Very similar to what the Darby does...will need to find the ideal setting between 1 and 5...has anyone noticed any difference in black levels...I just notice the background of the
Menu is more grey now than the pitch black it used to be...escalated with Epson...anyone else notice?

This is obviously personal preference, but with the firmware update and the Darbee on my 6030, I found that with Super-resolution set to 3 and the Darbee set to 30% works the best. Previously I only used the Darbee and had that at 40% by itself.

I think there's less black crush. More detail in the black areas now.

cool..thanks for responding. I am debating on when I will do the firmware upgrade..i would like to see the stock resolution and get use to that before installing the newest firmware...will probably wait a few days....also, i noticed in the firmware update notes that you have to press the power button while plugging the power cord into the back of the projector...being that my projector will be ceiling mounted, this may be a pain.

Thanks for responding...a couple questions...what does less black crush mean and also is your menu background now grey or black? Thanks again...

Black crush is when the black areas in a movie lose their detail and definition. I really don't notice much difference in the menu. I rarely use it.

I have the same problem but I solved it this afternoon by ordering a new 3' power cable from Monoprice for less than $5 and then I can use it somewhere else after I do the update.

Big difference with the update. I'm happy at SR 3. Don't see much better at 4 or above. Details are amazing now. Watching Godzilla and wow! Maybe it's just mine but the update has quieted the fan noise. My fan, even on Eco, had a very low rumble. Not loud but annoying. Now super quiet. I'm finally happy with the 5030.

One other thing is the auto iris is much quieter. On normal I used to hear a grinding noise. It's gone. On fast there is a slight noise but once the volume is on it's not bad at all. Still not sure if the iris does much but at least it's quiet now.

yeah I was going to say its not the iris as I thought mine was a little quieter after the upgrade, I also have SR on 3 but I popped in pacific rim in the oppo and at 4 it still looked really good like I said its the best upgrade I have made to any display, very much darbee like and I think both could work well together so I might grab one at Christmas.

So is it safe to assume there was no improvement on the "fast" picture mode? I was really hoping they would address the picture degradation when running this mode......

Yeah I'm on the fence on the Darbee. Been thinking about the Oppo 103d for Xmas or just the Darblet but now not sure if it's needed. Does the Oppo help improve audio or pic by itself? I'm happy with my LG so if not may go Darblet route.

Is the menu different

I haven't updated yet, hopefully later today. I was wondering if the update changes the look of the menu in any way?

To be honest, you don't even need a game system to test the fast mode. The problem isn't with lag, it's with the quality of the picture dropping. Can someone test the fast mode on a movie or tv show and see if they notice a difference in picture quality?

Thanks

What exactly are these modes suppose to do? I'll test this evening. Thanks.

Fast mode is supposed to decrease the lag time in video games, which it totally does. The downside to enabling fast mode is the picture quality drops. It's alsmot as if the resolution is affected. I can't quite explain it, something you have to see for yourself. It degrades the quality so much in my opinion that it's not worth gaining the extra response time for video games. However, the fast mode can be enabled with any content. I would like to know if Epson has in anyway shape or form changed this feature or if it was left alone.

I went from 110 to 111 on my 5030 last night, upgrade was relatively easy, but I didn't notice a big improvement. So far I've only tested with FiOS though, and there are times with it that I find the quality to really be lagging. I need to check with some blu-ray today.

Can anyone point me to a good guide/tutorial/walkthrough for calibrating with HCFR? I've followed some in the past, but they were written quite a while back, and I know HCFR has had a lot of improvements made to it.

Definitely a Windows 8.1 issue, I called Epson on it, but they could not help. Oh well, I may have to borrow someone's Windows 7 Laptop to install... Did the same thing, copied the file into the folder, but shut down when the usb was unplugged.

I used a Windows 8.1 laptop to perform the update with no issues.

I know it refused to cooperate with my Win 8.1(64 bit) machine after multiple attempts, so perhaps it's something to do with specific Win 8.x USB drivers. At any rate, hopefully knowing about it will save some folks from beating their head against the wall ...

Thanks for the feedback.

I love ebay..Just got me a brand new in the box Chied RPA mount for 50 bucks. The one that comes with the 6030ub. Sad thing is the drop down extension I needed cost me 109 shipped.. Good thing I don't plan on upgrading this projector for at least 3 years. Any one know how long I have to add the extra year of coverage to the projector from Epson ? I didn't see anything about it in the paper work that came with the projector. Thanks

Yeah I am the same I don't know if it is needed now, watched xmen last night and sitting in my theatre seats about 4.8m SR 3 looked awesome but then I jumped in the bean bag at about 2.5m and 3 looked a bit harsh, overall it looked great.

Am I the only person who finds it fitting that on an HT forum someone misspelled 'seen' as 'scene'?
