I use an ATV4K with RS420. Frame rate match simply means the ATV doesn’t change the source frame rate; it’s not matching anything with the projector as such. The projector will sync to it, if compatible.

Yes I’m using it. It does change frame rate however it takes 6-10 sec to change frame rate back and forth which is really distracting so I ended up only using Match range setting

OK, :-) than the question will be - if JVC is compatible and will it sync with ATV?

Yes. Just curious why it is important for you? I don’t see much difference or may be I haven’t observed closely with that setting on or off

So it takes some time, but it really syncs frame rate with the movie from ATV.

Thanks a lot

Always considered as a rule to avoid any frame rate conversion. May be rules had changed...

Electronics will fail at some point no matter what the build quality, even when you first get them. Sometimes they just get retired as well, bet even these retirement units that are put on the shelf somewhere, they can not last forever either if they where continued to be used. Not much on this planet lasts forever.......

How will the RS440 look on a diy spandex 120" 16:9 screen ? Too dim for 0.8 gain screen?

Does anyone know if you can replace just the bulb itself when it reaches the end of its life, rather than the whole housing?

My currently projector's manufacturer recommends replacing the whole housing since you can just pop out the old one and plug in a new one that way, but it's a big waste and more costly. I was able to just pay 1/3 the price by opening up the housing and replacing just the bulb itself.

With this projector having such a high bulb replacement cost (with the housing), anything to bring the price down would be helpful.

You can replace the bulb itself. Just make sure it’s an Ushio NSHA250JK, which is the same type used in the JVC PK-L2615U. Do not use the NSHA230JK even though some claim it’s “compatible”.

Hi, Dominic Chan

Is this bulb the same as the RS540? I'm looking at upgrading to either RS440 or RS540 and just was wondering if the bulbs are the same.

Are instructions for swapping in a new bulb for the old one (using the old housing) available anywhere online?

The lamp is the same for all RSx00 through RSx40 models. Even the new (NX) models use the same bulb, but in different housing.

I haven’t seen any YouTube videos for this particular lamp, but the process is very similar to the older lamps (PK-L2210u, PK-L2312u). I have outlined the steps here:

Hi, I just got the RS440, please can some advise what resolution i should set my Nvidia shield to? it looked a bit funny when it was on default (4k @59hz) and better on 1080p but i assume i wont be able to stream any 4k material.

I also noticed that it took a while for the projector to sync; is there anything i can do to reduce the sync time?

apologies for my ignorance and thanks in advance.

the DLA-RS440U and the DLA-RS540U are around the same price point but when i search for reviews on the 540, I dont come up with any? specs wise the 540U looks to be a better projector but I can find the 440U used for a good price so what are peoples thoughts on this? has anyone come across a comparison review between the two?

Those two projectors are also known as the DLA-x590 and x790 respectively.
https://www.soundandvision.com/conte...ojector-review

The differences between them have remained the same for the last 3 generations (x550 vs x750, x570 vs x770 etc).

The sony motion will be a little better. The JVC will be sharper, handle 4K content, and have far better blacks. The sony iris doesn't do as much to help either. But the artifacts from JVC's iris is more noticeable. The 45es and 440 have same lumen ratings, but the JVC will be about 300 lumens brighter on low lamp than the sony due to the way that JVC and Sony run their low lamp bulbs. I consider the 440 a sizeable upgrade over a 45es.

I'm debating on waiting saving for a rs540 although I have no idea the difference between the 540 and 440 I assume mainly black levels is difference and little wider color gamut. Not sure if that's worth it as i have an opportunity get a 440 for around 2k

There can be scenes where you see the iris clamp down a level when it doesn't really need to. It doesn't happen very often. The contrast on the RS440 is still a lot better than the Sony though, and because it's brighter on low lamp, you could clamp the iris down to say -8 and disable the dynamic iris entirely and probably be close to brightness matched to the sony on low lamp and still have better blacks than the sony.

I used to have a 45es. The Sony is a great 1080p projector but the 440 is absolutely worth the extra cost if its within your budget. Its brighter, much better contrast, 4k resolution and it can actually do HDR. Call Mike at AV Science and see what deals he has. @Mike Garrett

The RS500 here on AVS for sale for $2250 is going to perform better than the new RS440 in my opinion.

The RS500 will perform better than the RS440, but is harder to set up for HDR as it will constantly switch to the built-in Gamma D when detecting HDR.

You will need an HD Fury Linker or similar, to disable the HDR metadata.
