Perfectly flat. Does the same thing on the wall without the screen.

You already got a replacement? Mine doesn't do that either, but if it did, it would be going right back! Dell does have the 2-year business warranty on this projector, so you could get an advanced replacement if you haven't already.

Yes, already replaced the first one, second does the same. We're going to do a bit more troubleshooting today and see what we can figure out.

Try it on a different wall. May be your wall is not flat.

So I can get this for $3,687 right now (member pricing - 17% sale right now - 10% ebates cashback - dell advantage). I think this is a really good price. Having a hard time justifying spending this much for a "TV" though.

4:2:2 signal has dithering issues?

I noticed that if I bump my Apple TV up to 4:2:2 signal I get a lot of old school dithering, like the color pallet drops significantly.. Anyone else played with more color bits? Looks like a projector issue with how it handles color data... 4:2:0 looks fine though.. wierd that that the projector could handle fewer colors with the higher bit-data but there you have it.. (at least for me)

I currently have an Epson 8500ub on a DIY screen. I was waiting for a new laser/LED 4k HDR projector. It seems that nothing coming out is really going to push the needle very far so I took the plug and ordered the Dell. Supposed to arrive tomorrow. Also went for the Elite Screen CLR UST 120" I'll post some quick thoughts with just my current plain white DIY screen then later on with the CLR Elite screen. I'm excited for the improvements with brightness and longevity with the laser. Expecting tradeoffs with black levels but I've been watching 90% of the time with ceiling lights in a semi controlled living room.

For those using an Xbox One S/X for 4K Blu-Ray playback, a note and question - if the option 'Allow YCC 4:2:2' is checked under the advanced video settings, the projector does not kick in to HDR mode and colors are muted (similar to watching a 4k blu-ray on a non-HDR display). If I uncheck that option, HDR mode turns on and it looks great, but I get severe color banding in specific scenarios like the red in Snoke's throne room in The Last Jedi, or in blue skies. Does anyone else experience this?

I received my Dell and have been messing around with it. First impressions. 1) brightness is awesome. 2) colors are okay. 3) RBE can be noticed but overall not bothersome 4) MEMC is pretty good 5) sharpness with 4k is great. 6) contrast is pretty good. 7) HDR mixed bag. Turning it to HDR bright adds a lot of pop which is closer to a flat panel look. Overall I'm pleased with it and can't wait for my elite CDR screen to show up. I am running this on an Xbox one x. I don't have banding issues. The yuv box is checked and it switches just fine. I did have to change my HDMI cable as an older one couldn't handle anything with 4k HDR. So may need a new quality cable to get a good picture.

Two questions - firstly, is it possible to focus on a screen smaller than 80"? 100"+ is just too large for my living room (well, according to my wife). Only looked at the projector briefly and I realise the main problem is that it can't physically go any closer to the wall because of the cables, but if the screen was floating a couple of inches from the wall i.e. it was more in line with the rear edge of the projector, would it still be able to focus that close - I heard the focus motor still moving when the projected image was already at 100" but boy is it slow! Second thing was if anyone had used a high gain screen with this or any other UST? I got two Prodisplay Titanium ultra high gain acrylic screens which were 120" but damaged in the corner so can be cut down. I realise people are using CLRs with lenticular lenses but I don't have one of those laying around and most are still too large for me even if I ditch the Dell and get an Optoma 1080p UST.

I don’t think the 100 inch minimum screen size is only limited by the projector distance to the screen, also by the throw ratio of this Dell projector. Regarding the high gain screen, you can give it a try, but I think due to the steep throw angel of this UST, reflected bright shadow will be upon the ceilings right above the screen. CLR screens usually have gain of 0.85 or less. Good luck

Xbox One X - 4k HDR games having some issues. Is anyone else having trouble with 4k HDR signals from games? When I play a HDR game on the Xbox One X I often run into times where the video cuts out and goes to a black screen before resyncing. I've tried every software option such as change the color depth. Haven't hooked up a computer to it. Right now I don't know if its my cable or dell. I used the same cable on my Samsung KS8000 TV without any video issue. On my Xbox One X with the dell unit I can run into games where the HDR is causing loss of image (black screen!) Can get very annoying to deal with.

