VPL-VW285ES vs VPL-HW55ES

I am thinking about replacing my VPL HW55ES with the VPL-VW285ES to take advantage of the 4k formats of our Xbox One S/X and PS4 Pro systems. Will I see a difference? Good or bad? Seems like less lumens and possibly not as good of blacks? Will the 4k shine? Have a 126" Carada screen that we sit about 10' back from. Using an Onkyo RZ900 receiver.

I got a super good deal back in 2015 on my HW55ES as B Stock and it was brand new with 0 hours. Any deals like that going on with the VW285ES?

Going from a HW50ES to a VW285ES is an absolutely massive improvement. The lumens won't make much of a difference as I don't think the lamps on the HW50ES were that great (If they're the same as my older HW40ES than I'm sure). I also believe the contrast would be a whole lot better too.

I replaced my VPL-VW40 with the VPL-HW55ES and have been super happy with both. So it sounds like the 4K from the 285ES will definitely be a noticeable improvement? Anything to worry about with my Onkyo? I had to upgrade my receiver last time as my Onlyo 875 would not work with the 55ES.

+Better Lens
+Better Sharpness
+Better Contrast (Not a big upgrade in this area because 285 doesnt have an iris)
+Native 4K Panel with HDMI 2.0
+Better 3D
+Reality Creation Version II
+A bit better motion and some better colours

-Same Calibrated Brightness
-285 fan noise is louder
-55 comes with a pair of 3d glasses, 285 with no 3d glasses

Sorry for my English, I Hope this helps

Thanks, I am really excited about the prospect of the 4k on games/movies. Is the fan significantly louder? I do not notice the 55 at all even with it over my head and just behind. I bought numerous pairs of glasses for my 55. The same glasses will work?

Any issues with my Onkyo? I was bummed when I had to get a new receiver from my 40 to my 55.

Hi there, thought I would chime in as a former 55ES and 285ES owner.

The 285 sure is an improvement over the 55, most definitely worth it!

The fan of the 285ES is a bit louder, even in low lamp mode, but it was not really bothersome to me. High lamp mode is quite noisy but I never use it anyway.

None of the 3D glasses for the 55 will work with the 285.

Don't know about your Onkyo, but keep in mind this is a 4K/HDR projector, so your AV receiver will need to be able to accept the signal.

Your Onkyo RZ900 doesn't seem that old, should be no issues.
