I say this as an owner of an anamorphic lens. It's obviously not the same one you have, but it's a good one (ISCO). I do not use it with the RS4500.
I had the exact same opinion for years - but this particular vertical compression lens has far less glass for one thing. I have been, and will continue to look very closely at detail, graphics in movies etc. I'll report more ( and shoot screen shots later this week ). It's hard to ignore the added 2,073,600 pixels of resolution and added brightness ( 2,626,560 more pixels with the full 4096 x 2160 resolution with the Lumagen ). 4K HDR in particular was surprising - brighter and just as sharp.

4 out of 4 people this afternoon in my theater thought the RS4500 looked better with the Paladin DCR lens in place, with various 4K Blu-rays.

I ask this question in the Oppo owners thread, but am posting it here as well..

21:9 Crop mode and Projector
I run a "scope" aspect screen with my JVC Z1/RS4500. I presently use 2 lens memories, one for Scope and the second for 16:9 aspect.

Question.. when projecting using the Scope memory on the projector , if i select on the Oppo the "21:9 Cropped" feature to display the 16:9 image on my scope screen...am i losing resolution versus using second lens memory on the PJ to display 16:9 content?

Thanks.

If I remember correctly, 21:9 is an additional potential aspect ratio that future 4k/UHD content may be authored in. I think selecting this would significantly crop the tops and bottoms of your scope screen...unless I completely misunderstood, or unless the 21:9 crop feature is a workaround of some sort (haven't been in this thread in some time).
