BB actual came through on a NIB 570 that I ordered early last week! It will be a while before I set this thing up. Anybody that got one of these new ones up and running know if the CMD fix is pre-installed?

Nope, the projector is solid. I was the only one in the house and I had all my subs turned down. It seems to be something in the projector that is twitching around.

ALWAYS keep the new one for that price difference. Theres no reason to grab the used one.

There seems to be something funky going on with posts on this thread. The flag for 'new posts' is present for the thread, but the most recent post is not actually being shown, so the flag never goes away.

The last one I'm seeing now is by lizrussspike: "2160 of 2131." I imagine deleted posts are somehow throwing this off.

I'm curious to see if my post will show up, and reset the flag back to normal.

Mods: delete this post if it's not appropriate, but something odd is going on here.

ETA:

Somehow, the posts that wouldn't show up before, now show up after I posted this. So it seems back to normal. Still not sure what was going on...

kyzer,
What are you using to view HDR? Are you streaming or using disc, using a 4K player?
A few different settings for either the player and or projector? Let me know, as a few others have shared some settings that
really helped out with the picture. You are using low lamp too I assume?

I'm mostly using disc on a Sony ubp-x800 UHD player and appletv 4k to stream a few tv shows in hdr.

Low lamp mode

Any recommended settings for SDR and HDR would be appreciated. I plan on reading this whole thread tonight....

Can anyone point me to a calculator for this projector that will tell you the mounting distance based on different screen sizes? I know I've seen these for various projectors somewhere among the thousands of threads I've read, but I can't remember what the source website is.

Try this.

http://pro.jvc.com/pro/lens_calc/HTML/jvc_REF.html

Select the option where you want to adjust the throw distance. And then it tells you the various screen dimensions based on that distance.

In addition to the JVC calculator, there is this one, quite sophisticated, created by a fellow AVS-er (coderguy):

I wonder if you can share with me also. I am generally happy with my Oppo 203 doing the tone mapping. Prior to that I had some HDR settings that were decent, want to play around with some more tweaks to see which one looks better. Thx

I'm far from an expert- since the 570 is my first projector. but after playing around I dialed in the picture for blu-rays to be pretty good I thought. but could never get the HDR 4K settings to a place I was happy with. only after I had ChadB calibrate it then the picture really shined. long story short- if your not an advanced user than I would highly recommend having it professionally calibrated- well worth the time and money.

I ordered mid-week and apparently mine is coming in on the 22nd -- I'm pretty surprised. Did you find out the answer to your question regarding the CMD fix?

Glad to hear another forum member is getting one too! I did some more research but there does not appear to be a way to tell by serial number or firmware version if the CMD hardware fix is in place. I am expecting to have to confirm one way or the other with content. It is still on the box while I rewire my system and settle on a mount. It really doesn't change too much as it is still a great deal even if I have to send it in. Perhaps I'll keep my Panasonic 8000u PJ handy if it has to be out of service for a week or two.

Get an Oppo 203 disc player and use it to manage the HDR content....the projector doesn't handle HDR well. Also, when I first got my projector if it got the HDR flag in the handshake, it would automatically kick it into the bright mode on the bulb. With the Oppo managing the HDR, the projector now stays in low mode so probably will extend the life I'm hoping.

Can someone take a look at the menu on their projector and tell me if the image is twitching / jumpy? My jitters around by a pixel or so up and down and side to side. It sure doesn't seem normal but I'm not sure.

Mine does this after it's been on for a bit with both the eshift on and off. The black line at the top of the video is the border of my fixed screen. If you look at this line you can see how the image is twitching around. The camera is on a tripod and the projector is fixed on a shelf and not moving:

You don't need the Oppo to keep your bulb in low. All I did was select the HDR mode. The default is bulb High. I set my bulb to low. The projector remembers the setting. So now, anytime it receives the HDR flag, my 420 switches into the HDR setting but the bulb is still on low.

The problem with that is if you are below 30FL, the HDR movie may be too dark. The Oppo maps the HDR to a different curve, so the HDR movie is not so dark.

You guys are selling me on Oppo 203. If it does mkv playback with atmos (through usb) I'll pick it up tomorrow. The sony UBP-800 I own now does not.

kyzer soze, I would ask the SME's over on the Oppo thread. I think I read that some folks have had luck doing that, but I cannot speak on the subject, as I do not play mkv files on my Oppo. It is an incredible machine though. This is my second Oppo product.

Thank you for the information.

All I saw in the post that I quoted was it sounded like they needed the Oppo to keep the bulb in low-power mode. But from your reply, now I understand how they are using the Oppo and the 420.
