I just took delivery of a 5030 last week and it only had v102 which surprised me, but like others said, easy to update the firmware. And thankfully the 5030 shows the firmware version on its regular menu, no goofy keystrokes on the remote you have to do to see firmware like the 5010/6010 required.

Only been 24 hours, but just curious if this is normal? TY in advance.

I upgraded from the Epson 8350 and the fan is significantly louder on the 5030. The 5030 was too loud in normal lamp modes with my surround sound at normal volume. I'm not willing to sacrifice PQ at this price point to run in Eco mode.

After a little reading earlier in this thread others reported that the fan speed increases when the PJ is in ceiling mode vs. front mode. So if you are ceiling mounted, when you are in a normal/dynamic lamp mode, go into the settings and change the output to front. The picture will invert and you will hear the fan speed/noise decrease.

So I changed from ceiling mounted to a high shelf mount and now I can live with the fan noise.

I guess this a design feature that assumes a ceiling mounted PJ will have more heat build up close to the ceiling than shelf mounted, so the fan speed is increased.

Just got my refurb 5030 from Visual Apex. It has the latest firmware installed of V110, actually I see that V111 is the latest so I will upgrade to that. I plan on calibrating it once I get about 50 hours on lamp. I am happy with brightness, sharpness, and black level. This should hold me over till we get affordable 4k projectors. I have previously had JVC's and while the black level isn't as good on the Epson the bright scenes have that pop I was missing with the JVC's so the Epson gives me a compromise I can live with better for my needs.

For Australian/European users, did they use the US site to update the firmware? I can only find the US version but don't want to do damage.

I.e. it's for 5030 models and not TW9200 PJs...

It looks to be readily available on the AU Epson site, on the 9200 download page.

Whoops, my bad. I was looking in the wrong section...

Question, my firmware from the U.S. site updated fine to V111. Would that be any different to the AU version? Should I put the firmware across again from the AU site just incase?

Just received a replacement 5020-R from Epson and promptly put it up for sale. I decided to eat some $ and ordered a 5030-R from Visual Apex. This whole process has been pretty frustrating so far. I didn't get the 5020 installed for about 5 weeks (new house) so by the time I found out it had panel alignment and focus issues it was too late to return to VA. At the same time they dropped the price from what I paid and started offering the 5030-R for slightly less than I paid. I asked about an exchange anyway but they simply pointed out their 30-day return and no price correction policies. Anyway, hopefully I'm satisfied with the 5030. Now I need to decide what to do about my tab-tensioned screen with waves in the lower corners

I had the 5030 up and running today for the 1st time. I am a very happy camper, as my kids love the 3D even during the day. I just tried the same 3D movie (iMAX deep sea), with Samsung SSG glasses ($20), wow, what a difference at night, in a completely dark room.

5030 is worth every penny! Now, I need to sell my Epson 8100...

Ahhhh crap I got my first dust blob on my 5030. Anyone else get one yet and/or has anyone opened the housing and tried cleaning the LCD panels themselves? Was hoping that issue was a thing of the past moving away from Panasonic but, dag nabbit, here I am...

Thanks everybody.

Compare the two files - if the name and/or size is different then yes, I would install the version supplied for your market.

motion settings

Hi guys-watching the Baltimore / Jacksonville game on my 6030, coming thru Comcast HDTV digital converter box (not full size box)-I have frame interpolation on low and de-interlacing off-I am seeing a lot of motion artifacts.
Tried shutting off de-interlacing and put motion detection on 2, seemed to "soften" picture and did not appear to make too much difference in artifacts.
Checked on my LED downstairs and don't see any artifacts to speak of. Also, checked Bengals/Browns game and it also has motion artifacts. What settings are you guys using for sports? I would really appreciate your input. I have it in the Living Room color mode.
Thanks

I just thought of something-I don't recall seeing this much artifact before I did the "super-res" firmware update-just wondering if this might have done something.

This is a trouble shooter problem because it could be a million things. Assuming my understanding of "artifact" is the same as yours there are things I would do to find the source of the problem. First is the easiest - change your output from native or 1080i to 720p which seems to handle sports "artifact" better. Change from hdmi to component, or vice versa depending on how you have it hooked up now. Lower super resolution to zero. Reduce contrast level. Take it out of Living Room mode - this is too hot. Etc., etc. - see what I'm saying? You have to go through it systemically and I'm sure you will eventually solve the problem.

I have DirecTv and have "native" on so my Oppo handles the de-interlacing. My frame interpolation is off - for everything. For sports I do go to Living Room mode for extra pop. Super Res is at 3 and I have no issues with sports and artifacts.

