So I will say something negative about this projector. I was really annoyed at the super long sync times with my RS 400. They may be somewhat improved with the RS 520 but I am still counting upwards of 10 seconds when changing resolutions etc! That is just unacceptable if you ask me. It is a constant annoyance. I hope this is something they can fix with a firmware update but I'm not holding my breath since it was not addressed with my RS 400. I guess I will continue to curse this time suck for years to come.

What I have gotten in the habit of doing is pausing the movie or stream or whatever after I hit play. Then wait for the picture to finally appear before hitting play again. Otherwise the content is totally playing and you can hear the sound and everything but you end up missing the first 10 seconds! If anyone has a better solution for this I am all ears.

I could not detect any motion abnormalities either. And I am pretty sensitive to these.

I will do some more testing bc it would be nice to leave it on all the time.

I should also mention that I am in way over my head with this device. I know next to nothing about calibration.

My latest mode that I am digging is THX with the iris set at -6 to -8. And then the contrast bumped to +6 to +8.

I had a request to take some more shots and/or video of UHD content so I will try to do so.

Cool thanks, I am going to jump in deep with these units when I get back from my holiday in a couple weeks and I have an X9500.

I'm sure someone will beat me to it though. But sounds to me like I will be leaving that mode on permanently.

When will the RS620 be available from AVS ? I was considering a Sony 675ES, but am leaning towards the RS620 at the moment. I have always had Sony's and currently have a VW95ES.

Any chance for Dolby Vision supprt via FW in the future ?
I like to have this one too, I don't want to wait for affordable true 4K models. (z1 is unaffordable).

Supposedly Dolby Vision support requires a proprietary chipset from Dolby to properly handle Dolby Vision HDR metadata. I'm assuming that Dolby will also allow software decoding of this metadata, but will most likely only allow certain companies to do this. I think Lumagen and Oppo both will support this down the road once we see Dolby Vision HDR UHD BD titles released. I'm sure these JVCs don't have proper on-board processing for Dolby Vision so it's not going to be supported. Lumagen video processors for instance use a pretty powerful FPGA that can be reprogrammed to process just about anything so it's easier to implement down the road.

With that said, you can bet that JVC (or Sony or Epson) won't miss an opportunity to get people to upgrade to a new unit down the road by only having the latest projectors supporting Dolby Vision.

I got a PM requesting I post some pics and or video of Pacific Rim and a few other titles. I hesitate to do this bc after seeing the results they don't look like what I am seeing on screen. So take these with a grain of salt. There is a slight blur to the pictures when you pause the screen that is not there when in motion. And of course the picture blurs a bit if it is moving. So I don't know what to do.

My first hand experience seeing the screen for myself tells me that Pacific Rim looks amazing in HDR. The black floor is stunning. I could not believe it. The space scene at the start of the movie was so dark it nearly blends in with the velvet border.

He wanted some video to look at motion. I have tried to post something through you tube. However, there are abnormalities in the video that are not there in person. Like the support cables on the golden gate bridge. And the star field has bright individual stars in real life but in the video they are small and dull. So again why am I even posting this? Possibly as a cautionary tale to not always believe what you see in posted pics or videos if you are evaluating the finer details and trying to justify a large purchase. I may just delete the pictures from this post.

But anyway here ya go for now.

Here is a link to the you tube video. I hope it works.

Ok I could use some help here. I was eager to try out the HDR gaming feature that is available on some games through my PS4.

The PS4 detected that I had an HDR capable display and prompted me to turn on HDR if I so desired like so

And when the screen reappeared this is what I get.

Everything is........well purple. Now I am a KSU Wildcat fan but this is ridiculous.

I turned the PS4 off and on again and booted the game up. During boot up it gives you this screen which held promise.

But, then back to purple pants when the game finally gave me the menu screen.

I checked with the PS4 settings and my unit is set to auto detect HDR. I also tried going directly from my JVC to the PS4 to rule out cable malfunction. Still I'm in purpleville.

Any ideas? What am I doing wrong here? @Bandyka I read your review and it appears you did some HDR gaming without a hiccup? Perhaps I will try another game later on.

I've been waiting for a PJ that has black levels good enough to moot screen masking. I'm thrilled to see your comments and will forward to seeing what the RS620 can do.

I'm not sure about screen masking yet. The Pacific Rim UHD was 16:9 and the side panels were masked. But dang was it black.

Well I am afraid there are some glitches and you just confirmed that. I first tested with Resident evil on PC and that looked absolutely horrible, white text looked like red as if the panel alignment went horribly wrong so first I thought I had a faulty filter as with the filter off it looked normal but then I turned on the PS4Pro and all games were flawless with the filter on, I also tried changing resolutions and bit depth on the PC which managed to crash the projector yes the projector not the PC so I had to shut down the PJ and reboot. After this I did not test the PC again shortly I will be looking into this. There seem to be some glitches.
The PC game also detected the PJ as native 4K so it set the resolution to 4096x2160 so the PJ seems to be reporting some things incorrectly from what I gather. So mine was pushing red yours pushing purple, interesting.

Question 3D for JVC RS520

I am new to 3D.
Kids may appreciate playing with it.
Thoughts on RS520 3D emitter and glasses?

If your screen doesn't retain polarization, try and find the Mitsubishi X105 glasses. Amazon (via 3rd party) had them for a while maybe two years ago for like $20 without the emitter and like $40 with it. They're more now, but they're way cheaper than the JVC ones, and they're the same glasses just with the polarization angle different.

Thanks.
I'm not sure about screen characteristics.

I am so glad to hear your confirmation that it is much improved, and this is making it more and more compelling to upgrade

I'd just get the "generic" 105's then. When you get them, do the rotation test, rotate them and if the brightness doesn't change, your screen doesn't retain polarization, and you're good to go. If not, then look into the JVC ones.

OK so it seems HDR gaming on PC is a no go at the moment and videos too in fact.
Everything has the red push similar to the drama with the early players except it shows differently it displays as if it was horrible panel alignment, also when I close the game and the PJ attempts to go back to normal mode from HDR it crashes. Will be contacting support tomorrow.

Can anyone test this to verify this? I had no issues with the TV or a Sony PJ.

EDIT: ok I have some serious issues with HDR gaming it worked fine on the PS4 but as soon as I exit a game and it turns off HDR mode the PJ locks up and it cannot be shut down with the remote.
So it's not just he PC, the whole mode is buggy.

JVC RS620/X9500 in bat cave Anthem MRX-720 + 3xpower amps = 7.1.4, Martin Logan Motion 60XT fronts, ML FX rears, ML Motion 50XT centre, 4 x ML Motion 2 on ceiling Atmos, ML Balanced force 210 as the beast. Panasonic UB900, STAX-3170 earspeakers, HTPC, PS4, PS3, Amiga 500 etc..Epson LS10000 calibration and WCG SDR settings: https://www.avsforum.com/forum/24-dig...l#post50298297

That sounds like something worth reporting to JVC.

Regarding PC, I keep hearing about HDR support being added to Windows 10 in the Creators Update, which implies to me that you can't actually output HDR (at least not the metadata) yet?
