Yeah that's my main question on the n7 is if the contrast and color filter combo are worth 2k more. N5 is right in my budget

Thanks to Mike, Arrow-AV and others for providing us feedback from the show. I was pleasantly surprised to see what JVC has done with the RS540. It will be an excellent choice for folks in the market for entry level UHD. And with street pricing a very tempting alternative for those looking at something like a 5040UB. I guess I don't look at my RS520 as an investment so no sour grapes that this cuts into the resale. It will sell for what it sells for.

The only thing that really sticks out as an issue is that the N5 does not have the P3 filter and the cheaper RS540 does. That gives JVC a very curious position where the cheaper model has features the more expensive one lacks.

The Panny would be perfect if it had an input and could process everything that passes through. The blu ray drive in those devices is worthless to me, all my blu rays go straight to hard drive when I buy them and then in a box in a closet. I have no need for a player in my rack.

Hello everyone!

Great news and nice discussions on these native 4ks.

Im sorry if this was addressed but does the nx9 ACCEPT native 8k with their 18 gbps inputs and display it or just upconvert existing 4k to 8k

Thanks

It uses eShift to upconvert 4K to 8K

AFAIK, you will need HDMI 2.1 for native 8K stream but I may be wrong on that point.

We'll see what actually happens, but at least according to Oppo, they are committed to further bug fixes and enhancements. From their FAQ:

Quote:
Will there still be firmware upgrades for my OPPO products?

Yes, products will continue to receive firmware upgrades from time to time when new features or bug fixes warrant such an upgrade. Newer products such as the UDP-203 and UDP-205 will likely receive more frequent upgrades while mature products such as the BDP-103 and earlier models will only get firmware upgrades if there are critical fixes. If your player is connected to the Internet, you can check for firmware upgrades by going to the Setup Menu / Device Setup / Firmware Upgrade / Via Network. New firmware will also be posted on the support pages of the corresponding products (https://www.oppodigital.com/Support.aspx)

I have a few ideas, but they certainly aren't family friendly. Bottom line, make sure you never leave personal videos in a player so your friends can turn on the projector and see everything at 100x scale.

I wish I was joking.

@Mike Garrett said not to this question as there is a limitation in the hardware that prevents the current e-shift projectors to get the Auto Tone Mapping function.

Thanks for the quick replies.
Looks like they went the route of the 4k eshifters from 5 y ago just upconverting first then accepting in the later models?

IMHO it seems the 8k not THAT big of deal. Its more the better lens, 2200 lumens and hand picked parts. The nx7 seems better buy for me personally.

Only problen for me is i JUST BOUGHT dla 790 6 months ago and now I have to go through hassle of selling it for a slight improvement. Also the longer i wait the more my 790 drops in value!😨

The N7 may end up being brighter at -15 than the Nx9
That is based on a laser system that has low, medium and high. Also is that from Ekki? If so his JVC numbers are always low, just like his Sony numbers always seem to be high these days. Three years ago I agreed with his numbers, now I just shake my head. Absolute proof of that was confirmed when Sony showed on screen the native contrast number for Sony and it agreed exactly with Kris, not Ekki.

We can't test anything, since these are prototype projectors. They don't want any settings messed with during the demos, of which there are a lot of ! They don't want anything to get screwed up mid Cedia. Back to Cedia and JVC for more impressions in one hour.

I don't see anything driving HDMI 2.1 for most of us for years. UHD discs don't need it and there isn't likely to be anything better for quite some time. If they push 8K on us streaming wise and I have slum it by selecting 4K I think I will live.

As a X7900 (~200h used) owner, looking to upgrade to a N7 this is not good news to me.
I may have just lost 3000k euros from the value in just 9 months, and can't stomach the upgrade anymore.
Prices can come down when new models are announced. That happens all the time. last year, I don't recall anyone complaining about the 5 series MSRP price drop of $1,000 or the 6 series MSRP drop of $2,000. Also, when ever a model has carried through for a year, the price has dropped. Same thing happened with the RS46, when it carried through.

A lot of us use the PS4 and Xbox for gaming and the next gen game system to be released by 2020 should have HDMI 2.1. That is my big concern, not for 8K but for all the other things it brings, which may or may not make much difference

I think it’s mainly gamers who want HDMI 2.1. I’m in that group and I want it just for the variable refresh rate. After gaming on my G-Sync monitor I can confirm that it makes a huge difference

Probably. They didn't have an RS3000 and 4500 set up side by side. That said, I'm not replacing my RS4500. But, I'm happy for the new RS3000 owners - the picture looks outstanding ! As it should - same killer lens !

JVC is talking about shipping to distribution and dealers. That may happen at the very end of the month. Means customers would receive in November. That would be good, because dealers usually do not get them until end of November to first week of December.

Right...and Byte, we talked about this and recall that my only concern grew with my X990...their processor..I mean their processor/the way they tone map on UHD/HDR, I couldn't take it anymore that I just gave up. Now with this auto tone mapping, the new models look very appealing to me especially with the native panels, although I was hoping for something like a JVC NXZ5 laser ..maybe next year?

We have another meeting today, so we will see if that can be narrowed down.

Any idea when you guys are getting dealer prices? Any idea when pre-orders would start?
