Can anyone estimate Canadian $ pricing on the X990?

And maybe a ship date yet?

Since this is the JVC thread can some of the experts explain why they would go with the JVC over the Sony (other than price)?
WCG
Brighter,
Dramatically higher contrast,
No potential panel/contrast degradation
Probably negligible difference in sharpness

Pick it up in the states or have it shipped from a US reseller. It is cheaper to fly to the US, stay at a 5 star hotel, and bring back a JVC projector than to buy it in Canada at the outrageous prices they are listed for here.

I attended the show today and looked closely at both the new laser Sony (885) and the new JVC (640). On paper, the Sony should be hands down better. To my eye, the opposite was true. The better color and contrast of the JVC more than made up for its imperceptible (to me) deficit in resolution. If I decide to upgrade my 3 year old Sony, I'll probably make the jump to JVC.

Just my two cents...

Main reason why I am not too concern with a native 4k JVC because the eshift are just amazing for a mucj lower cost

Sharper than my RS500 and with HDR engaged on that demo it was spectacular. Lucky to those who are purchasing this year.

It seems they were stretching the capabilities of the RS4500 a bit too far. Once we have the performance metrics of the RS6xx line with native 4K panels I'll be set for a LONG time and I don't think I'll be upgrading bi-yearly as I have been for the past 6 or so years with JVC projectors. With Sony bringing native 4K to the $5000 price point, it would seem a necessity next year for JVC to counter that model with something native 4K of their own near that price point. Maybe Epson too? I think next CEDIA will be even more exciting than this year.

Yes, it did seem they were pushing the RS4500 to the limits.

By the way the contrast level of the RS640, even in a very bright image, still looked very deep compared to any other projector on the floor. At this point it is untouchable...

Let's hope the 640 carries the same 5 year warranty as 600 & 620. I didn't see warranty mentioned in press release.

How many lumens are the new 640 and mid-model under that rated for? Is it the same lumens as before except that with the P3 filter in place its 20% brighter, or overall 20% brighter, or...?

What meters does the new lineup support for its Auto-cal software?

Did they ever fix the red push or whatever software bug there was with the most recent autocal?

I think the RS4500 screen was a bit large, maybe to just show you can light up a screen that big. The RS640 on a smaller screen was super bright in comparison - like a 4K flat panel TV ! The Great Wall looked crazy bright !

First, Millerwill was at the show and didn't say Hi. For that, you might not get pre-order pricing.

Second, Mike confirmed what Kris has said. I know the CMD fix is for at least the '20s not sure about '00s. Hopefully by tomorrow some tests will be done to either confirm or deny the fix.

They had low lag on to test the sync time, with Fate of the Furious playing ( and The Great Wall ), and I noticed no quality reduction picture wise. I have also turned on low lag on my RS4500, and didn't notice any picture quality reduction.

No more 5 year warranty on the 640 or 2 year on the 440. 3 year warranty with an advanced replacement program like Epson does. All three models.

RS440/540/640 all have 3 year warranty. Warranty is also advanced exchange, rather than repair, if you want. But this warranty and advanced exchange policy is only for dealers that are authorized.
