My only issue with these is that the arms tend to pop out of the snaps... it may just be my fat head.

picture in picture question...whenever I turn on picture in picture, the sub-screen comes up blank. does the projector have to have a separate signal input for this? I searched the manual but it isn't clear how this is done. thanks.

Seems fairly clear in the manual?

Using Picture in Picture
You can use the Picture in Picture mode to view two image sources simultaneously.
Note: You can only display HDMI or WirelessHD video sources when Picture in Picture mode is active.

2. Press the P-in-P button on the remote control.
The second HDMI video source appears as a sub-screen in the corner of the image.

Please give me detailed enhancement

I am ( as usual ) slightly confused about the v111 firmware upgrade. I did it and it went without a hitch. My question is this: after reading peoples comments I am getting the impression that the super resolution setting is behaving the same until you slide it up to number 4, and then it has this " detail enhancement " feature. Is this correct, or is this detail enhancement functioning throughout the range of the super Rez settings? And I have looked at it and see subtle changes, but not drastic, until I get to 4 o5 and then it just seems sort of grainy looking.
Thanks

No, it's been improved throughout the scale with the upgrade. Most people seem happiest at 2 or 3, after that it can appear a bit drastic.

According to Epson the detail enhancement kicks in from 4. Up to 3 it is Super Resolution which have also benefited from the upgrade. I usually keep at 4 and I like the clean crisp image it provides for blu rays. For DVDS and other lower inputs I keep SR at zero and increase the sharpness. This seems to remove all artifacts. Hope this helps.

Moving up from 8350 ? ? ?

OK lots of comparisons between the Sony 40es etc... but is the 5030 worth the upgrade from a 8350 ? A lot better or just a subtle difference trying to decide which to upgrade my 7 yr old 42 in plasma or a new projector (3D) . Ive got a 100 in screen in a totally light controlled room if that helps at all . Can only afford one upgrade leaning towards the 5030 since its on sale again with an extra lamp too ! Just dont want buyers remorse .
Let me know your thoughts and thanks in Advance !

I just upgraded from an 8350 to a 5030UB last week, so I am qualified to say that, yes indeed, it's worth the upgrade. MUCH better contrast, more detailed and sharper. Overall, just a deeper, richer image. On very bright scenes, you may think there isn't much difference, and this is true to a point, but with the 5030UB there's just that much more "pop". There are similarities, to be sure, but the 5030 is just that much more vivid. In dark scenes, there is no comparison. Plus, the 3D on this thing is spectacular. Personally, I'm totally satisfied, and wouldn't hesitate to say that it's a worthwhile upgrade.

i am still in awe at the performance of this projector. The 3d is absolutely an immersive experience. I just wish more 3d content was available!

I agree. In the theaters I never liked 3D. But with Epson I have been enjoying the 3D experience.

Anyone know of any good Black Friday deals coming up for this projector? I am looking at probably getting the 6030UB but if this would have a black friday that makes more financial sense I would go this route then.

I was pleased I had resisted the temptation to change to the Sony 55es or even the 40 during the recent price reduction. I have a 6010 that will be 3 next month, just recently re lamped. I thought 4K would have dropped more this past Cedia, but no. Now with the 5030UB getting a little cheaper with a spare lamp....minus what I might could get for mine...."there practically giving em away".. You know the drill. Only problem is the 5030 is white... ceiling is white...have gotten used to the black....however quite a bit more for the 6030. Wife might notice white projector as well...usually try to keep all upgrades black. Less conversations that way.

White on white - maybe she won't even see it ...

Seriously, I thought the white color would be a bigger deal for me, but I've grown quite attached to it. For the difference in price, I thought I could always get some vinyl and wrap it if I found it bothersome - but I prefer it white now, has a sleek look to it. The important part that faces/reflects the screen is still black ...

The case on the two projectors is similar, perhaps you can swap the two. Then she'll never know.

So is the current deal going on the sale price plus a spare bulb? Or is there more that came out today? Also does anyone know how long this deal may be going on for? This may be the month I get approval from the boss to pull the trigger but I have to wait till around the 18th to pay cash!

Does anyone know when the 5030 will start shipping with the new firmware upgrade already installed? Oh, and how long will this new sale last?

I would say it will be at least 2-3 months before these start shipping with the new firmware if not longer. Every one is going to have to sale out of current stock and Epson is going to have to sale out of all there stock also.
