If you want SDR2020 you should use the BT.2020 colour profile, with an SDR gamma (2.2 or 2.4).

If I do that, what can I do to create a different color Profile for HDR utilizing the color filter?

You use two Picture Modes, one for SDR and one for HDR. Both use the same BT.2020 colour profile but with different gamma settings.

That makes sense. Does sharing the color profile have any impacts on the gamma since it was Calibrated with a different color profile? I guess I was thinking it would. If not I guess problem solved.

Ah, so with the Oppo you already have the tone-mapping capability. I believe the settings on the first post of this thread are what have been found to be optimal with Oppo/RS540.

For 4K HDR sources not coming from Panasonic 820/Oppo, I've found the settings by Dominic and JAVS via ARVE tool work best... e.g. Roku/Apple 4K

Oh.. one other thing... I don't know how well this works (I dont have oppo)... but you may be able to have your Roku HDMI out feed into the Oppo and use tone-mapping that way... that's a unique feature that Oppo 203 has.

Thanks stumlad.

Im not exactly sure what all the 203 is doing with an UHD HDR signal. It has some luminance settings that you can adjust. I put it down from 1,000 down to 500 and then down again to 300 and Im liking that a lot. Then theres the gamma adjustments on the JVC that Ive been playing around with and it really made a huge diference as before I had them all at 0. Im almost positive that the Panasonic players you mention have better tone-mapping. If they were $199 or even $299 i might try one but Im actually tapped out from buying the RS540.

Im gunna try some of Dominics settings and also look around more at olds posts.

Thanks.

Each gamma calibration is shared by all profiles and picture modes that have the same lamp power, CMD and colour filter setting.

There aren’t any picture compromises by turning on Low Latency. It’s especially helpful if you are a gamer, as it reduces input lag. For me, I had a slight lip sync issue and turning on low latency fixed it.

Remarkable. It is worthwhile, especially with the current cost of the RS 540

There’s a dedicated thread on JVC Autocal. It was created originally for the RSx00 (2015) models but 95% of the info applies equally well for the RSx20 and RSx40 models.

For gamma, Autocal calibrates the “base gamma”, not specifically SDR or HDR.

The thread does cover BT2020 but Autocal doesn’t do that good a job for BT.2020, as the projector’s gamut is approx. DCI-P3 with the filter.

EDIT: Some Spyders may also result in a yellowish white when used for colour calibration.

Recently I changed out the HDMI cable that connects my projector to my AVR. I am now using a Ruipro optical HDMI which seems to function perfectly during viewing.

Additionally, I recently cut speaker holes in my double drywall ceiling for Atmos speakers. I covered the projector up during the dusty process but it’s possible that it may have taken some dust. I cleaned it off from the outside afterward but maybe I’ve got to get out and clean the filter?

Thoughts on why this may have happened, suggestions on how to rectify? Thanks in advance for any help!

Does anyone have any ideas on above? Just happened for a second time. I’ve used the projector for many hours since the first time it happened until the second time tonight with no issues whatsoever. Anybody experiencing this issue or can tell me what the error codes mean?

The error code indicates “Lamp does not light up and unit is unable to project”.

It’s the last error code described in the manual (P.78).

The lamp may not be “failing”. You can continue to use it.

This is going to sound ridiculous but is it normal to get a PJ error from time to time? Why should I assume the lamp is not failing when I get this error every now and then? Bought the projector brand new; lamp time is sitting at 850 hours.

Thank you for directing me to the owners manual page. The description of the error code I am receiving suggest to check the lamp and lamp cover are installed correctly and then restart. Maybe some vibrations from the floor above have knocked the lamp loose?

Sorry for so many questions; I love this projector and just trying to determine what I’m up against…

I didn’t say it’s “normal”, but the only other option is to replace the lamp. If the projector is still under warranty you can contact JVC.

X1, X2, X3 are different error codes with different causes. Remove the lamp and re-inserting it may not solve the problem, but is easy enough to try.

Fair enough thank you for the input Dominic.

How often should one be cleaning the air filter? Can a dirty air filter cause oddball error codes? Thought I read somewhere something about that...

Question about 3D glasses for these projectors. I currently have an IR sensor but have the older JVC/xpand 103. They work well, but they are heavy. If I went with an RF emitter, what are the best 3rd party light-weight glasses that work with this? I have a Stewart ST130 G3 screen. I do not believe it holds any polarization. I have seen some info on the Xpand 105, but is there a specific model number i need? (I know they have IR and RF glasses, but I remember reading somewhere that some are horizontal and some are vertical).

The lamp may not be “failing”. You can continue to use it.

I had a lamp error with my X790 at around 200 hrs and it wouldn't even start up. I ended up taking the bulb out and putting it back in and that seem to correct the error and everything worked fine after that.
