I'll be at the show as well. I offered to help with any setup needed for Mark Seaton's booth and also extended the same to Chris, though it sounds like both have top grade calibrators so I won't be needed. See you guys there!

At 800 hours I was still getting more than 60nits in HD with the iris at -13 in low lamp, and I'm getting around 130nits (down from 140) in low lamp iris fully open for HDR.

I used to get more than 215 nits in high lamp fully open and I was down to around 200nits at 800 hours.

I'm going to do an autocal at 1000 hours in the next few weeks, I'll remeasure then but I should be fairly close to that, I haven't seen any significant loss of brightness since I last measured.

The gamut shrunk a bit, but nothing major (and not bulb related)

Overall, very happy with the new bulbs, as long as you regularly run an autocal to deal with any color/gamma drift (I do it every 250 hours or so).
The lamp in my RS500 has been the most stable lamp out of all the JVC projectors I have had. At the moment my projector is in low lamp with 1800hrs and the iris is set to -13 @51 nits, for HDR iris -2 @ 135 nits. Stewart 1.3 Gain 100" Screen.

I used to live in Algonquin, I'd like to see your 130 wide screen sometime to see how it performs. Plus your using MadVR, I'd like a demo of that as well! Is that only for upscaling Blu-Ray or does it work on UHD Blu-Ray as well?

My favorite hot dog is the one I don't eat.
You're more than welcome to come over and checkout my theater! The first home theater I'd ever seen was setup in a condo in Schaumburg--projected on a wall. My first screen was 100" diag 4:3 and then a 106" diag 16:9 screen... both times they were in my townhouse/bachelor pad in Rolling Meadows. Now I'm at 141" diag or 130" wide scope. Best advice someone gave me-- go as big as your room will allow. I realize that the larger screen means less max nits for HDR specular highlights. I'm hoping in 5 or so years I have a good reason to upgrade PJs. That is to say a PJ with killer contrast / max lumens / HDR. Otherwise I really do enjoy the RS600-- even if it gives me mini-heart attacks from time to time.

MadVR works like a champ and I think gives UHD blu-rays a run for the money (despite, of course, the wide color gamut available in UHD). Otherwise, to my eyes, UHD provides a slightly sharper image than MadVr @ 4k. Pretty sure I can figure out a way to do an A-B comparison with MadVR on / off.

Also, I only use MadVR to scale 1080p blu-ray rips to 4k. For UHD, I exclusively use the Oppo 203 player.

Aaaaaaand a week from today,... ChadB will be here!!! woot wooooooo!!!

Then you haven't experienced it w/ HDR because it makes all the difference in the world w/ these custom gammas IMO!

FWIW - I watched a bit of Fury Road last night for like the tenth time but the first time since adding the Linker and all I gotta say is Holy Moly Batman... WOW was that excellent PQ!

Mad Max Fury Road - Black & Chrome edition in wide color gammut?

The gammas that Manni created are very nice. I really like the HDR effect. Don't like the added fan noise & heat though but, that's the only negative right now.

@krichter1 I don't think I've rewatched Mad Max in HDR since adding the linker, but I can imagine it does wonders... especially with the night-scene in the desert. Hope you've got something lined up to showoff the 3D capability of your PJ

Also, you know you're from Chicago when you refer to distance in units of time measurement e.g. "25 minutes from Rosemont"

It looked awesome (in color... no Chrome edition... can't justify a 4th version)! I'll put on few minutes to show you guys the difference.

I think I'll have enough for you to choose from (my Wall(s)-O-Movies... and these are older pics and it's even BIGGer now!)

Why not ? You could put all 4 versions next to the 4 versions of The Fifth Element ( once it comes out on 4K Blu-ray ) to show the world that us home theater nuts are CRAZY !

ALSO cannot wait to have the PJ professionally centered. I've got it pretty close, but think it could be better. More than this though... Once he leaves, my theater room is finally DONE ... and I'm not touching a thing in there for a LONG time.

Though the first thing I'm gonna do is upgrade to fiber HDMI once celerity or mono makes one that is upgradeable to HDMI 2.1
I am in the same boat, my current screen is a Falcon Horizon and is 120" wide 2:35. In talking to Chad, it sounds like he has some updated curves that will play nice with low lamp mode. He is heading to my place next month to see if he can get the curves to work. I am also going to be replacing my Falcon with a Seymour.

So your going with a lower gain screen, Jeff? Nothing from Severtson worked for you?

[QUOTE=Tom Bley;52371417]So your going with a lower gain screen, Jeff? Nothing from Severtson worked

After doing several comparisons, I liked the Seymour XD material over the Severtson SAT 4K material. To my eyes, it did a better job.

The XD material proved to be a higher gain screen than I already have, so I am excited for the improvement in brightness.

Is the Falcon Horizon the base material, I can't remember? I thought the accucal testing showed a gain of 1 for the Falcon base material and .94 for the XD. Interesting that you found it brighter. Did you get a larger sized sample from Chris. I'll see his new screen material called NEO this weekend.

It is obsolete and was folded into wip several weeks ago. I just merged the wip branch into master and created a new release though. At the moment wip, master and release v0.0.2 are all the same.

If you want to download a specific release you can find it here:

What is this Neo screen fabric?
Is it an AT screen and any higher gain than Centre Stage XD?

If its Neo:S its not really a new fabric, its been out a long time:

http://www.screenexcellence.com/technology.html

I have a smaple of it, and its not really that much different to Enlightor 4K, just slightly finer weave and a little whiter, compared to the creamy colour of EN4K.

EDIT: I can't see Seymour marketing the Neo:S as a high gain AT material, so they must have a completely different material that they are releasing.

Oh, I see its only .95 gain, another low gain AT screen.
I hope for the day we might see some AT screens with a gain of 1.3 or so...

Like I say, I can't see Seymour marketing Neo:S as a 'new' or 'high gain' AT material, so the new material they are releasing must be a completely different one.

I really want to get some samples of the Severtson Stellar White, in 1.4, 1.8, and 2.2... But I've got some other projects looking to start that are probably going to take all that money

The way I read Chris's comment (found it here) led me to believe that it's woven and supposed to be high-er gain than the EN4K, but not a high gain screen. Certainly sounds like the Neo S sample you have.
Tom Bley and krichter1 like this.

From my understanding, it is Neo:S being brought to the US. It is higher gain than EN4K, not higher gain than XD. It is a much finer weave than XD and will provide a much sharper image than XD. Just like EN4K provides a sharper image than XD, but the trade off is gain. I doubt the actual gain of Neo:S is 0.95.

picture alignment RS-500

Would someone be so kind to post the exact steps to get the picture perfectly straight. No matter what I do zoom, shift, roll, physically adjust projector I just can't seem to get it there. I've searched this thread and there are a few posts but nothing detailed. I can get the top of the picture perfectly aligned but then the bottom isn't. The bottom left winds up being on the frame a little bit and as you make your way across the screen to the bottom right the image ends above the frame. Appreciate the help.

That's really disappointing to find out...

Is it a hardware thing? Or something software related that be fixed via firmware?

If your image is slightly larger on one side than the other, you usually need to pivot/twist the projector slightly (sometimes only a fraction of an inch), and then centralise it again with the image shift. If its lower on one side you may need to raise the height of the PJ (using the foot) on that side of the image such that there is the same amount of difference at the top and the bottom of the image, before performing the twist/pivot.

There is also always the chance that your screen isn't perfectly vertical, or perfectly perpendicular to the centre line of the PJ.
