Just sold my old JVC DLA-X35 and now shopping for new projector. I have completely black room, with Screen Research 2.40:1 230cm x 90cm screen. Hard to choose from Sony VPL-VW550, JVC X7000 or Epson LS10500.

I have seen the new VPL-VW550 and it looked brilliant. Very sharp and detailed image. Motion was smooth compared to X7000.
I haven`t seen Epson, so just wondering if it would be better value for the money?

Thanks!

I had the opportunity to see the 550 today and i think it looked stunning! The unit was calibrated and i watched a mix of different sources, BD, UHD and upscaled SD. As always with Sony, you get that natural looking and calm image with lots of depth which i really like. It looked very similar to the 520 (665) i have seen earlier but it`s hard to say how much they differ when i didn`t get to see them in a side by side comparison.

Strongly considering a purchase in the near term when Sony have filled the backorders for Europe. As it looks now, i can propably get one in the middle of december at the earliest..

No projector at present. My last one was the VW1100 which i really liked because of the fine lens and thus very sharp and clear image. But because i want to take advantage of the new UHD blu-ray format with WCG & HDR, i decided to sell it and i`m now looking for a replacement. I can get the 665 roughly 20% cheaper than the 675 so i'm still thinking if it's worth the extra money for the 675.

I would buy the 675 over the 665 at this point if I were in your position. The value difference for resale alone in a year would make up the difference IMHO. I currently own the JVC RS600, X950/X9000 and have been trying to sell this in order to pickup the 675 myself.

I like the 4K picture of the Sony but the extra cost and minimal difference is holding me back . Well, actually, the fact I did not get an offer on the JVC RS600 didn't help either. I was offering it at 70% the price of the new with less than 100 hours and could not get any offers better than 50% , go figure. Sold my 3 year old Sony VW600 in a couple of weeks more than the offers I was getting on the brand new RS600 . I'm on the fence now about making a switch, the longer I keep the JVC the more I am apt to keep it . I do have an interesting offer on the table to trade up to the 675 but not sure if it's worth the jump. I expect some interesting projectors to show up in a year to replace the JVC RS500/600 and also to replace the Sony VW675 and VW1100 , I'm trying to wait that long at least, September 2017 for the announcements minimum .

Have to admire your patience, not having a projector would drive me insane at this point. I don't have a fiber OP TV package anymore ,so all I have is the theater and streaming, this time of the year I use the theater plenty .

Hello...

Currently I'm using a Meridian MF10 projector (JVC DLA-RS2) in a completly light controlled cellar with a non-gain screen (about 2.5m wide). I only watch Blu-ray movies at 24p with an Oppo 103, no 60Hz/gaming. I'm thinking about upgrading to the Sony 550. Is this a good time/model to buy? If I understand correctly the 550 will have no trouble to display upscaled Blu-ray and UHD HDR Blu-ray movies at 24p, right?

thanks

Sony VPL-VW550ES, Oppo 103/203, Meridian 861v4/HD621, Genelec 1038/1037/7071, cellarcinema.info

I have not had the opportunity to play any UHD blu-rays yet because i`m waiting for the new Oppo player but i can tell you that the 550 looks terrific with upscaled blu-rays. This should be a really nice upgrade for you should you decide to go with the 550.

I wonder if anyone actually tested HDR gaming on this thing and if so how does it compare to a TV?
