Joann's has 60% off right now and it's 11.99 a yard at regular price. Cheapest on Amazon is 8.99/yd I believe.

Thanks for those pics. Anybody have pics of alternate fabrics on side walls? Maybe showing screen reflectivity?

If you pull normal velvet tight and staple it in place, you will not get any bubbles, it will stay perfectly flat and smooth. Adhesive tape will not hold velvet very taught.
Or you could wrap one layer of spandex and then wrap triple black velvet on top of it.

Can use furring strips and fold the ends over. Use a nail gun to secure.

Think the point with the spandex though is the stretch and no sag or wrinkles.

Not sure what velvet stuff fixed frames are covered with but I took a quick photo of my self adhesive stuff side my fixed frame screen.

I unfortunately bought the crushed finish instead of plain which based on looking what I’m seeing if I had bought the plain would look identical to the frame itself.

Btw the real black you see in the image is shadow not part of the frame.

I went to a Joanne's in Salinas, Ca. for the first time to see what they had in stock in velvet and spandex. They did have Royalty 3 black velvet in stock at a whopping $20/yard, didn't find any spandex.

They weren't allowing more than 20 in the store at once, and a line outside behind me developed. It was almost like the old Roach Motel commercial, they go in but don't come out!

Buy it online for store pickup. They have a memorial day coupon for 50 or 60% off.

Nobody pays full price there. Joanns, AC Moore and the like are like Joseph A Banks where regular prices are absurd, and you only buy there with the big coupons.

Thanks for mentioning this! I ordered a bolt just now for only $65 after the 60% off and the 10% off for a 10 yard minimum. The SY triple black arrives tomorrow, but I can get started on a few areas today.

Here's some updated photos from my Quarantine project. I've added acoustic treatments, commando cloth covered panels to the ceiling above the screen wall. I also have a second row platform. Now I just need to find some HT seating and install the second row in-walls speakers. That should cover the DIY version of the HT. Version 2 will be in a couple of years.

And.....I still have to patch the hole I created in the ceiling to run the speaker wire across the room Waiting to see if I need to cut a hole for the other speaker run as well....might as well patch two at the same time.

Thanks Dave.

I will say one thing. I hired someone to put down a black epoxy coating on the concrete. The bad part is it shows EVERYTHING. I was reminded of that because in the first pic you can see I wet mopped that portion of the floor. I need to find something that will do a good job of cleaning the black epoxy.

The panels on the back wall are from GIK Acoustics. They are their Alpha 6 panels with a two way dispersion plates on the front of the panel.

https://www.gikacoustics.com/product...usor-absorber/

Also In the same picture are their tri corner bass traps with internal range limiters. The GIK bass traps are on the left side.

https://www.gikacoustics.com/product...tics-tri-trap/

The two plain panels below the alphas and wall mounted near the door are bass traps from acoustimatic

I've added a picture where you a better see the tri-corner bass traps

If you'd like to make your own, here's an entire thread about building them. I made 6, and they are super easy.

I'm slowly but surely blacking out my room. The one thing I haven't done yet, is darkening the carpet. This is the current color, so how much of a difference would a black carpet make with my Epson 5050ub? It would probably cost me around $600 to change the carpet to black. Would I see a $600 difference?

Believe it or not a huge black shag pile rug will do the same thing without replacing the carpet.

What luminatrd said. Keep that rug there and just get a black area rug that goes full width. Check out wayfair, overstock and the like. Use coupons too.

Right now what it's done is make reflections off of my speakers stand out. Keep forgetting to cover them. That and the ceiling are the only things left in my room to deal with.

The difference you see by adding the carpet it is in proportion to how close your images to the floor the image is close to the floor you definitely are going to see a noticeable difference I can't tell you it'll be a $600 difference but it will be noticeable

Would I see a $600 difference?

Any black will make a huge impact.. But do it nice or you will end up upgrading a few years from now again.

DIY Custom-Printed Movie Poster Acoustic Panels - cheap!

Great thread.

I will say what those GIK panels do is not the same as 2-4 inches of linacoustic (insert your fav absorption material). The Alpha panels absorb lower freqeuncy range and scatter/diffuse the upper frequencies. The goal with these panels and placement are to create a wider cleaner rear soundstage.

One could "copy" the computer generated pattern and cut it from the baltic wood for the front plate and add the appropriate amount of absorption etc. I don't have that skill set.

Just painted the white ceiling black (94% light absorbing) and the white walls beige (60% absorbing). Huge improvement! Still have cream carpet (thank you wife). Almost $3k to replace with black at $5/sq foot. Instead i put a coffee table in the middle off the floor with a black throw blanket over it and it is also vast improvement, at least until i replace the carpet.

And to the person that asked about black gaffers tape. Dont do it. I put some on the perimeter of the window glass to reduce light escaping around blackout shades, as well as on some of the window woodwork. Worked. But 2 months later i decided to remove a strip to make sure wasnt doing damage. The fabric came up but left cement like glue residue that was very difficult to remove. Razor blades worked, everything else failed. Removed all the tape and learned my lesson. It is for short term use only.
