I'm using a Roku Premiere + to send over all 4K source material (mostly Amazon 4K HDR shows like Sneaky Pete). The Roku says I'm successfully linked at all levels and I am seeing everything come through successfully. I've done the firmware upgrade and imported the bt2020 color gamut settings. However, when I watch the Amazon source material and go to the rs400 information screen it shows the 4K and HDR but Deep Color always says 8 bit when I'm expecting it to say 10 bit. I know the HDR is separate from WCG but I'm expecting them to come together. Is it likely that the source is still standard color range or is there a limit with my cable bandwidth that the Roku is detecting or am I just looking at it all wrong? Any insight or recommendations are welcome. I'm still suspect on the HDR handling with this projector but I really want the WCG if I can get it.

Thanks
did you try setting your source device to 12 bit? this helped me on my nvidia shield, only in 12 bit mode it detects HDR - YES with netflix etc

Initial setting help.... What does the RS call the process that adds DayTimeTV effect so i can get rid of it, and any other initial setting help.

What other processes are there, and their catchy names :0)

******CMD is the first thing to disable, just found it! Why is CMD used ?

Picture looks great on the Wht over Blk spandex milliskin. Its thick when you double up like that, but the sound really passes through quite well for my liking....

I cant believe how quiet it is, as of now its about 6' from my head ! Man does it throw out some heat too! Im on Low level lamp.

I did do a cable test and determined that the Monoprice Cabernet cable isn't supporting the bandwidth. When I used a short (3ft) certified cable (also Monoprice) everything switches to support the higher bitrate automatically. I've ordered longer replacement cables (Monoprice certified) and we'll see if that solves the issue. Ironically, the certified cable is significantly cheaper than the Cabernet "active" one which claimed to support 18gbps. I guess I didn't do enough homework the first time.

I just picked up a used Celerity DFO35p powered HDMI, i've only run 1080p so far, hope to get a 4K Roku soon and test out 4K. Mine only lists 16Gb as bandwidth, it mite be their first run before UHD....

I decided to take some readings with my Calibrated Omnimic with the lamp set to High/Low and MPC set to Off/On:

Noise floor in my dedicated, sealed 3000cf theater room with copious amounts of sound treatments: dBa: 28.8 dBc: 36.8

Omnimic placed 12" from the front right exhaust vent:
Low Lamp & MPC: OFF
dBA: 31.6
dBc: 39.1

High Lamp & MPC: OFF
dBA: 38.1
dBC: 44.2

Omnimic placed 12" from the front left exhaust vent:
Low Lamp & MPC: OFF
dBa: 32.2
dBc: 39.8

High Lamp & MPC: OFF
dBa: 38.1
dBc: 43.9

Staying here on the left vent and with e-shift (MPC) set to ON:
Low Lamp & MPC: ON
dBa: 32.5
dBc: 39.8

High Lamp & MPC: ON
dBa:37.8
dBc: 43.6

In my situtation, MPC adds no additional SPL and the FR response stayed the same - around the 100 to 200HZ range with a short spike at 120Hz when I first turned on MPC only to fall back into the noise floor after 5 seconds. I have no high pitched whine while using MPC...

SPL drops 6dB per doubling of distance...I sit 5' away from the vents and therefore don't hear the projector at all even in high lamp.

Has anyone paired the Sony X800 HD Blu-ray player with a RS400? How do you like it and have you compared it to any other 4K players like the Panasonic UB900 or Oppo 203?

I had a strange thing happen last night while watching a movie...the screen went dark as the audio continued on from the movie. A quick look back at my PJ and I see that it is off while all three indicator lights are on, Standby/On, Lamp & Warning. Standby/On is solid red, Lamp is flashing orange and Warning is flashing red...the flashing lights are flashing 3 times and then repeating. Great! - the PJ is only 4 months old

Page 75 of the manual says "abnormal circuit operation"...while the cooling fans were operating, I checked this thread as well as the thread for the 500/600 and found a couple of posts. I followed the advice of the lone post on this thread and did a "reset" of the PJ by disconnecting the power, pressing the Standby/ON button on the PJ once and then let the PJ sit overnight. Today I went ahead and pressed the Standby/On button again and then connected the power cord and hoped for the best. Thankfully, it turned on and all is right with the world!

While researching this issue, the next step would have been re-seating the lamp or trying a new lamp per JVC service. It doesn't look like this happens very much in either thread so I am hopeful this is a one off...

I hope this helps someone...

