If anyone is having Chad B come over to calibrate their Front Projector with HDR please let me know.

I would love to be a fly on the wall and watch and learn.

Chad did my RS600 back in May and I'm pretty pleased. I've used it with an Oppo 203 and Chromecast Ultra. To be honest, it's quite hit or miss at this point but when you find something reference, it is truly spectacular.

Too bad we have an 8 month old so I haven't been able to watch it nearly as much as I would have liked to have.

He was over for about 6 hours on Saturday, but I haven't had a lot of time with the projector since then. I watched Baby Driver and part of the Packer game (ugh).

The biggest take away was the MASSIVE improvement in SDR. It is really stunning how much better it got. HDR, according to him was already pretty good out of the box. I didn't really have anything to compare it to. I thought it looked great when I first turned it on, but what do I know? lol. So, I definitely noticed an improvement after calibration, it just wasn't as stark of a difference as SDR.

Glad you are enjoying it! It does throw a very nice image in both SDR and HDR actually. Also happy to hear Chad did a great job with your SDR content!

So the conversion to UHD-Blu Ray is finally done for my theater.

Watched Alien Covenant and it was very good in both picture and sound. The Atmos sound track was considerably better than the non Atmos track on the blu-ray. This I found to be very interesting to be honest.

Also as a huge weight off my shoulders.... I have found some settings that work well with HDR. (Likely x40 series only though)

Unfortunately for me.... if no other projector company offers the same level of controls to tweak the gamma like the JVC, I might be locked to JVC projectors for the foreseeable future.

Very cool!
I look forward to hearing about your impressions.

I really like my 7.1 setup, but if I was building a new HT I would do things differently including pre-routing for a 9.2.4 style setup, even if wouldn't be used.
Many other changes of course including better rack management and likely speakers behind screen.

I am mainly buying 4K UHD's now.
Lumagen FW updates keep improving things.
I still haven't done a professional video calibration, but even without that looking good.

The latest OPPO 203 firmware with SDR/REC 2020 output is very good.

Tried it on my RS540 and a fellow Wisconsin area HT Members JVC RS400 projector.

Tried the same on my RS600. It actually had a very similar image to my ChadB calibrated HDR modes and using the linker. Will need to watch more content, but I think that will be the best solution for nearly all projectors!

Hello my fellow brew city brothers (and sisters!),
Hey SOWK,
What is your current opinion on the marantz vp-15s1? I know its dated but I'm a dlp fan and heard raving things about it. i currently have a infects x10 and value sharpness over just about anything else?. Would the marantz be an upgrade? Thanks!

As for the Marantz VP-15S1, it is still a top of the line 1080p DLP.

But... you would probably not want to go above 110” screen with its light output capabilities.

You would also want to make sure that RBE with a 5X color wheel is not an issue for you.

Check to make sure the projector was stored in an appropriate environment as well.
