Regarding nx9, Arrow, how bout your iPhone pic of single pixel pattern on nx9? Despite i-phone, if I remember right, it was pretty impressive, possibly even better resolving of pixels. But to be expected with nx9's higher mtf lens as compared to n5
50% and this is not the NX9 but the N5

So, if there were only 19 nx9/RS3000 in California undergoing QC at same time as THX certification came out, wonder if any of the 1st 19 units were used in certification?

If so, would be cool if the serial numbers communicated so the owners could know. Don't know why, but I think that would be just so cool to know if mine was one of the ones. A cool little piece of paper saying so would be so much cooler than a free bulb!

The giveaway in this particular instance is the blurred screen and blurred screen perforations. It's total B.S.

The fact of the matter is that BOTH of these projectors, namely the JVC RS3000/NX9 and the SONY 995/870ES are sharp and neither is blurred like that. BOTH projectors feature high quality expensive glass lenses and optics. There are some slight differences in lens and optics performance, which I will be covering in my in-depth analyis and comparisons. However, attempting to paint a picture that one is sharp and the other is all blurred is a joke

Amongst numerous other things I will be using THIS my latest amended version of the Quick Brown Fox test pattern. This is the ultimate torture test for native 4K projectors:

But it should be here soon enough. I can't wait to see how it compares with my Sony 385. I am expecting a bit of an upgrade although the Sony has been performing well. However, in terms of brightness, sharpness, contrast, full P3 color, and auto tone mapping features the Sony just can't compare on paper.

I am scheduled to get my projector on Monday. If I have time I will try to do a Windows Explorer file listing to show black text on white background. Mostly I will be trying to get this set up enough to watch the NCAA Football championship.

Disappointing on both counts considering the NX9 is supposed to be sporting the same lens as the Z1 lens so definitely so sample variance as you mention. Also a shame about the ANSI numbers being close to Ekki's considering there was word coming they were supposed to be a 50% improvement in them for the N series. Looks like a 50% backwards step to me.

Will await Arrow's full review and other users impressions as they trickle in.

I love McDonalds I won't really have time to set things up since much of my theater is out of commission at the moment (lighting strike). I had my AV installers on standby waiting to revive things once the new JVC projectors were available. The theater is part of my whole home automation system. Don't want them to visit any more than necessary. The projectors are available now so I will have the installers here soon.

Not sure if i am seeing the DI in action or it is the camera auto adjusting, but it looks like there is DI movement to close on lower APL scenes and then when the scene goes brighter, the DI takes the 3+ frames to open up.

At :52 ... cut to the mid framing of Idris pulling guns, the DI movement seems to be opening. Might be most dramatic DI movement in clip. This clip is a pretty good mix of cut scenes which would challenge DI movement.

So, DI engagement looks similar to my x990 DI. I dont have Dark Tower in my collection to compare.

Trying to check for gamma processing crush coming out of black, but quality of video prevents clearly seeing highlights. Look at 1:45 highlights on Idris face on cut. I think i am seeing the gamma crush back off.

Anyone with a nx5, nx7 or nx9, here is the source clip i use for torture testing DI gamma processing crush. Play with DI OFF and in alternate modes so you might report what you observe.

Watch the detail in the gore tex powder coming out of black.

http://blanca.com/JVC/DI%20Test%201a.mp4

Here is what DI looks like on x990 for comparison ... OFF - Auto 1 - Auto 2

That video is crap, and if that movie is what I think it is, it's crap too. You can't rely on random video shot on God knows what kind of video camera. Was a $5K video camera used, or an iPhone ? Who knows.

Yup, pretty crappy video, was trying to come up with joke about how awesome the YouTube of rs3000 looked on my 5040ub , but hen just left it to the simple point that they looked to be actully finally showing up in the wild.

Do you even read entire posts?

I conceeded the quality of the video, but it still looks like DI movement despite the quality of the video. Even a poor camera would not increase gain going from dark to light, auto mode would work in reverse, as can be seen in some sections.

In any case, DI function on the new units will be something to check and the clip i provided can test for gamma processing of DI mode.
