the recent super low prices on the K8500. Current average price around $280 or higher. I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on an Amazon-certified refurb at $215 delivered. Any thoughts or does anyone else see it priced lower anywhere currently?

Can't speak to this specific item, but in general I've had very good luck with Amazon-certified refurbs from their Warehouse page. The descriptions were always accurate, and you have return privileges, so not much of a risk. When you get it, just exercise all the functions to ensure everything works. A lot of the Amazon Warehouse items are just returns of stuff people bought mistakenly, although of course there must be the occasional lemon.

So what about 4096p-2160p in comparison with 3840p-2160p or which one is the real 4K. I couldn't buy a player that won't help in next year or won't give the real 4096p-2160p resolution.!!!!!
Any one help me please

4096 is the 'true' 4K resolution, but is pretty much exclusively for theatrical projection use.

3840 is UHD, and is used for streaming and for DVDs. It's easier to work with and scales better than 4096 because it's an exact multiple of the 1920x1080 spec.

Used for UHD Blu-ray, not DVDs, just to be technically correct.

4096 is exclusively for theatrical presentations and is close to a 1.85:1 ratio. 3840 is the consumer version because it uses the broadcast TV ratio of 1.78:1. There are only a few pixel lines of difference due to each respective native screen ratio.

If we're going to be technically correct, there's no difference in number of lines between the two, both being 2160 lines.

What there is, is a difference in the number of columns of pixels, 256 more at 4096, specifically.
