Heck of a difference, just have to get pat the thought that I person is leaving something on the table by not using HDR. A little disappointing.

Question, do you use HDR with your UHD source?

I do not use HDR on anything, I just don’t think the 420 is good with it but your mileage may vary if you have custom curves loaded.

You can get pretty good looking HDR on the RS420. Here's an example (on an RS400, 115” scope screen, low lamp):

Of course, what I post here is only an SDR approximation of what’s on the screen.

Hey Gouie, I had mind professionally calibrated and wha a difference, I use the OPPO 203 and the picture is amazing in my opinion. When the calibrator shows up to your house with $50k of equipment you can’t do the same with a calibration disk.

Anyways I will ask him if he will come out west if you are interested

My phone doesn’t do these pictures justice but HUGE difference in blacks a skin tones

The blacks are black not blue

It’s amazing what a person simply accepts as normal. It was only after my third $3k panel that I finally had it calibrated. I’d gotten so used to the blazing whites that I thought the calibrator failed miserably. Seeing black comparisons like this is not different, just got used to blacks being blue.

I wasn't impressed with HDR either until I started using Dominic Chan's recommended settings linked below. I have a 120" screen in a fully light controlled room with an Xbox One X for games and movies. 4k movies and games like Gears 5 and Forza Horizon 4 look gorgeous with these settings. You might try them and see what you think.

Yep, I use those settings for my 135 inch. 4K HDR looks great. And it is pretty consistent across the several different movies I've used.

I can get a used 420 for 2300cad. I wonder if it is a good deal or if I should wait for a newer projector?
I have currently a hd550 on a 120'' screen and would like to upgrade.

Hi, quick question:

Is the X570 the same projector as the European model X5500?

Hi I come from a JVC RS35 which I have really loved. But the X570 that I just received yesterday and I have briefly looked at it seems spectacular! So bright and vivid ! I have just operated a first brief calibration with a 1 display pro and it’s ‘already’ almost perfect! I can keep the lens aperture at-15 and have after calibration a 24 fL on screen (103 size) low lamp! Contrast is around 30.000 measured and black level 0.005 (the 35 had about same black level and contrast with a luminance on screen of 17fL). So I am fully satisfied about those points that I thought could be weaknesses for this projector. Not at all. I calibrated only on Rec.709 but I am willing to create a set with Rec.2020 too. The only matter is about gamma. I’ve got an average 2.2 but the curve is not as straight as I could see on the 35 with the traditional 12 steps diagram. I have still to understand how The x570 gamma controls work. I read a lot about and now I came to the conclusion that the picture tone adjust in general the curve over or below the target level in the range 20-80 ire. The black level adjust the 0-10 ire and bright level the 90-100. I will try tonight to fix my curve on the basis of this parameters. I know that it would be easier with autocal but for the moment I would like to avoid the expense of a spyder 5 just for the gamma! Now as regards 4k and HDR I totally ignorant so please help me. I bought a HD Fury linker because I read you need it with hdr content to make the auto iris work but I really don’t know how to use the linker! I have ordered a Sony x700 4k Blu-Ray player and when it is here I will start to try hdr content. So I will help for the linker and hdr ! I read about custom curves...I need help for them too. So so far I can say that the x570 with 1080 content is an excellent projector and can be surpassed only by higher Jvc models of the same generation or newer. I got it for a good deal too I think, so totally satisfied!

only 1080 and I have to admit I like the e-shift on this projector much more than what I saw on the X500. I was worried about contrast and blacks which could be not so great due to the only 40.000:1 native contrast. I changed my mind! In my set I can keep the lens aperture at -15 and I have measured

You can still do the "traditional" 12-step gamma calibration. The controls are provided in the same calibration software as autocal, but can be used in conjuction with other calibration software and meters.

Hi Dominic thank you. So autocal includes a 12 steps gamma calibration? But I read that the software wouldn’t work with a display 1pro. Please would you explain exactly this point ? It is really essential to me! Thank you

As I mentioned in the previous post, the 12-point manual gamma adjustments can be used with any calibration software and any meter. It's the automatic calibration that requires a Spyder5 or i1Pro2.

Thank you Dominic! So if I download the JVC software I will find also a not automatic calibration procedure usable with every meter? Sorry I am really new to this! I have a couple of questions. If I use this not automatic procedure I guess I don’t need to be connected to the projector via lan correct? I should be able to use the software like any other software like hcfr or calman, correct? Thank you infinitely Dominic!

It’s easier for you to run the software (or at least read the manual, section on Gamma Data Adjustment Procedure) than for me to explain it.

You still need a LAN connection, as that’s how the software makes changes to the ptojector, even for “manual” gamma adjustments.