I should clarify that it only happens for a game with the most intense visuals going on. For example with Gears of War 4 on a bright and complex scene. I can watch HDR movies or streaming video with little to none cutouts. I imagine its when the data output from the Xbox is at its peak. I'm not 100% I have certified 18gbs HDMI cables. I do know I've used the same cable with my Samsung KS8000 TV and experienced not video drops. I've ordered a couple of monoprice certified 18gbs cables and will try it out. Man I really hope this will address the games. 4k HDR games look pretty nice especially when HDR bright enabled.

I have experienced similar issues with Sony UBP-X800 blueray plays Planet Earth II UHD on Netflix 4K with AudioQuest 4K HDMI cable.

Then I tried the same Netflix 4K Planet earth II UHD through Roku Stream stick+ with 4K support, amazingly the video issue is completed gone as there is no HDMI cable in between the Roku and the Dell UST.

Just-so-people-know... All genuine 'Premium Certified' products should have a hologram to prevent counterfeiting: -

For more information why your HDMI leads need to be 'Premium' certified look here: HDMI :: Premium HDMI Cable Certification Program :: FAQs

Plus, genuine Premium certified leads (with hologram) are not expensive!

So I solved my issue. I turned off the Xbox one X option for YCC 422. This completely eliminated the video drops. HDR still auto switches for games and movies and is rock solid! Also I noticed before I did have some banding with YCC 422. I have the Xbox settings for 10-bit color, RGB color space and everything except YCC 422 marked. Loving it! The brightness on this project cannot be understated. Coming from my Epson 8500ub the Dell blows it away in terms of brightness. I did turn down green to 49 in the R, G, B, settings and have the white balance at high. Colors are decent. Get my Elite CLR screen tomorrow! Almost don't need it as there is so much light coming from this projector.

So for those who have this Dell projector, what is your settings to get the best picture? Let us share the settings.

So far I just have mine on default setting from factory so I now want to change the setting a little to improve picture quality.

Is the advertised lumen count at source or on the wall? Xiaomo has been using deceptive marketing in this regard. They mention this crazy lumens number but it's at the source (and not on the wall).

For the people that own this Dell projector, do you think that it is noisy?

I have never owned a projector before and this Dell laser projector was my first. At first I thought that the noise from the projector is normal. However, I now think that this projector is pretty noisy. At a distance of about 10 feet away from the projector, I can still hear the fan noise.

I don't own it (yet) but by all accounts it's supposed to be almost silent.

Will be installing my S718QL soon, can't afford a CLR / ALR but was planning a screen using a MDF sheet for a nice flat surface. What paint would folk recommend?

Check out this paper on Projector Central:

http://www.projectorcentral.com/paint_perfect_screen_$100.htm

I tried it and it looked good. However I didn't use it as my wall was too bumpy with sheetrock swirly coating. I should have bought some MDF and tried that.

As per my last post, finally getting round to my living room install. Got HDMI 2.0 / premium cables to try out 4k from Virgin Media V6 box (currently only YouTube app till I upgrade Netflix sub). I noticed that when entering / exiting the menu whilst on HDMI 2.0 input, the image flickers and flashes the incorrect colours. I don't think I have this issue with other HDMI (1.4) inputs Then occasionally whilst playing 4K YouTube footage the video corrupts and then freezes - is this something others have suffered from?

I had presumed that it was from using a cheaper (non-2.0) cable but these are the correct kind and should support the bandwidth of 60Hz and 10-bit colour.

Virgin STB is set to 2160p but might try option for 2160p pass through, if that makes any difference. Don't have any other 4K sources yet as I only have second generation Chromecast, and haven't bought the Chromecast Ultra yet. Currently all sources go directly to S718QL and optical still go back into surround sound (still to install speakers in new positions). Bit of a compromise... no HD audio but input switching using projector remote and 4K is connected directly. Will to AV receiver which supports 4K as well as newer audio formats.

I want to use a 4k ultra short projector on a Stewart ALR 100" screen, but don't know if this the correct projector for me. I mostly watch TV, movies, and sports, no gaming and pc displays. I would like opinions since Dell only advertises the business use for this projector.
