Just wanted to give a shout out to Mike Garrett w/ AVS. I ordered the Chief RPMA168 custom ceiling mount from him last week. I received it yesterday and it definitely made it easier to dial the 5030 in level/square with my screen compared to my RPAU (universal) ceiling mount.
It was worth the money spent. Thanks Mike, it was nice talking with you.

I can't say for myself, since I went from the 8350 to 5030UB(VERY nice upgrade), but a friend of mine went from the 8500UB to the 5020UB and he thought it was a nice upgrade, so I can't imagine your not being satisfied. One thing is for sure...if you're interested in the 3D aspect, it's stellar.

Thanks! I am beginning to have some of the color banding on the bottom of my 8700 but I have an extended warranty. I guess I'll take a look at the new one when I'm down there

blucollar, I specifically moved up from my 5 year old Panasonic AE3000 to the 5030 because I had to have 3D. And as stated by Kilgore it is stellar. I grin from ear to ear everytime I watch something in 3D.

Anyone got a view on this:

My Oppo BD player can output 4:4:4, 4:2:2 and RGB. I am feeding RGB into my Epson 5030. Does anyone know what the difference is, if any, between these, and if RGB is better or not than the others? Thanks.

You are welcome. If people would try this mount, they would never go back to an RPA.

They are excellent, IMO. You get two pairs, they are light, and a full charge (by USB) gives you 40 hours of use. They work exceptionally well.

Hey Guys,

I just got my 5030ub hooked up last night and I am very happy so far. I still need a screen and I haven't done the firmware upgrade yet or even began to play with the settings. Just had time to watch a a few things last night but so far so good. I'm going to bring down one of my cable boxes tonight and watch the Hawks game! Just an FYI to anyone that buy's this pj before dec 31st. When I bought my pj I also purchased a bunch of audio equipment and by the time I checked out my brain was a bit scrambled. I forgot about asking about the free bulb promotion. I didn't get any voucher or anything that said anything about the promotion. I called epson and they pointed me to the website to download the voucher. Just go to epson.com and search for 5030ub. There is a link to the pdf to print out and mail in to receive your free bulb. Thought I'd post this in case anyone wasn't sure of the process as I wasn't.

EDIT: Whoops looks like this has been discussed a few pages back. sorry!
Thanks,

Yeah I have an American Express and have thought about that but I don't know how reliable that is and if they find ways to not honor it, no experience with doing a claim like that. I'd hate to go past the 2 year warranty, have it break then them find a way to weasle out of it and me be stuck with a repair that costs more than the projector is worth. I looked a bit at their policy but it is a lot of legalese.

kbarnes I'm no expert, but if I recall correctly from the Oppo threads it is suggested to set the output at 4:4:4 . I have done this and used the AUTO setting. In the Auto setting if I push the INFO on the remote and go into the second level of the INFO page I always see 4:4:4 on Blu-ray disc. I would suggest you ask the Oppo experts in one of the Oppo threads.

I just picked up a 5030 to try out today... How did you get them to match the gift card? Didn't see Projector People or Visual Apex as a price match competitor. Going to shoot them an email now and hope it works!

EDIT: Just sent them a note since Projector People, Visual Apex and Amazon are all showing that $200 gift card.

Thanks for the heads up if it works. If not, I guess it goes back!

When I went to BB they looked Amazon up and honored the price and Gift Card . No hassle but as always YMMV .

Trust me, they will match it.
After their past behaviours where they acted like you were insane to saving several hundred dollars online and not paying sales tax on top of it, bankruptcy, moronic management practices, etc., they are struggling for any money they can get.

Based on many of those practices, I have only purchased a handful of things there in the past and will never go back, but I digress.

If you look around enough there are even better deals. I was able to purchase my 5030 last year from a Canadian dealer that was even $215 cheaper than the best VisualApex and AVS, etc. They even sent a prepaid return label in case I was not satisfied and returning does not require a photocopy of my driver's license or personal data.

Could you please PM me info and a link for this mount? I am helping my cousin with his media room and I've talked him into the 5030UB. I'd like to be able to recommend a great mount for this PJ - particularly something that is hassle-free when we go to install. Thanks in advance...

Tried to get BB to match the gift card that is popping up on most sites, and they won't. They consider it a price match of a promotion and say they won't do that, and even if they did they said their price match is suspended until the close of Cyber Monday. Most of these gift card offers expire 11:59pm PST on 12/1, so I guess I'll just hold onto it and be happy it may get a free bulb and its a lower price than a few weeks ago.

If any of those sites offer the card again (Epson seems to do this often) before my return window closes, might try again.

If you are on the fence, you may want to try it in person - worth a shot!

I updated my projector (asia unit) with the first Enhanced super resolution firmware v110 (released during the September). It makes a great difference, especially on 4 which makes things really pop.

Should I worry and update to the latest v111? What's the change from v110?

It was worth the money spent. Thanks Mike, it was nice talking with you.
Just wanted to say the mount is so worth the money. I had to use this mount as it was the only one that had an extension that was long enough to drop down through my drop ceiling. I wasn't to happy about spending a crap ton of money on a projector mount. Just the drop tube was 100 bucks shipped lol (needed 13 inches). But once I got the mount I was like WOW this thing is nice. Had been using a Monoprice universal mount for my Optoma HD25e that I upgraded from. So wish I had gotten one for my Optoma. Trying to level that thing with 3 mounting points was a nightmare. Once you get the mount and open up the box and get the parts in your hands you under stand that this is quality stuff and worth the money. Don't even try the universal, just the one switch release is so worth it. If you need to take it down to do a firmware update and swap a cable or something. Just flip one switch for the quick release and it's down. If I every upgrade again I will be ordering a Cheif mount to go with it.

I don't believe that Epson has ever released a change log of what is in their firmware updates. You can try asking their tech support directly - I found them quite pleasant to deal with when I had a couple of questions, but they may not be able to release that info.

If V111 is available in your market for your projector, personally I would do the upgrade to ensure I had the latest. I've heard no complaints, and obviously they determined that something was worthy of issuing another release ...

Ouch! Glad to hear you've been pleased with the mount, but isn't the drop tube just a piece of standard NPT threaded pipe? Or did I get some bad info somewhere?

Yes it is. Peerless and Chief seem to want a ludicrous price for the droptubes. You can buy the pipe anywhere, cut to size and have a thread cut for just a few bucks. A can of spray paint and it looks identical to the real thing. Brilliant mounts though.

I got my 5030 Weds, and had to update it. It took less than 5 min. Download a file to your mac or pc, connect via USB and enter service mode by plugging in the power cable and holding power down at the same time. It will mount the projector as a USB drive - copy the file over and it does the rest.
