Thank you for service menu remote keystrokes.

I can now see that the unit has very low total hours (only 4221) so it may be newer than the original owner stated.

Option 1 - not applicable (all cables same effect)
Option 2 - Firmware update (I am calling Sony in the morning)
Option 3 - I have a request into Mendtronix for an estimate of repair

There is an option 4 - Sell it on eBay with FULL disclosure to others who may be better able to fix or may be fine with it the way it is (e.g. sports bar that doesn't care how good the picture quality is).

Although there is still possible 3) Processor symbols (a separate small Board). In any case, you need a Diagnosis. The maximum that you can do at home is to reflash,BUT the firmware is nowhere to be found. The vicious circle turns out, unfortunately.

Could someone post a picture of a still shot of a football game where the camera is panned out, like when everyone is lined up before the snap?

It seems that my projector has a problem as the picture is not clear at all during those shots, but up close the picture is very clear. I have no idea why there's such a big difference in clarity, but I want to know if it's just my projector or if all HW50ES's look that way. Maybe it's my screen causing the issue.

My projector is mounted about 15' from the screen in a light controlled room.

Below are some pictures from my seat. The first 3 seem a little fuzzy to me, but the closeups seem more clear.

***Edited*** I accidentally indicated I had a HW55ES.

Unrelated but your mount isn't level in your Ebay ad. You shouldn't have to do that with a projector like the 50ES that has ample lens shift. Avoid using keystone correction...it degrades picture quality.

I hear ya. As this is a bonus room as well as a HT I have a ceiling-hugging ceiling fan between the projector and the screen so a bit of tilt is required with the pole that came with the mount. I will likely buy a longer pole. I still need to replace the non-AT fabric in the powered retractable screen and then mount it as well before I decide what length pole would work best for the HW45ES that will eventually be going in it's place.

And no offense but I saw your ad in the classifieds here and I think you could be a bit more upfront about the condition of the projector. This thread could move very quickly and the information about the defects could be lost.

Personally I think you should work something out with the individual you purchased it from. I struggle to understand how it's worth even your low asking price if it doesn't work properly.

The details were documented on the external site. The classified listed here has been removed eliminating any confusion.

There are already multiple bids and numerous others watching so it will sell. Makes me wonder if I might be missing an easy fix.

Final disposition of my HW50ES

I just wanted to follow back up with this thread to let anyone who may have an interested understand the results.

I sold the projector... TWICE.
I provided a COMPLETE and DETAILED description of the issues with the projector and three bidders ran the final price to $1,025. The buyer took about a week to pay for it (that right there should have shed light on the future). Turns out he won the bid but had to wait until payday to pay for it. This pissed me off as I had two other bidders that DID read the description so this guy's "winning" bid appears to have likely cost me about $400 (see below)

Upon reciept, he claimed it was "defective" and insisted upon a refund. His english was very poor and he either didn't read or perhaps did not understand the description. Although I had advertised it correctly, described the condition VERY CLEARLY and stated NO RETURNS in compliance with the site's policies, I had no protection.

I contacted a Customer Service agent of the online company but despite following their listing guidelines to a T, they forced me to refund this joker's money. It was essentially his word vs. mine even though I CLEARLY & articulately outlined everthing in the listing. The rep agreed with me that I was getting the raw end of the deal but the ONLY protection I could get would be if I had listed it in their "FOR PARTS, NOT WORKING" category.

Although it was BS, I decided that I had enough & re-listed it with the same description in the new category. I ended up selling the "working, with issues" projector for PARTS for $650 + actual shipping to a guy who buys a lot of projector and camera components. I just shipped it out today.

I expect that he will change the HDMI board for a song & relist it back out on the market doubling his investment. I am more than happy to give him the ability to make that profit for his experience.

This projector has GOT to be cursed!

It turned out the he was a she. This was a sale through an online site and I followed their policies to the letter and used their designated shipper for delivery. Apparently that sites link to UPS does not select "signature REQUIRED" for sales under $750 so it was shipped to the buyer and the buyer was provided with UPS tracking details from day one. UPS tracked the item and confirmed that it was "DELIVERED" per their system.

Although she had the tracking details and was aware the designated delivery day, she did not contact UPS for an alternate shipment date nor for any alternate delivery (such as pick up from the distribution center). I learned all these details after-the-fact when...

A couple of days later the buyer attempted to claim that the item was "stolen from her doorstep" (along with two other packages) on the designated delivery day & she was therefore requesting a refund claiming she "never received the package". We went through the dispute process with the online site finding in my favor that I had done everything in accordance with the posted rules and while it was unfortunate that the item(s) had been stolen from her doorstep that I would not be held liable for her mis-judgement in failing to secure receipt of the package.

The reason I am posting all this is because due to this case, the item has been identified as STOLEN and I don't want anyone here to get burned buying it from any online site. The serial number of the unit is/was...1100830 BEWARE if you see anyone offering to sell a VPL-HW50ES at a price that seems to good to be true because... it probably IS!

Thanks for responding. This morning, I also tried mini USB (USB A to C) and it did not work for me. With the same mini USB A to C cable, I plugged to a pair of Panansonic 3D glasses and it fit just right. Can anyone confirm if the connector is Sony proprietary?

If it fits, the mini c, but does not charge... Check with another mini c or it could be the lithium battery in the glasses has lived its life.

I did use a standard charger and or a USB port on a computer. It is a mini c.. Almost positive.

The mini USB A to C did not fit the Sony. I tried several mini USB cables just to be sure. It fit the Panasonic 3D glasses.

Also I just shipped the projector and glasses to a buyer so I can't re-try. I told the buyer I'd take care of the missing cable but not sure how to now.

Not sure if you have your glasses handy to try and hopefully tell me I am crazy?

trying my luck with sony a1e after what feels like being in jail when I look at 2 lg c7's I've had. Jailbars you can see in movies and games isn't acceptable for this kind of money. LG calls it "normal" maybe sony won't with same panel.

It was eBay but I think they are both owned by the same holding company so maybe it runs deep in the culture. I had sold a lot of stuff there over the years and only had problems with this particular sale. I haven't bought or sold anything there since.

The cables to charge the glasses are weird. I can't use regular microUSB cables to charge them. I only seem to be able to use the ones that came with the glasses.

Bummer, I had already ordered Monoprice USB A to micro USB cable PID 9761 . Can you confirm that your cables are also micro USB ?

I don't see the link to your classified ad. Can you PM it to me?

It's the same cable I use to charge my Motorola S10-HD headset as well as my NOKIA Lumina 635 and a few other devices. I think it's called a USB-C as it is smaller than the USB-A

Epson 5040ub Projector, Elite Screens 120" Saker AUHD, Yamaha RX-A3060, B&W Speakers: Signature 7's, FMP4, CWM7.5s, CCM65s, Rythmik 15" CI Sub, 30' Monoprice Cabernet Ultra CL2, Tiara CI-Pro Series In-wall wiring, Phillips BDP7501 UHD BD Player, Niles 1230 WHA Amp, Xbox, WiiU, TiVo Premiere

I googled "nokia lumia 635 usb cable" and it appears to be micro A to micro USB B (not mini USB or USB C).

For the micro USB cables that did not come with your Sony glasses, where were they from and what do you use them for today?

I am now wondering if there are tier levels of quality for micro USB or if there is something unique to the Sony USB cables?

I just used the original micro USB cables when I found them. The whole situation was annoying to me since all my regular cables wouldn't bloody work!
