hi, I posted a comparison to the JVC glasses in this thread below, they work perfect with the JVC emitter. I wear prescription glasses and they fit well over the glasses.

note- the charging cable is not standard, don't misplace it!

Hey just wondering if there is a step by step guide to JVC AutoCal for the X7900?

Looking to start reading up and finding the equipment I need.

I have also seen the Gamma Curves on here. So these curves replace the stock ones, then you do an AutoCal with these curves?

Thank you!

Given the new lower prices on the RS540, would the 540 be a worthwhile upgrade over the 500..?

Thanks

Possibly, if you don’t have a good custom hdr tone map and HDFury setup on the rs500.

Otherwise it’s probably a crapshoot based on unit to unit variance.

My current setup.

Yeah I've been down the rabbit hole with the 500.
Just sold my 620 and was going to move to the 2000 but the issues with
it worries me a bit.

So it's really about choosing between the RS540 and the RS2000?

To some degree yes.
But...I really like the very low black floor of the 5xx and 6xx line and I'm pretty sensitive to lack of black levels.

Should I just hang tight with the 500 or move to the 540..? Is it worth it?

hi, if you have a nice 500 (good focus, convergence, minimal bright corners) I would consider keeping it for a while. your room looks quite dark and light treated. I had the RS2000 for a while and could definitely see the black floor difference in my room (all velvet..). most people wouldn't likely see it but for me it's there.

I recently measured my RS600 @48K:1 wide open iris and 500K:1 with the DI. on the RS2000 it's ~220K:1 which doesn't close the iris as much as the previous series. Something I hope they consider updating in the future. Maybe add Auto iris '3' as an option for those that want it to dig deep in very low APL scenes.

are you using the UB820 for HDR discs with the SDR/BT2020 modes? There are some good options for streaming with the LLDV hack + Vertex 2. I primarily watch UHD discs and use MadVR DTM on an HTPC which looks remarkable. There is many years of life left in these projectors.

Go for the rs2000.. i doubt you will see a better picture going from a 500 to 540.. it's almost the same projector.

Now if you were to get a 640 super cheap then you could go that route as well

If you can get a 620 or 640 along with a HD Fury then you could get tone mapping and Dolby vision.. if u can get one these cheap then this might even be a better option than the new series..

I get custom tone mapping and Dolby vision with my rs500. I’m not likely to upgrade until it dies or the next three year generation is released.

I think I'm just going to sit tight for a while as well.
I'd like to have a true 4k PJ but just don't want to sacrifice the black levels for it. I'll give it a couple more years.

Thanks for all the responses. I really appreciate it.

Tonight I turned on my DLA-X990 and was greeted by NO picture and, on the front of the unit, solid reed lamps for standby/on and warning and a blinking orange lamp for lamp. I've attempted to navigate the warning display diagnostic information on page 79 of the owners manual but it escapes myt 70 year old brain and eyes. If anyone can interpret, I would greatly appreciate it.

If the Lamp blinking frequency is x1 then it indicates “Lamp does not light up and unit is unable to project”.

If by "x1" you mean about once per second, that appears to be the case. Does that mean that I only need to replace my <2,000 hour lamp? Thank you, as always Dominic, you are a treasure on this forum, my friend!

You can try removing the lamp and reinserting it to see if it makes any difference, but chances are the lamp needs replacing.

Thank you AGAIN! :-)

Can anyone please provide a link to an AVS dealer who can provide an OEM replacement?
