I'm playing discs in an Oppo UDP-203 with Main HDMI direct to RS-520 via a 10' high speed HDMI cable, no symptoms of bandwidth limitations.

I'm using Hacksaw Ridge, comparing the UHD disc with the HD Blu-ray. In both cases the player is outputting 4k24, the PJ has e-shift turned on.

The HD disc looks perfect; the UHD disc presents the color shift. The attached pictures aren't great but you can most easily see the red misalignment on the "+" in the opening title of Hacksaw Ridge. In the others there's red smearing below the mouths. If anyone has this UHD and a UDP-203, could you please check what you see? Anyone heard of such a thing?

The second image occurs at 21:03 minutes, and the third one is from chapter 9 after the navy shells the ridge: "Nobody can survive that sh*t." The frame grab at *. In all cases the UHD is on the right.
The problem is caused by the Oppo UDP-203 player. It is not the PJ. These images were taken of 4k HDR 2:40 content fit to the screen using Oppo's 21:9 zoom mode, when the Video Output TV Aspect Ratio was set to 21:9 Fixed. But when I changed Oppo's TV ratio to 16:9 wide, the problem goes away.

I have the same issue with my Oppo 203 and RS-500. I'm glad someone else noticed this because I have not been following the Oppo 203 thread. This is not ready for prime time, though I wish it would work properly.

I have finally got my x7500 installed on my ceiling and hope to get my screen up on the weekend.

does anyone have any set up tips to start out with at this point

i know that settings are environment specific but any advice would be appreciated on what to change to get the best settings.

I used this for a 1080p baseline:

- Select a user setting to change (User 1)
- Set the lens aperture to -7 to -10 depending on screen size and desired brightness, then change to Auto 2 (this enables the Dynamic Iris and sets the max brightness)
- Set the color space to Standard, temp to 6500K
- Set the advanced picture settings to Clear Black Low, Enhance 2, Smooth 0, NR 0. Motion Enhance OFF, CMD OFF, Graphic Mode 2K, eShift on or off (I prefer on)
- Set the Gamma to Custom and select 2.4 or 2.5
- Set the brightness to eliminate any crush (+1 - +3)
- Set color to desired saturation (mine was about -8 before calibration yours may vary)

HDR you would use the normal HDR preset, high lamp, e-shift on, graphic mode 4K, and experiment with Picture Tone and Dark Level. The last 2 will introduce some gamma error and clipping, but for out of the box I found they worked very well. I think I used +3 and +2 respectively.

Obviously calibrating will give you the best results, but for just setting it up and enjoying you'll find something like this to be pretty pleasing.

My basment build is moving along faster than I hoped

I need to start thinking about a projecor mount for my 520 but I want to keep it as flush to the ceiling as possible since I have a 2nd row riser and 8' ceilings. I see the Chief RPMA218 and CMA101 often mentioned but wouldn't I need a drop tube of some kind with that style mount? I really don't want to drop the projector any lower than I have to. Any other flushmount options? I am also considering building a custom hush box that will be open to the back/front and I could have some vents on the side. With the amount of lens shift with this projector I don't suspect I would need to adjust much if I build a nice level box.

You can look at my HT thread (link in sig) with pics at beginning (JVC RS20) and end (JVC RS520 with new adapter plate).
I you can build a hush box that has adequate air circulation that also sounds good and is projector type independent for future upgrades.

Oppo is aware of the problem, and I presume that means it will be investigated and if possible, fixed. In the meantime, I'll be using settings that avoid the problem.

I had to put my PJ under a soffit, so just built a simple rack. Worked great. As tight to ceiling as you like.

I guess because it will not block the fan noise. Those slats are open, right?

Yes exactly. You can clearly see the corner of the PJ through the slats. I guess it might help a little, but it's certainly form over function.

Control4 and JVC projectors

My Control4 dealer is trying to get my projector to work with serial cable and we are having issues with the projector accepting a simple "On" command. "Off" command works as do the lens memory commands. I have a JVC RS4910 and they are using the driver from the X500 which is the same unit so I don't think that is the issue.

Any one have Control4 set up in their theater controlling their JVC through serial or IR? If you are using IR does anyone know where I can find the IR Pronto commands for lens memory 1, 2, 3? I found a JVC document that has the Hex codes but I need the Pronto codes. I am currently researching the Hex conversion to Pronto as there are various conversion programs but so far my dealer can't get them to work.

OK so just autocal-ed my X9500 and suddenly lost about 5ftl of brightness, why would that be and and how to get it back?
Gamma is spot on but gray scale is way out, in RGB blue being about 10% below baseline. I know something similar has been discussed but I can't find it.
Any suggestions? Thanks.

I emailed you...

As to where it started, well two issues one, was a bloody bum light meter for measuring lumens! Thats all fixed now.

The autocal thing was real though, just yesterday I got all my brightness back after I had switched lamps. 9900 didnt have the issue.

Hey all,

Quick question...

Can the x7500 do 2D to 3D conversion?.

I do not have the emitter nor the glasses yet, but I cannot see this option in the 3D section.