Has anybody had an HDMI handshaking issues with this projector?

I have a Denon AVR which switches HDMI from all of my sources to the Projector. I have a PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Mede8er media player, HTPC, Cablebox, Apple TV and a Wii U.

All devices work fine, except for the Mede8er. Sometimes it will either just not show video when I switch to the source, other times it will show fine but then drop the image and I cannot get the handshake to occur again without power cycling the projector.

Now, one could conclude that it's the Mede8er since this is the only device exhibiting this behavior, however I have a 2nd HDMI output that goes to a small TV in the adjacent room that sits above my treadmill. When the Epson PJ refuses the Mede8er I can go up to this TV and use it without issue. So in summary I have 8 sources, 1 AVR and 2 display devices. Everything works perfectly except for the Mede8er with the PJ, parts of the time. Other times I can use it without issue.

I have tried a new cable from the Mede8er to the AVR.

I am running the latest firmware update for both units. I am going to duplicate this post in the Mede8er thread, but didn't know if there is something out there that I'm just not considering.

I have seen similar issues with my handshaking as well. It happens on mine when I attempt to display any non-hd channel on my cable box. It never occurs when I switch sources to my blu ray. (i only have 2 sources)

I too have had occasions where the signal was lost when switching from source to source. Generally when switching from one source to the FiOS DVR it loses sync and I have to change my AVR input to get them to talk. It also happens sometimes when I switch the DVR to Video on Demand.

Yes, I experience the same thing. A bit annoying, but it doesn't happen all that often.

Folks,
Do u guys use Frame Interpolation even for 1080 24p content (blu ray movies)?
Or is this to be used for interlaces stuff (cable tv)?

I use FI on its lowest setting for movies, permanently. This smooths out a little movie pans but it doesn't seem to add any undesirable artefacts. If I go higher with FI I can see odd little things and eventually, on the highest setting, it looks like video and not film. But it works well - just as intended. It's just that I personally don't like the intention. This is movies only - if I used the PJ for sports I'd probably turn the FI setting up to max.

This is exactly what I do. On the lowest setting, it smooths pans that might otherwise show some juddering, and still preserves the look of film.

Yep - exactly that. Go higher, and it's not as good (for movies).

I had this same issue, I did 2 things to eliminate it:
1) switched from DISH to DirecTV so I could have my STB out put the signal in Native mode.
2)Ran the signal through a Opp 103D, and I have it to the upscaling (from 720P) or the de-interlacing (from 1080i) this solved the problem. Prior to this, watching sports was awful.

I was able to get the 5030UB up and running, but have yet to watch a full movie with my kids until later on. But wow, it's a great difference and experience. I don't think i will go back to 2D every again I don't have to spend $15 per 3D ticket outside anymore. I highly recommend 5030UB...it's just awesome. I can't believe the 3D projector is this affordable now. I will keep it for few years, until Epson comes out with a 4K 3D and reasonable pricing. Until then, we will enjoy every minute of what 5030UB can offer.

btw, I already spent $100+ buying these 3D blu ray movies. This should be enough for us to enjoy our white Christmas...
- Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole 3D
- Polar express
- How to train Dragon 2
- Avatar
- IMAX: Under the Sea 3D (Single-Disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray Combo)
- 3D Safari Africa [Blu-ray] (not very good, but it's dirty cheap @ $5)
- Jean-Michel Cousteau 3d Film Trilogy [Blu-ray]
- Guardians of Galaxy
- Brave

That's 8, not bad to start with

Thanks to those who provided feedbacks.

Happy 3D'ing....

Until then, we will enjoy every minute of what 5030UB can offer.

btw, I already spent $100+ buying these 3D blu ray movies. This should be enough for us to enjoy our white Christmas...
- Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole 3D
- Polar express
- How to train Dragon 2
- Avatar
- IMAX: Under the Sea 3D (Single-Disc Blu-ray 3D/Blu-ray Combo)
- 3D Safari Africa [Blu-ray] (not very good, but it's dirty cheap @ $5)
- Jean-Michel Cousteau 3d Film Trilogy [Blu-ray]
- Guardians of Galaxy
- Brave

That's 8, not bad to start with

Thanks to those who provided feedbacks.

Happy 3D'ing....
A great start on the 3D collection; and don't forget some adult titles - Avengers, Godzilla, Edge of Tomorrow, etc. etc.

The Lego Movie is a good one.

There are many, many others things that are worse to be addicted to than 3D. Enjoy the holiday movie spree.
