Was Reference the color profile? That means you were using P3. For Blu-ray or DVD use Standard or Custom 1. That should fix the over saturation issue.

Merry Christmas to you, and everyone too!

Didn't get time to watch Christmas movie, but helped cook dinner and ran some new coax for awesome new 9 inch screen for her vanity lol. She was so happy she clapped her hands

My present: she traditionally doesn't like big screen, and has refused to watch even one movie on big screen. She said if I get her the first Mary Poppins, she`'ll watch it on JVC when it comes in. We're blessed

Edit: thank you to Mary Poppins, Santa Claus, JVC, and all you AVSF folks who turned me on to JVC May finally get to enjoy one of my hobbies with my wife

Dave

NX5 or NX7

Merry Christmas!

I am considering replacing a Sony HW50ES with either a NX5 or NX7. It is in light controlled dedicated HT.

I take it from the posts these are not yet shipping, is that correct? Also, I am concerned about the weight of these units—40 plus lbs. My Sony is ceiling mounted using a chief mount on an extension pole. It is rated for 50 lbs but these are a good 10 pounds heavier. Any concerns?

Lastly would a eshift 790 be a better value than going to true 4K. I haven’t been able to find any reviews on these new units. Thanks for any advice.

H/T: Marantz 7702MK II, MM8077, MM7055, Triton 2s, SCXL, SL/SR-S50s, BL/BR-S50s, H/W-4 Sat3s, dual SB16 Ultras, JVC DLA-RS2000, Stewart Cima Neve 110", Tivo Bolt, PS-3, Apple 4K TV, GIK Acoustics treatments, Panasonic UB820
Gameroom: Denon AVR-X4500H, Emotiva 2-T1’s, C1, 2 B2’s, 4 NHT ceiling speakers, 2 Velo SPL-1000R, Sony XBR85X900F, PS4 Pro, Tivo Bolt,Oppo 203

The NX5 or NX7 can't even compare with the Sony.
Far superior lens, HDR tone mapping, true 4K and you don't have to worry about contrast degradation.
And I don't care what people say, you can see the difference between real 4K and e-shift, Woofer confirmed that one as many others.

From what I've been reading about shipping, we'll probably know early January, but not now, most of the planet is on holiday.

And about the 790, it depends, some are bothered by e-shift noise, but it's the other things that I mentioned that make it better then the 790.

The only thing that the NX5 and NX7 are lacking compared to the 790 is contrast.
The 790 is rated at 130,000 to 1 native, while the nx5 is 40,000 and 80,000 to 1 for the NX7.

It depends what's important to you.

If you can wait until the production units are in the hands of Arrow and others so we can see real world caparisons rather then just printed specs.

Can't comment on your mount, I have a shelf mount.

See this post too.

I will be mounting my incoming NX7 using a Chief mount. I am figuring using an extension pole when I get down to it. Can you DM me with a picture of you mount setup? Thanks.

If your HW50 is still working, bide your time for a couple of weeks until the new JVC's are out. The RS540 eshift projectors will still be available. And I have no doubt your existing Chief mount ( assuming it's an RPA or RPMA ) will work fine.

Yes, it’s still working fine. I still have the extra unused bulb that they were giving out. I’ll probably wait till these new units are out. I hate to miss the latest tech!

Here pics of the mount. I believe it is a RPA.

I'm on the fence between the NX5 and the NX7 -- and have been for some time (my rear end is getting sore). When I look in the difference in price, it seems small enough to justify the upgrade to the NX\7, even though the specs seem pretty similar except for the contrast ratio. OTOH, when I watch my current projector, which is an old JVC RS1, it still looks pretty darn good (the adage "ignorance is bliss" is somewhat applicable here since I have nothing to compare it to).

So I'm wondering if the NX5 will give me 80% or so of the improvements the NX7 will bring - you know, the usual issue of diminishing returns. But then, I see a lot of folks who aren't in the NX9 territory talking about how they have the NX7 on pre-order, and I hear less talk about the NX5.

So the question I have is: what do you guys think are the meaningful real-world differences between the NX5 and the NX7 that might justify the extra expenditure?

Since JVC announced on the 21st, that production actually started, I do not expect the wait to be very long before we see some units arriving in the US. Looking forward to actually having an owners thread.

Seconded!

There is a silver-lining to the delay... it's going to feel like Christmas all over again whenever that JVC box is delivered to your front door!

Hope you all be happy with the new projectors and have no issue with them. I'll drop by this year and wait for next year. I'm getting a very beautiful image out of my X 950, 780 hours in it and a spare lamp. Happy new year to all of you.

I didnt read that from the announcement at all. It says 'we are moving forward with...'

- moving forward, "Overused buzzwords used mainly in the corporate world.
These unnecessary words are consistently used to denote something new in a company; be it a policy or a procedure."

English isnt my strongest language but I read that as we are in the process to start in the imeadiate near future?

For what I know they may have started 21st of december, but I think they would have formulated it a little different then, the formulation in the letter was pretty vague.

My RS4500 says " made in Thailand ", so they are probably made in Thailand. I haven't had a lick of trouble with my RS4500, no matter where it was made.

They've been vague from the very beginning. First implying these were 1 week from shipping back in October and then suddenly telling us they didn't even start mass manufacturing. Only way we'll know for sure is when they actually show up on someones doorstep.

It isnt about who is right, it is about when the new JVC projectors arrive.

I hope they arrive tomorrow, but I couldnt read very much from the JVC letter, still pretty vague.

These things do happen. But can you blame JVC for trying to:

May the success of a Nation be judged not by its collective wealth nor by its power, but by the contentment of its people.

GREAT NEWS! I just got word from JVC that the new NX units are expected to arrive by JVC early next week.

"Great news on the production of the DLANX7 and DLANX9. We are expecting our first imports and initial quantities to arrive early next week! They will go through QC testing and then will be available for shipment. The initial imports quantities are small to start, but we are expecting additional units to follow (no set ETA yet). I will keep you updated!"

We've got a couple units allocated to us on that initial shipment; not nearly enough to meet all pre-orders but it's a good start.

I hope they arrive tomorrow, but I couldnt read very much from the JVC letter, still pretty vague.
I would not hold my breath expecting tomorrow. But actual production did start and it does not take that long to produce a run of projectors. Shipping is by air, so that takes a day. Then you have customs and USA QC.
