I can't predict the future, but good optics are never cheap, and actual big improvements either cost big bucks, or take a lot longer than one would think. I should know - I've been buying and using home theater projectors for over 15 years. " Laser Version with a lot better optics and lumens was released in 3 years for $5K? " - highly doubtful, but who knows. But you're talking to the wrong guy - I rarely regret spending money on anything I want to buy.

Buy once, cry once. (if the WAF is on point of course!)

I'll settle for an uninvited visit so I can help Juan set it up. I'm a man of the people after all.

Are you going to hook a PC up to this? Any chance you can test a pixel pattern to see how this resolves individual pixels?

Amazon seems to think they're sending him one so were hoping for the best.

True. As far as WAF, we have a new service -

" Honey, this RS4500 only cost $ 5999.00 ".

This is a bummer,

Display resolution*3
Computer signal input: Maximum display resolution: 1920 x 1080 dots (HDMI Input only)
Video signal input: 480/60p, 576/50p, 720/60p, 720/50p, 1080/60i, 1080/50i, 1080/60p, 1080/50p, 1080/24p, 3840 x 2160/24p, 3840 x 2160/25p, 3840 x 2160/30p, 3840 x 2160/50p*4, 3840 x 2160/60p*4, 4096 x 2160/24p, 4096 x 2160/25p, 4096 x 2160/30p, 4096 x 2160/50p*4, 4096 x 2160/60p*4

*1 The figures are expected maintenance time and not guaranteed. They will depend on the environment or how the projector is used.
*2 The values are estimate.
*3 Displayed image may be converted for some input signals.
*4 YCbCr 4:2:0. And the displayed format is in 8bit
*5 Both HDMI inputs are compatible with HDCP2.2

This has been discussed, and the consensus is that the spec sheet is incorrect. There have been numerous reports of the bandwidth being 13.5Gbs, and even a screenshot of the projector accepting/displaying 4k/60p, 10bit, HDR, bt2020 (albeit at 4:2:0, just like the 675es).

Hope so but only one way to know for sure. Sounds like Ekki may have these to test? Reading Cine4Home in Google translate. Where is the screen showing 60p @ 10 bit?

It took me a while to dig it up, but the post in the link below has the screenshot.
https://www.avsforum.com/forum/24-dig...l#post54724064

Also, below is a quote from Sony's press release:
"The VPL-VW285ES supports 4K HDR signals at 60p with 10-bit depth for compatibility with gaming systems and high frame rate movies."
Source: https://blog.sony.com/press/sony-ele...at-cedia-2017/

Several Sony reps have also confirmed 13.5Gbs. I think this is a safe bet.

Both projectors are available for pre-order with Amazon and Best Buy. Amazon has no eta listed that I can see. Best Buy is saying mid October for them both.

It has been reported on earlier models that it may take in 10bit, but could be dithered down to 8 bit for display on the panel itself, explaining some of the banding that's been reported. I believe @Seegs108 reported the panel drivers having this limitation on earlier Sony models.

Notice it says "displayed format":

I noticed that Sony changed up the lamp for the 285 & 385. The new lamp is LMP-H220 whereas the old 365 had LMP-H210.

Any guesses as to why? Same chassis, same everything, but different lamp, lens, and supposedly better contrast (yet to be verified).

Or is this just a move by Sony to charge more for yet another lamp that isn't readily available?

My bet is that tomorrow when the projector is supposed to show up, nothing will show up. Then he will check the shipping link from amazon and the status will be changed to "BackOrdered".

This has happened to me before with new equipment. I think it is some sort of bug with Amazon direct.

The dithering is what I am afraid of. If I am understanding Cini4Home Ekki has enough concerns he is going to be checking these and it sounds like soon. http://cine4home.de/forums/topic/die...rblick/page/6/

The 285/385 use a lower power, less bright lamp.

where did that info come from? Sony shows the LMP-H210 as the 215 watt 1080P HW65 replacement lamp.

https://www.sony.com/electronics/pro...etails_default

LMP-H220 is the 225 watt VW365ES lamp

You would think so, but he said he had a tracking number. It has been more than 24 hours, so if he is seeing movement on the package, something is coming. If no movement, then nothing is coming and like you, expect to see backordered.

Tracking shows out for delivery. What exactly I get is anyone's guess. I also thought it could be a Amazon bug.
