I googled around and see a million prices ranging from $100-$300+, and they all SWEAR they're OEM Oshio bulbs etc, but I know that with those price discrepancies they can't all be OEM bulbs. I've thought about upgrading, but my RS-46 puts out such a fantastic 1080p image that I can't justify another $2K-$3K on my budget so I figure getting a replacement lamp will have to do. Does anyone know of a good REPUTABLE source of actual OEM lamp assembly replacements? I'd prefer a good OEM replacement that will last another 1800 (ish) hours vs. some cheap ass one that will explode or die after 600

(also, is there a difference between the RS-46 and the RS-46U? or has it always been the RS-46U as the official designation of the 46 series and I'm just going crazy?)
You're ideally looking for the original JVC manufacturer lamp from an authorised seller of JVC, that will be by far the most expensive. After that you're looking for original OEM lamp in compatible housing. That should be the same bare lamp that JVC use but in an aftermarket housing. You will need to search for feedback to be sure your choice there is reputable. There is also a very cheap option that doesn't use the exact same lamp, but I wouldn't touch that.

Look on Amazon for some examples and read feedback there. I think Diamond Lamps come well recommended, but will not be the cheapest.

Morning - wondering if anyone else has had IP control issues magically appear out of the blue.

I have my RS46 running in an iRule setup and have had it operate without issue for years. Then about three months ago iRule stopped being able to make a connection to the unit. All of the rest of my iRule setup is working fine. I've tried resetting/changing the static IP address to the RS46 and nothing seems to unlock whatever is preventing the connection.

I recently changed the bulb, but I'd swear this change happened well after that happened.

appreciate any insight. (I've posted this in the iRule thread too where one person suggested I try switch to DHCP and then back, as it had worked for them - but it did not for me)

With all the new 4K content available - specifically The Mandalorian - I'm wondering if my fellow RS46 owners have or are also investigating upgrading.
Anyone general consensus on best options?

4k downscaled on the rs46 (with my sony x800) looks good enough for me to wait for prices to drop even futher on 4k native projectors. But if i had the money now, i would go for at least a jvc n5 i guess..

this is an interesting conversation: I'm using an Oppo203 with a HDMI converter back to my receiver so I can still pass Atmos/DTS-HD, but I can clearly tell a difference (improvement) with the 4KUHD disc vs the basic blue-ray. Not sure if what my adaptor is doing what your x800 is doing, but it does make me wonder if I'd see the same small improvements doing the same with a 4K AppleTV or updating to the highest resolution version of Netflix... Maybe none of this is equal, but I agree my sense is waiting for a drop in price in a native 4K projector vs going with the very popular Epson 6050 (which does P3 color!, but is a pixel shifter).

Interesting.....So you see a better picture using a 4K player and UHD disk than you do with a 1080p Blu-Ray? I wonder why that is? Should I try and pick up a UHD player this black Friday? I have a few UHD/Blu-Ray combo disks but since I have a 1080p projector, I never upgraded to a UHD player.

Please report back on your findings with the ATV4K as well.

well, I think I do... I'm 100% willing to admit 'placebo effect' is in play here - but I swear when I play my Blu-ray Fury Road and then play the 4KUHD version I'm seeing slight improvements - along with the fact I'm now also getting Atmos in the latter.

this was all born out of my frustration of updating my system to have 5.2.4 Atmos, only to realize most blu-rays don't come with an Atmos audio track and you have to go w/ the UHD disc to get those. It also coincided with Oppo's announcement they were killing off their line of optical players so I snatched a 203. I use this 2.2-1.4 converter to get my RS46 to display the video while my 2060 Yamaha accesses the Atmos.

I need to get a ATV4K and see if I get similar sense of improvement on things like Prime 4K or Disney+ 4K...

It isn't a placebo. Even in camera capture, with the same sensor, a 4K capture down-scaled to 1080 looks better than naively captured in 1080 because of chroma subsampling. I assume playback would have the same benefits depending on how the chroma subsampling is handled (4K scaled down to 1080 has the ability to provide 1080 4:4:4).

So would it be as easy as replacing my current Blu-ray player with a UHD Blu Ray player? Currently I run HDMI from my Blu-Ray to my Receiver (Onkyo RZ830) and HDMI out from the Onkyo to the JVC. Would I need to do anything else? Does the JVC down-convert?

You down convert at the player....to send 1080p to the RS46.

The RS46 will not accept 4k AFAIK.

Therefor, no change in cables is needed.

Which 4k UHD players do you recommend?
Also is the Xbox one series worth considering?

The best player to buy is the Panasonic UB420, UB820 or UB9000. I recommend the UB420 because it is cheaper, the only advantage the UB820 has is Dolby Vision which projectors don’t do. The UB9000 has an extra function designed for the new JVC NX projectors, but it is very expensive. All three have a built in HDR Optimizer and also the ability to convert HDR to SDR2020 (it will also downconvert to SDR709). These features are essential for when you actually get a 4K projector. I upgraded from a RS46 to a RS400 in 2016 and the biggest change I saw is when I sold my Samsung K8500 bought a Panasonic UB820 in 2018. The difference it makes is significant and it is ill advised to buy anything else, especially if you are using a projector.

My UB820 has a mode called “HDCP1.4 Limit” which seems to indicate it would allow you to playback 4K on a 1080 projector (presumably in combination with the SDR709 Setting). I haven’t tried this. There are many reasons the UB820/420 are the best 4K players to buy, looks like this is another great reason why.

I'm hoping for a Panasonic UB-420 Sale on Black Friday and because I'd like to pick one up.

Another question (that may or may not have anything to do with the projector itself): I picked up a Harmony Ultimate with Hub for my theater and I can't get it to control any of the projector functions. Everything else works just fine. Any thoughts? I noticed in the manual you can change the remote itself to A or B, but I can't find a way to change anything like that on the Harmony remote or app. Any thoughts?

HELP!! I'm having problems with lens memory and zoom. While it worked yesterday, the lens memory isn't working on my projector. I can't manually zoom either. All other lens functions (shift, etc) seem to work fine. Any suggestions on what it could be or how to fix it? Any way to manually adjust, as where it is right now it isn't right for scope or 16:9 content.

Edit - I can hear something actuating when (with my ear up to the unit) I am pushing the adjust button but it's just not doing anything. It sounds like a small electric motor and it runs as long as I'm pushing the button and stops when I quit. I wonder what the mechanism looks like.

Edit - perhaps a stripped gear? I wonder how easy it would be to replace or even get a part? Has anyone taken one of these apart before? Is this something I might can do myself? If not, is it worth sending off to a repair center? I'm guessing a minimum easy repair might be $300 or so. I guess it probably is as I can't afford a replacement JVC and would have to go with something like a Epson 5040 or something with less contrast.

Thanks