Anyone try to program a URC remote to control this projector ? I own an MX980 and URC's remote databases (I've dowloaded their latest database updates) do not have any codes for this projector. I've tried to use the codes they had for previous models of JVC projectors but none of those worked. I can put the MX980 into "learn" mode and teach it commands directly from the JVC remote but I would rather just do it the URC program. Ironically, in the Rs400 user's manual, JVC provides a table of the remote codes, but only in Hex. (roll eyes). It would be a big help if there was sort of conversion from Hex to whatever is at the core of RF or IR codes, but I have no idea if that's possible. I posted this same question in the remote forums.
TIA

Oh, and by the way, I'm really impressed with the picture quality this projector puts out on my 115" screen, just using the OOTB settings (no calibration). I watched "Passengers" the other day from my Oppo 103, upconverting to 4K. As Yoda might say, "Gobsmacked I am"

storman,
Try PROJECTOR.701 . I have an RS-500 and MX990, and that worked fine for me (device dialog attached).

Beyond the IR database, I did have to add some discrete Hex codes by hand: User 3, 4, and 5, Anamorphic Off and A, and "User Cycle"
I also created a tiny macro to get to User 6, by selecting User 5 and then User Cycle'ing twice.
The Universal Browser can be used to import hex codes.

Hope that helped!

Official JVC DLA-RS400 (X550/X5000) Owner's Thread

Bear with me as I'm learning my RS400, trying to read this thread before posting, there's lots of info /pages.

Onscreen firmware says U83.2.

Website shows v83.2.4
(U vs V, that's confusing )
Theres a small upgrade I'm behind on?
I have a Mac Laptop, it runs Parallels 12 for Win10 stuff when needed, but I do not have a USB to RS232 converter cable .
Is this a needed update I must do?

Yes, I haven't done it yet because it fixes a specific problem that doesn't apply to my set-up...IIRC, it has something to do with a loss of audio while connected to an AVR. In my case, I don't have the proper cable to do the FW upgrade and will sit this one out...

Buy the RS232 adapter that JVC confirms works with the JVC projector:

Requirements:
 Windows PC with .NET Framework 4.0 or higher installed
*Tested with Windows 7 (32/64-bit), Windows 8.1 (32/64-bit) & Windows 10
(32/64-bit)
 RS-232C null-modem (cross) cable
 USB-to-RS232C adapter (required only for PCs without a built-in RS-232C serial
port). A quality adapter is required that is capable of both positive and negative
voltage levels. Some less expensive adapters may only provide positive voltage
levels.
*Tested with Tripp Lite Keyspan (model#: USA-19HS) & Staples USB-Serial
Adapter (Item: 837560)

I have my pj and I was originally going to build a home for it but decided on hanging it. After searching Chief seemed to come up so I had loaded a cart at Amazon, but figured I should ask someone who knows exactly what I need. I contacted Mike, he said call, I left town and came home to a bunch of packages. my wife apparently ordered something and everything in the cart came with it.

I got the RPMA 281, interface and a 9"-12" adjustable pole, ceiling mount. I believe the mount is right but not sure if the pole is correct.
Im using a 120" screen 1.1, 8 ft ceiling and would like to keep it about 6" off. Im not sure what distance I should be at for that size for throw. I can put it wherever it needs to go.

What drop tube you need depends on the vertical distance from the ceiling to the top of the image. You would like to mount the lens near the top of the image. With 9" to 12" adjustable, the image can start at 15" to 18" below the ceiling and still have the lens at top of image. That would place the bottom of the image 22 to 19" above the floor. That is pretty low for a 120" screen. You can always mount the screen higher. It is perfectly fine to have the projector lower than top of image. That means even less lens shift. Though the projector is going to be down near head knocking height. Should be around 6'-5" to 6'-2" of clearance under the projector, when using 9" to 12" adjustable.

Wasn't sure? Look at last page on the right(menu) if it says 3840x it's upscaled to 4k.
In MPC you can select it.

I've added BT2020 file & put my PJ in high lamp mode to get it too look a little better. What are some other options i can try to get a better 4K image ?

What are your other settings? Gamma D? Have you put in the JVC recommendations for Picture Tone, Dark Level, Bright Level?

Most are quite unsatisfied with the picture quality for HDR using Gamma D.

Or are you using an HDFury Integral, in order to get SDR-BT2020?

Have you seen any of the posts here and on the 500/600 thread about Custom Curves, or tried to implement that approach?

So, depending on where you are, we can suggest what you can do to improve things.
