The Hdmi Cable, Projector Inputs and Source input in the Receiver were all out. Contacted Sony and they replaced the board with warranty but still now haven't found the reason behind it. They requested me to use the "HDMI 2" port cos if it fails "HDMI 1" port will work but the vice versa is not possible. Also check whether the cable you use is capable of 18gbps, I have a suspicion that my previous HDMI cable which was 10.2 gbps (My bad I didn't check it and neither did my HT vendor) somehow overloaded and caused this issue.

I guess this is also another good reason to use fiber optic HDMI. You can't get surges through it I believe.

Guys, I've read the stories of Sony panels degrading. I've owned the 675 since it was released. While I was watching the bathroom fight scene in MI Fallout I noticed the lower bottom center of the screen was noticably purple when the entire scene takes place in a white bathroom. Does this sound like degradation to you? I've never noticed this purple hue before. I have about 1075 hours on the bulb too.

Could just be due to bulb aging. Maybe buy a new bulb and check? Also see if you can find some full screen 100%, 80% etc IRE images and display them and see what the uniformity is like. Try on low ands high bulb. Also change the gamma and colour temp settings and see if it changes anything.

It is possible it may have been like it from the start, but if it is developing an issue, then document it and gather evidence and get in touch with your dealer and/or Sony as you should still be under Prime Support warranty.

Any pics you can post up of what you are seeing?

Need your advice
I understand that when viewing a 2.39 movie there will be black bars above and below the image.
However when I expand the image to fill my 2.39 screen I get a black bar above but I see a whitish bar below which is very annoying. Is this normal?
Any comments would very much be appropriated
Dave

If I understand correctly that is the “black” bars being projected onto the area above and below your screen.

There is a setting for blanking in the menus that I use to fix that.

Over it the ATV4k forums, an HDR update for ATV4k compatibility (5.004) has been released...finally!
Downloaded it, but it failed on my Mac...had this problem before...something with hidden files needing to be deleted...so I'll search through this thread (although it might be on other Sony PJ threads).
Anyone recalling that procedure, please adivise.

I just applied the update and the picture with HDR on is still somewhat dark. If I keep HDR on I will have to recalibrate my projector and get the brightness right.

Sounds like you should try the German Curves.

How does one obtain German curves (for 675) and how does one install them? USB?
Will do a search. I now have 200h so am ready for a professional calibration, but could try this first.

Thanks,
Mike

Well,... I maybe spoke without really looking all that into it. I have the 285 and I know the "German Curves" can be used with multiple models but I don't know the ins and outs of the 675.

I may review this thread to see if anyone mentions them. Basically, if they are applicable then you down load the curves themselves (free) and the software to install them (also free) and they over write some of the built in Gamma curves.

You can back up the built in curves before over writing them. I think that with my PJ (again the 285) doing a full reset restores the original curves also.

I don't know much about the 675 but if you have dull HDR and the German Curves are used by other 675 users they should help.

So there is new firmware for the projector? Oh nice. That is unexpected! It'd be great if after this I get less handshaking issues. I'm so sick of toggling inputs to force handshaking again and again.

I take it this should work on the 550, not just the 675?

I’m wondering the same. I am in Australia and when I checked yesterday the Sony Australia website still had 5.003 as the current firmware for download.

I loaded it last night. No issues. I did get a scare as I saw it go solid red after the Amber flashing stopped, and I pulled out the USB stick, so I pulled it out and it started flashing Amber again maybe after I hit the power button on the remote, so I put it back in. It all went red again, and all Dame up ok. So maybe when it goes red after the Amber flashing, just wait a minute.

Might be a physical issue, like overheating? Is it possible vents might need vacuuming or something? I have seen it mentioned on other threads and quickly googling it could be a faulty lamp needing replacement.

BTW, I think that firmware upgrade fixed up some general handshaking issues. Since I've done it, I've not ended up in the situation where my av chain for a UHD has incorrectly put it in bt709 mode rather than 2020. I used to have it quite a lot, but not since.

I can see muted lighted edges extending outside of my screen border edges when viewing a movie, but the movie is being projected within my screen borders. Is there any way to fix that with a setting adjustment? I'm on the Normal screen size on my projector. Thanks.

Blanking may be your friend here, but if viewing on a 16:9 screen zoomed to where indicated on the following picture and you have black borders, there should be no real issue.
