I don't see any indication they are copies, I have several lamps here some direct from JVC and the auction items as well. everything is identical under a magnifying glass

the bare USHIO lamps have been performing with no issues as well. It's about time some affordable lamps hit the market. Epson released $99 lamps for a number of models a while ago, these should have come down by now..

That's great. Were yours from the same ebay seller as well?

Where did you source the USHIO? And do you have the part no handy? In the old Sim2 days there was a lot of discussion on whether or not the bare bulbs were under spec even though they were the same part no. Never verified any of that for myself and I heard of a couple of users who said their bare bulbs were doing same as OEM, but some others who said they were way less bright. Changing the bulb itself would suit me fine if they are up to spec.

Cheers

2X on the GetGray questions. Where and how much is it to source a genuine bare lamp and how difficult is it to put in? Is there any reason NOT to just go bare lamp, any electronics in the housing?

I installed the new eBay lamp tonight to make sure it was good. My existing lamp had exactly 1800 hours on it. I was amazed at how much brighter the new lamp was. I guess I didn't really notice as the original lamp slowly dimmed.

Nice, I'm in the same boat and ended up grabbing one too that'll be here by Friday. Guess I'll throw that one in, watch a lot of movies on it quickly, then let Chad recalibrate on that one when he's here in a couple weeks.

The lamp was also nicely double boxed for shipping.

Interesting you should say that @claw . My Nov,2015 RS500 has only 860 hrs on the lamp.
I've kept track of my ftL output over the past 18months.
Since February I've had to open up the iris from -11 progressively to -6 to maintain 16ftL in low lamp for BR discs.
Unfortunately for 4k/HDR to achieve 28-30ftL ,over the same period I've had to go from LOW LAMP (open iris) to HIGH LAMP ( -4 ).
Not sure why, but it looks like I'll need replacement before I hit 1000hrs.

I’m actually still happy with my X7000, custom curves and auto curve switching via the Vertex. Only 690 hours up.

What is wrong with me?

I think my next project will be to get mad Vr dialed in on my HTPC. Is it fully baked yet?

I like the idea of the NX7 , but I don’t feel I need it yet.

Ditto.
My only concern appears to be premature ageing on my lamp.( Only have 860 hrs on it ) For 4k/HDR my LOW lamp( iris fully open) reading dropped for 85Nits to 50Nits in 6months , so I had to move to HIGH lamp (-4 ).
Rather than spend +$A10000 on a new PJ, I spent $A250 on a new lamp. Should last me another 3 years. LOL.

Just got done watching MIP Fallout and it had the best looking IMAX scenes I have seen. Once you see it, you may not think you need the NX7.

I have the same aging rate. Dropped from 75 new to 40 after 810 hours.

As I have seen many of the people in this thread are in my same situation (they have lamps with approximately 1000h of use) I have seen that many of these people have acquired new units outside the official circuit. How do they work? Do you notice any difference in the light output? Where can I buy? How much do they cost?

Thank you

Hi Dreamliner.. I sold my 520 to a friend and next month I want to run autocal which I've never done before and then eventually I want to do it to my 640... Hopefully this is all simple.. I see they have different versions of the spider 5 will this one work?

https://www.amazon.com/Datacolor-Spy...spyder+5&psc=1

Would we be using the same version of autocall for both projectors or is there a version for each projector.. We just want to do the gamma and we both javs custom curves dont know if it makes a difference or not.

Thank you

All versions of the Spyder 5 have identical hardware and any of them will work with the projector; the only difference is the software suite. I am not 100% certain if JVC has an updated version of Autocal or not for the RSx40 projectors. You can use the same Spyder 5 on both though.

Doing Gamma is pretty simple. My calibration guide should be solid but the RS5xx/RS6xx models have a color filter my RS400 does not and that adds a step somewhere. I'll add the instructions to my guide for it if anyone PM's me them but it should be fairly straightforward, the calibration software is pretty basic. I will be redoing a full calibration soon and updating my guide at that time.

The RSx20 and RSx40 use V9 and V10 software respectively.

There is an ebay seller (isoldit.ca0238) that we have purchased complete lamp units from over the past couple of years.

I get an email notification from ebay when my saved search for "pk-l2615u" gets a hit for a new listing. The search returns both complete lamp units and bare bulbs. Beware of the bulbs; not all are OEM. I received notification from ebay recently that this same seller had additional lamps for sale.

This was his listing that we jumped on when he lowered his price even further than shown. We probably bought all of the 10 units he had for sale.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/JVC-PK-L261...B/392168888823

The lamps arrived in the same sealed JVC box as shown in the listing photos. There is no telling when he might get more stock, maybe not for another year. Maybe never.

Just follow the onscreen instructions and look at the guide for reference.

Be CERTAIN you are ALWAYS on GAMMA NORMAL for all the calibration stuff. Also be sure to save the very first init file the software spits out as it is the default/factory loaded calibration. My guide says both these things but they are the most imlortant.

Got my new bulb in from the eBay seller mentioned here and everything was perfect. My first time with changing the bulb but it was easy. Now keeping in mind I probably didn't have a proper calibration from Chad until the 1000 hour mark on my last, seeing his work with a fresh bulb is mind-blowing to me. I want to be fresh bulb'd forever! Already got it up to 14 hours over the weekend with some movie marathoning, but gotta keep putting life on it so that it's a little more broken in when he makes it down here again for tweaking in a couple weeks.

Now torn if I just leave it in full time or only break it out for special occasions while still using my old one for everyday movie watching.

Well another successful Chad visit. Got me all up to date and looking even better. Still a new bulb with only 100 hours, but sitting at 76 Nits at the moment on high mode for HDR. Guess not too bad considering screen size.

Nice. That's not bad at all. If I remember correctly when Chad left my place he had me at about 60 nits for my 152" ST130 Stewart 2.35 AT screen.

Cheers,

Been awhile so can't remember for sure, but thinking a couple years ago I was only getting higher 60's after his calibration. So will be interesting to see how this one holds up once the bulb starts getting more hours on it.

Seems like I have perfect timing since many are also buying the lamp here. I need to replace the lamp on my RS500. I have around 2100 and now I have to run in High mode. The link provided on this/previous page is all sold out. A few questions:

1 - I see that the lamp itself without housing is much cheaper. Do we need to buy just the lamp or lamp with housing. Here is an example. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-Projector-Lamp-Blub-PK-L2615U-PK-L2615UG-for-JVC-DLA-RS400-etc/153146084652?hash=item23a837cd2c:g:vnkAAOSwjKJbdON 9:rk:7f:0
Lamp is sold for 200.00 but its without housing. I am assuming we already have housing so may be we just need the bulb?
2 - Here is anothe one with bulb+housing but is twice as expensive. Also says that it will last 3 times more (not that I believe it0

So considering we don't have any lamp going for 275ish anymore (based on link that was shared on this and previous page), where else can I purchase the lamp for RS500?

Woofta 200 is expensive for just the lamp. Got mine for $146. I would just put out a link but i'm guessing that is against the rules.

Pioneer SC-95, Axiom M80, VP180 Dual EP500 all V4. ISCO III, RS540 + Stewart Cima Neve 133

If you do end up getting with the housing, just keep an eye on their page or maybe even contact them as they've resisted more for sale several times now.
