Saw the NX9 today .....wow.....

Also saw the N5 next to the Sony VW570, the N5 is imho the better unit. More light, sharper and more depth. Only the motion was better on the Sony.

I purchased the i1Display Pro (not the i1Display Pro 2), back when I pre-ordered my RS2000, not realizing I needed the Pro 2 to work with JVC's calibration software. Now I am past the return period. I am a novice with projector calibration and expect to only use JVC's calibration software. I'd rather not invest the $$ for the i1Display Pro 2, and am debating between the Spyder 5 Pro and Spyder 5 Elite. Is there any benefit to going with the Elite?
hi you can use the less expensive Spyder5 express with the JVC software, you don't need the pro or elite version.

I would keep the Display Pro, you can use it with the open source calibration software HCFR, there is a discussion on it below.

https://www.avsforum.com/forum/139-d...-software.html

The Spyder is mainly used to fix what is call 'gamma droop' which happens to the majority of the current JVC e-shift projectors. it happens over a period of time and the image can lose it's 'pop' since the gamma isn't correct. This is an extreme example below that can be corrected with the Spyder and the free JVC autocal software. That line should be flat across 2.3 and you can see how it dips down to 1.8 gamma which will cause issues with the overall PQ.

you would check the gamma with the Display Pro and if it's off, correct it with the Spyder / Autocal. The Display Pro can then be use to check and adjust greyscale and also color gamut.

I don't recall hearing about the gamma droop on the current JVC 4K laser models so we'll have to wait and see if it's still an issue on the new JVC 4K lamp models.

Awesome. But now you're going to get questions from everyone.

Of course, motion is a huge part, unless you plan on only watching stills. Was the Sony 570's motion better than the NX9's too? Did you view in controlled room? Was the 570's contrast on par with the NX5's?

Also, what stood out most with the NX9? Thanks in advance.

There was a report that after about 800 hours, a laser projector drooped even more than the lamp-based of the last series. Someone care to post that link. I don't have the time or the energy to go back and look for the post. Thanks.

Oh crap.....haha

No motion looked really good on the NX9, it was a batcave with some light coming in from the curtens entrance.

There wasn't much difference in contrast with the sony but the picture of the N5 was more dynamic.

What stood out on the NX9 was the amount of licht, the colors and sharpness.....the whole package.

The Sony 570 is equal to the Sony 695 in U.S. model..right? So its JVC's $6k projector versus a Sony's $10K projector. Pretty nice review/comments that the JVC is still superior in many aspects.

Frohlich, as more reports are coming in, this NX9 is beginning to sound like a monster!

Jbarteli, two more for you, :do you know if the dynamic iris was operating on the NX9? Was it turned on?

The 570 is €8k and the N5 €6k here.

No I do not, I do know on the other projectors it was off.

from this forum? I just checked the 4500 thread and only 1 comment about gamma droop shows up from a fellow with an e-shift model.

Ya, I would say that if you don't need better motion or lower input lag then the N5/N7 is hard to beat in the US for sure.

Yeah..someone here posted a statement with a reference that a laser projector, don't recall which brand, showed gamma droop after about 800 hours that was worse than the droop of lamp projectors. I can't find the post now. so until the poster or someone helps with linking to the credible reference and post, I'll withdraw my statement.

It was an X990 that drooped down to ~2.0. The 4500 has been out for a while, I would think there would have been some conversation if it was still an issue.

I'm glad they are continuing with the autocal + meter support just in case.

Curious on the comments above about the motion being better on Sony, what about the motion is better? Ghosting/response on pixels or something? I have a sony now. Moving to rs2000 so curious about that one.

Depends on who you ask, what their manual iris is set at and if they find the DI distracting at that point. I turn the DI off for my scope HDR because I run the iris wide open and the DI is distracting at that point and not worth using for me. This is just something you'll have to view and decide for yourself though.

Thanks. That's good to know, Zombie, 'cause if there are significant delays with the NX9, I may have to revisit my options.

Okay, so I just went back and looked in this forum with search words 800 and 1800 hours, as I couldn't recall if he said it was after 800 or 1800, and found nothing on point. The poster may have deleted that post, meaning it might have contained error but I don't think it pertained to the RS4500/Z1 anyway. So, we'll leave it that the JVC RS4500/Z1 does not show evidence of gamma droop.

Agreed on having the autocal just in case.

Frankly, a couple of off-topic posts is fine, but it's getting annoying. Now that you guys know you share the same interest in toys and have done your bit of self-promotion, please take your cars discussion in a chit-chat thread and don't bother those who are happy not having to read anything until there is actual information. I am not subscribed to this thread to read off-topic bragging posts on cars, sorry. If you post a link here, those who enjoy that can subscribe to that thread and they won't miss any of the fun. That's the way it works...

I have put a lot of posters on my ignore list because they never, ever post anything useful, but I can't put you (and a few other of the cars offenders) on my ignore list, so please guys, show some mercy

The thread is already full of on-topic garbage, no need to add to that!
Agreed! I couldn't possibly care less about cars, but I am interested in hearing about the new JVCs. If there is nothing new to report, let the thread rest until there is vs PAGES of car talk. I drive two POS cars that get me to and from work and I'm fine with that right now. Hopefully the car talk can be taken to the appropriate forum which isn't here.

I believe the latest is late November arrival at customs and early to mid December to customer's hands.
