It looked wonderful playing "Passengers" in 4K HDR and it sailed through the darkness of "Underworld-Blood Wars" in 4K upscaled Bluray.

It's still early in the game for me on this projector, but I'm happy so far.
That's the thing, even with OLED and its blacks, the experience is not the same compared to a good projector. Nothing makes up for a big screen size.

It probably is pretty accurate, but keep in mind, he has lights on in the room, right above the screen. That is why the blacks look washed out.

still in the process of setting things up in my new theatre.
have given the x5000 a few hours and i am having issues where sometimes it will flash up a black screen.
sometimes the black screen stays up and i have to power cycle the oppo.
i suspect it's the HDMI cable (monoprice Cabernet Ultra CL2 30ft)

Set up is
Nvidia Shield or xBox One, HDMI connected to
Oppo udp203, HDMI picture out straight to X5000 via monoprice 30ft HDMI, HDMI audio out to
Denon X4000

So far it has happened on everything i have tested, xbox game, uhd netflix through nvidia shield, gaming through nvidia shield, uhd disc through oppo.
What i have not tried yet is to bypass the oppo and connect the xbox or shield directly to the projector. will try that tonight.

Kind of frustrating when spending, what i consider, a lot of money and can't get it to work properly.
Any advise muchly appreciated.

Hoping it's just cause i am a newb and have some settings wrong somewhere.

I've been in your shoes. I had to end up going with Celerity fiber optic HDMI cable. Had installers pull 39 ft of AudioQuest Pearl they put in a year ago which as I found can only assure full spec HDMI up to 25ft. Since they've run the new Celerity fiber optic HDMI cable, I've had zero issues with black screen or the snowflakes I was getting on HDR content. It is pricey cable but is supposed to be easily upgradeable for the future by just needing to change out the HDMI connectors that attach at the end. Ordered mine from Crutchfield.

Once you go above 25', Celerity Fiber optic is what I recommend to my customers.

Yes it does.

Check out this thread https://www.avsforum.com/forum/168-hd...hdmi-2-0b.html

There are other options than Celerity that have proven more reliable, I myself had a Celrity 40' which worked great.........for about a month and then gave up the ghost.

i just watched The Mummy uhd from oppo 203 via my Cabernet Ultra cable without the screen flashing black.
i set resolution to "Source Direct" which was [email protected], HDR, color space was 4:4:4 and depth 12 bit.

Put it on just to test but ended up sitting right through it. love the desert scenes on the big screen. not the best pq but the scale of things impresses me.
i remember seeing this movie at the cinemas, only seats left were first row. that experience has stayed with me since then and have been hoping to replicate it some day. I think i'm as close as i will get now

I feel the same way at times with some movies projected at home. It's a very cool feeling and experience.

I got my X5000 yesterday, and 4K with HDR looks good
But I'm having lip sync issues
There is a lip sync setting in my Panasonic UB700 player
Problem is, the problem disappears and then occurs again at some point
So changing the setting in the player won't solve it

I strongly advice RUIPRO Fiber Optic HDMI cable. 100 Feet (30 meters) working without any single drop or failure in my system for 4K-60Hz-4:4:4 , 18 gbps transmission.

Not a very cheap solution but still cheaper than Celerity. I guess 50 feet version will be enough for many users. They have 6,15,30,50 meters options.

Having enjoyed the non-4k elements of my x550, I decided to upgrade my receiver and blu-ray players to 4k. I purchased the Sony UBP-X800, and Denon X1300W.

After Audyssey configuration I popped in disc 1 of the Planet Earth II UHD and waited.. an initial jittery hiccup of the menu music but OK, probably just a little lag with my JVC DLA-RS400U. But no image ever showed... just a blank screen. After disconnecting the HDMI out the audio hiccups disappeared.

I then removed the disc to check the menu to my Sony UBP-X800 but still no image. I even bypassed the Denon AVR same issues.

My old Samsung import blu-ray player shows up fine.

So, on a whim I played the UHD disc again, changed the input on my JVC to HDMI-2, and EDID set to B and BOOM, an image. Audio is fine but image is only so-so. Definitely not blowing me away. EDID must be on B to show ANY image, UHD, bluray, or just menu.

My 25-foot cable has never had issues. I am totally stumped. Has anyone had issues with compatibility of the Sony and JVC DLA series? My JVC firmware is not the latest.

1) Resolve Connectivity Issues (4K is EXTREMELY finicky and 4K handshake sync does take a LONG time with these projectors, replace all your HDMI cables with these.)
2) Follow The JVC Gamma D instructions here.
3) Do an enormous amount of research to learn about the custom gamma curves that have been discovered on this site. Thread, DIY, TOOL.

1 & 2 will get you 90% of the way there. 3 will take an abundance of time but the links I provided literally cut the time in half. The DIY and TOOL links I've provided will get you 90% benefit of custom gamma in less than one hour. I suggest making more than one curve and choose the ones that look best to you for each 4K title you play (will probably end up with somewhere around a -15, -10 and -5 curve), make sure the Custom curve slot in the projector menu is set to 'IMPORT' and know the projector will flip back to Gamma D any time it re-handshakes so you have to keep checking it. You'll understand what these things mean once you start researching 3.

Finally, when doing 3 if you do the black level adjustment, most will suggest buying the R.Masciola 4K test patterns but you can also put in any Sony 4K title and type 7669 on the menu screen with your player remote to pull up a hidden test pattern video. Near the end is a black level pattern and you can pause it and dial in to .005.

**Alternately to the custom gamma in step 3, you can load Manni's premade custom gamma curves using Import/Export from the Projector Calibration Software using the same JVC import procedure but selecting 'gamma' from the pull-down menu on the import/export screen. Try as many as you'd like but I started with 140-1100-4000 V2.

Good Luck!

Thanks mate. Rest assured, one of my next purchases will be a meter to dial in my levels. While I have read that HDR is dark without some tweaking Mode A is pitch black, and B looks worse than Blu-ray.

What I don't understand is why the Sony menu doesn't display (regardless of the disc format/signal output) unless I switch to HDMI-2 "B". During UHD playback the "B" signal is 1080p according to the JVC menu, and my current cable has never had an issue with a 1080p signal, 3D or otherwise.

Mike, the brand is Navepoint. Here is the link.

Sony and Denon firmware is up to date. I guess I can go through the stone-age headache of buying the cables/adapter/Windows software required to update the JVC firmware from my Macbook (assuming Wine can't tackle it). I'll situate the Sony near the DLA and try a shorter cable (going from player to AVR) and see if that changes anything.

Thanks guys.

It's the cable. Replace any cable carrying 4K (or all of them to save future hassle). Buy what I recommended in step 1 and watch your signal problem disappear.

The long answer is that your player and new receiver both detect your projector is 4K capable and are trying to send 4K signals. Even though my previous cables were 'rated for 4K' they could not handle the HDCP 2.2 signal and had to be replaced which is why I went straight to telling you to buy new cables.

Your equipment is writing checks your cables can't cash!
