Short of going Obsidian, that is more of a black and LRV is 5 vs Rosco TV Paint 3, I might really consider the Sherwin Williams Peppercorn for the walls with a 10 LRV. My Front wall will be covered in Black as I'm doing the Linacoustics 1" x 2 set up. So the Peppercorn would be for sides and back wall.

I'm still worried about the TV Paint absorbing all the Blue Led Lighting from my Led Strip on the Crown Molding.

I painted the back half of my room with the Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black and it is a lot lighter than the Rosco Video paint TV Black but it does not scuff.

I am very happy with the Rosco Video Paint and did not add the acrylic since I plan to keep some on hand to do touch ups if it is ever needed. Honestly it is so dark that the only way scuffs are noticeable are if all the lights are on and you are looking for them.

You are welcome. The Rosco Video Paint TV Black has been tested by a few of us and confirmed that it is the darkest paint with the least amount of reflection. (Black 3.0 is darker but made more for artists and it is very pricey (about $400 per 5 liter / 1.3 gal).

What type of acrylic do you add to Rosco Video paint ? What is the purpose of doing this ?

The acrylic is from Rosco as well . The purpose is so the Rosco TV black scuffs a little less easily and when it does scuff you can wipe the scuffs off the wall. Without it people with children find the scuffing unbearable. @jorgebetancourt says it does not make the paint any more reflective as long as you don't use too much acrylic.

That looks great! So is that two coats that you put on? I currently have Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black for my ceiling and Peppercorn for my walls and am looking to make them darker and just wondering if one coat will do the trick. Thanks.

Wow, that is quite a bit darker. Thanks for the pic. Looks like the Rosco will definitely cut down on the reflections compared to what I have.

Thanks guys for all the help. I'm especially excited about getting my walls switched over from grey to black. I wasn't able to convince my wife the first time and my kids are older now so not so worried about smudge marks.

Is the Video Black really worth repainting a freshly painted ceiling and soffits that was done in Tricorn.? Based on picture above yes, but real life?

LRV(Light Reflection Value, the lower the better,) for Tricorn is 10. Rosco TV Black is 3. From people who have used both they say the difference is noticeable not just in terms of darker black but in reducing light reflection.

I'm in the same boat as you. Wife was not having black walls. We settled for TV Paint on Soffit, front wall and Ceilings and the Sherwin Williams Peppercorn Gray on the 2 side walls and back. The Peppercorn has a 10 LRV, i'm hoping it is not too bad on the reflections...

In real life it is noticeably darker. The picture I posted is close to what it actually looks like in my room. I painted one half the room (walls) with Tricorn and the other with Rosco Video paint tv black to test it and it is noticeable... and that was with my ceilings painted with Rosco super saturated.

Yes it is noticeable and darker.

From the photo you have posted it for sure looks way darker.

My question would be - how does it cut down on the reflections? I get that it will be darker but does it absorb the reflected light any better then the lighter paint?

I highly suggest the use of triple black velvet for anyone that has the time and money to do it.

I don’t think there has been one upgrade in my theatre that made more of an impact to my viewing then the velvet. There are no reflections and no distractions. Just the screen in a black pit!

I highly suggest the use of triple black velvet for anyone that has the time and money to do it.

I don’t think there has been one upgrade in my theatre that made more of an impact to my viewing then the velvet. There are no reflections and no distractions. Just the screen in a black pit!
It does reflect the least amount of light and is darker than all known paints (except for Black 3.0 which is artists paint and comes in small bottles... and is very expensive). There is an in-room difference when seated and watching video material.

It is not as dark as velvet and velvet still has a clear advantage. I am off today and I am taking photos in my theater with all lights out and only the screen lighting up the walls to show the difference.

My question would be - how does it cut down on the reflections? I get that it will be darker but does it absorb the reflected light any better then the lighter paint?

How far out did you do you're velvet and what did you make those panels from? I am still on the fence with possibly doing velvet for about 6 feet coming out from the screen. I might just do curtains for the sides but ceiling might be tricky for me since I have this beam and recessed lighting.
I could probably just shut down the lights and not use them. Does anybody know a good way to cover a beam like this or just simply wrap it with velvet?
Thanks
