Is this screen paint worth a buy?

Hey guys,

I got a benq w1070 a while ago, projecting it on a plain white wall, but I have been wanting to purchase a projector screen for it, but the prices here in dubai are outrageous due to shipping from the US (there also seems to be no local shops that have good screens like EliteScreens, Daper, etc) but only the cheap knockoff chinese screens.

Anyway I came across this new projector screen paint from the UK, it has very few reviews, is pretty recent, so im a bit sceptical, although my choices are limited. The only affordable paint here with the shipping cost ($22) appears to be this one. Anyway, ill link the ebay page, the website, and the youtube page showcasing the product.

Obviously, I would appreciate your expert opinion, wether or not it is worth buying the product.

Also, I need to specify that my room is light controlled with blackout curtains, however, the top/side walls have not been painted black, they are white, and in the video showcase they obviously have black walls to control the light, and it prevent washing out the picture , so their results must be better. I cannot paint my walls in black as I live in a flat, will I still get decent results with this paint?

I used Goo Systems 14 years ago and it has worked wonderfully. Easy to install and looks great, 120" screen for $180 at the time. I did have a guy come in and put a plaster layer over the drywall to ensure it was perfectly level because any imperfections in the drywall will be amplified. Home theater #2 will be underway in about 8 months when we move into a new house and I will be revisiting them if I decide against a perforated screen.

There is an entire forum that is a sub forum of this one and it is all about DIY screens and a good deal of them are painted. There are simple solutions that you can go to any paint store and for the price of wall paint get, to slightly more expensive paint you can mix up from easy to source paint products.

I have used a painted stealth wall screen for close to 20 years thru about 4 different projectors. My first screens were brush painted and the last was rolled. Some of the fancier more advanced ALR mixes require spraying.

The mix you show IMO is fine but greatly overpriced for what it is. The same is true IMO for the Goo products.

Ask for a simple one can solution in the DIY screen forum. Tell them your projector and image size and an idea of what your room is like in terms of lighting and colors and you will get lots of help.
