Improving Madvr HDR to SDR mapping for projector

...sorry, meant to say at ISE, not CEDIA, but hopefully it will be possible to see at CEDIA under the same circumstanses again!

To elaborate a little now that I have seen even more content during the show; it not only does wonders to what I just stated above, it also makes very dark scenes, like parts of that Deepwater Horizon blowout clip, come to life. The contrast limitation of the 5000 is far less visible with the processor applied. Other than that, I have never ever seen true Ferrari red like I did just now with the 5000 and madvr combo. The cinematic feel was just mesmerising!

MadVR did run some sessions turning their processing on and off btw, still at P3 with a calibrated 5000, using their internal HDR mapping and with the processor doing it. To say the least Sony needs to step up, the difference was just in leaps...... Sony sent just about all personell attending the tradeshow to see the setup btw, and they were just as impressed as me....

Eagerly waiting on my Ford vs Ferrari disc. I have watched a dozen movies over the past 2 weeks with Log Conservative. Every last one of them looked better than they ever have before.

I will watch Deep Water Horizon tonight.

I am still noticing flickering with some movies,
right now with "Hitman: Agent 47"
around 38min 19sec is quite evident.

These are my settings (HSTM Off)

Hi Claw,

With these settings, what do you have gamma set to in the RS500? 2.4? Thanks!

This is maybe due to the tone mapping adaptation? I don't have this movie to check.

Another example here in the clouds with a sudden jump: http://www.mediafire.com/file/c0h2x4...ation.mkv/file

FWIW, I now use this more conservative curve for HSTM:

(strength 100): 1000-1134-1192-1226-1269-1297-1326-1360-1384-1403-1418-1431-1442-1462-1476-1500

It feels more natural to me.

Here is a quick comparison: http://www.framecompare.com/image-co...rison/J29CCNNU

Settings used for the comparison (strength 100):

- low: 1000-1134-1192-1226-1269-1297-1326-1360-1384-1403-1418-1431-1442-1462-1476-1500
- medium: 750-951-1038-1089-1153-1195-1240-1290-1326-1354-1377-1397-1413-1441-1464-1500
- high: 500-769-884-952-1037-1093-1153-1221-1269-1306-1336-1362-1384-1422-1452-1500
- very high: 250-586-730-815-922-992-1066-1151-1211-1257-1295-1328-1355-1402-1440-1500
- extreme: 0-403-576-678-806-890-979-1081-1153-1209-1254-1293-1326-1382-1428-1500

Full settings in attachment. Now going to watch Jojo Rabbit in HDR

Yes, 2.4 that matches what I set in MadVR.

Hello,

I'm completely new to this so sorry in advance for the noob questions. I have an HTPC with the GTX 1070 card. My Projector is the BenQ HT3550
https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-HT3550-P.../dp/B07MTY97T2

I've set up Kodi DSPlayer with MadVR version 0.92.17. For HDR, I chose the option "convert HDR to SDR content using pixel shader math" (the 3rd one). Everything else is left at default. My problem is that it drops frames like crazy and my video lags noticeably behind my audio (like around 200ms or so).

So, my questions are (again, please pardon the noobness)

1. Where do you find all those other MadvR options? I keep seeing references to some beta version (113) but where do I download it and how do I install it?

2. Provided that I've "unlocked" madVR with those extra options, what would be a starting configuration/setting for my GTX 1070 GPU and the BenQ HT3550? The goal is to get rendering time to around 30ms like most of you here. I'm willing to sacrifice picture quality for a smooth playback with my video and audio in sync.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, a quick PSA - This thread's primary purpose is to discuss the latest MadVR builds, different HSTM settings, etc. The general assumption / theme of this thread is that you already have MadVR fully set up and operational.

folks looking for initial setup and troubleshooting details, you will get much more help in these 2 threads below:

@EdenResident - http://madshi.net/madVRhdrMeasure113.zip is the latest build. i'd recommend reading through the last month or two of this thread, there are many of your questions already answered in detail.

Hi, I checked this scene without MadVR, that flicker is cooked into the source at 00:38:19 and is not related to MadVR.

Do you have any other examples, I can check the source and post a clip.

Yes, to watch movies at least, because smooth motion is broken with v113.
