Too bad laser DLPs are still stuck with slow RBE producing color wheels.

You don't actually believe it's going to deliver that do you?

It's not 4K either. It's Faux-K.

It's unlikely this will see 1800:1 contrast all jokes aside. When manufacturers drops these types of claims it should be laughed at. Its bad for consumers, bad for the manufacturers in the eyes of knowledgeable consumers, and bad for the industry.

Actually from what I'm reading this one seems to be native 4K, though we don't have a MSRP yet. MSRP will likely be a good indicator on 4K or faux-K.

Nope -" 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160) resolution display with 8.3 megapixel on screen thanks to XPR technology from Texas Instruments " . XPR = pixel shifted. Not that the picture can't look good. I haven't seen one yet myself.

That's the first time I learned of a Frame Interpolation comparison between an Acer ("AcuMotion") and a Sony ("MotionFlow"):

https://www.avsforum.com/forum/24-dig...l#post54732712

UPDATE: Just learned that it merely meant that some 4K DLPs feature FI for 4K program content while Sony provides that only for the new VW760, so nothing to write home about.

This concerns me a bit about the UHZ65 as that projector has similar lumens to this Acer, even though this Acer looks more like a Delta design than Coretronic. While they are different designs I wonder if similar cost savings were enacted in the UHZ65, as there has been no commitment by Optoma as to % DCI-P3 coverage.

If BenQ does add several features to the HT9050 via firmware (HDR, 3D, and 24p), it might end up being the best of the 2017 DLP 4K pack afterall. It seems all three of those things are now technically possible via the new TI firmware, so we will see what happens.

Yes both are Coretronic ODM, like the UHP lamp versions. They are 709. Look for MCLA engined projector to become available with p3 filtering, not blu-laser engined projectors in this segment. Big boys might offer enough output to filter.

The MCLA design looks nice, hope we see one announced soon by BenQ or the like, with the whole dual laser setup and all.

Although I probably would have been more happy with the Philips Colorspark gen2 that was supposed to be 5000 lumens, but it sounds like that isn't going to happen anymore.

Thanks, pretty misleading info from Acer then.

How can firmware add 3D if the projector doesn't even have a dlp link connector!

What do you mean? DLP link has no connection, the signal is embedded in the picture.

The BenQ w7000/w7500 were extremely popular 3d DLP projectors and neither has any physical 3d ports.

Here is my test on the excellent VL7860. You will find comparisons with the SONY VPL-VW260ES that I also have at home right now.

WOW!

It sounds like the dynamic black laser modulation routines are amazing and no pumping even at max!!! This puts DLP back in the game IMO in the 5k-10k range.

Can't wait to see this same laser design in the Coretronic "premium" chassis with better lens, 95%+ DCI-P3, and 3D - probably released by BenQ in late 2018.

I am still wondering how the uhz65 will compare to the acer. It's a shame that the acer has only one preset while the Uhz has 3. The acer may as well add 3d as it can disable the xpr. Very curious to see what BenQ will be introducing as it had to drop philips' colour spark led

Maybe a Yellow Notch filter could be use to expand the color gamut to be closer to DCI-P3. Light loss could be up to 25% and reduce contrast.

They demo'd dci-p3 laser in the x12000 chassis at ISE. There is light loss but more than enough light to go around, especially if they go the Coretronic dual red/blue laser MCLA design.

No Acer is not sold in USA.

USA will have very similar Optoma UHZ65 instead.

Good review. What I don't get is the judder. Also saw this mentioned in the Optoma UHZ60 thread to. Is this recently introduced with the 4K DLP ship as on my Marantz VP-15S1 panning is fluent without judder in movies.

DLP 4K launched without the ability for manufacturers to implement native 24p (3:2 pulldown used).

In late August 2017, TI made available the software tools for manufacturers to implement native 24p at 48hz (2:2), but models near completion at that time like the Acer may not have gotten this.

So, the UHZ65 doesn't do 24P at 48hz?
