When I scan the Sony 95 thread there's all sorts of comments about just how bad the ghosting was with the Sony 90 -- never heard it was this bad (except from Conan48) until the new model came out. The same goes for all the other 3D projectors from last year. Only you and Conan48 seemed to tell it like it was, but you were voices in the wilderness so it was hard to know just how much value to put on your observations. No question now! You or Conan48 buy a new projector and I'll pay close attention to what you guys say about it.
When next year's (2013) models come out I suspect that's when we'll get the real truth about this year's models. Call me cynical or what?
You and I are very similar it sounds like
I just know that any amount of ghosting is going to bother me to some degree after seeing DLP in action with 3d. Even if it is much improved, or "almost completely ghost free", it still wont be on par with DLP in this area, especially with the more challenging 3d material (games, certain blu ray 3d discs, etc.....).
The problem with ghosting is it is very subjective as far as what is minor and what is major. I have watched certain 3d flicks with the GF/friends that I would describe as a significant and distracting issue as far as the ghosts, but she/they hardly think anything of it. Because of this (among other things) it is very hard to put much weight into any opinion/set of eyes but my own as far as this goes. So, while someone might report the Panny, JVC or Sony is nearly ghost free, I might have a different interpretation seeing the same thing.
The other issue is that from my experience with both my ST130 and HP 2.8 screen, the brighter screen definitely makes crosstalk much more obvious it seems. This is definitely part of the reason for the wide range of opinion on the ghosting with all these non DLPs (not to mention other variables).
There are other factors as well such as the "honeymoon period", bias, etc.....that make me take ALL these reports with a grain of salt to some degree.
Also, as much as I respect the opinion of some of those that have reported on the new Panny, new Sony models, the new JVCs, etc.....I can only get so excited until I see it for myself because I am one picky SOB when it comes to certain artifacts of which ghosting is one of them. My eyes just seem to naturally go to it no matter if I am looking for it or not now
DLP is the only tech I am going to be totally happy with as far as crosstalk/3d is concerned (at least this year).
Having said all that, I just sold my RS40 last week and have a RS45 coming so look for my brutally honest reports on the 3d as I spend time with the projector. My main motivation for the 45 is 2d and lens memory which is why I went this route (I LOVE the JVCs for 2d since I mainly watch movies) and 3d is more of a bonus at this stage since I am honestly not expecting a significant improvement over the 40 all things considered (same panels, no FI for 3d, etc....). Hope I am wrong, but we will see.
Depending on the price of this 7000 and depending on how the 45 does, I would love to add this BenQ to my setup just for 3d! I have a feeling it is going to be a bit more than I want to spend right now though for a dedicated 3d machine, but we will see.
