Yeah, I do like the OLED TVs that I've seen in stores (granted, they always use the best demo materials, but still, they do look nice). But IMO, a 77" OLED when sitting 13' away would be too small.

That’s my concern also. I could easily move my couch and side speakers to be ~10 ft. from an OLED screen, but I’m not sure it will have the same “impact” as a 100” screen, from 13’, which is what I currently have, albeit at 1080P and without HDR.

Or you can keep the 100" screen and still move the couch closer to the screen :-) . For me at least, moving MLP further away from back wall improved the sound (and made my viewing angle even bigger). Another consideration is how much movies versus TV shows you watch. The movies (newer ones at least) will be available in 4k and HDR (taking greater advantage of 295 over the 50), but TV shows are only 1080p and are SDR (which your existing projector already handles well).

I probably watch more TV than movies. Today, I can buy a Samsung 82” Q90 R for roughly the same price as the Sony projector. I think the Q90R flatscreen and moving my couch closer may be the direction I go this Christmas.

I don't know, you would be surprised at how good these projectors are......I will keep a projector, I can tell you that

I may be reaching out to you in a few months. I assume you sell all options I’m considering (77” OLED, 82”Q90 and VPL-VW295)?

Has anyone found a hack'ish way of doing lens memory for CIH screens? Serial control with specific delays work reliably enough maybe? I'm looking for any way of avoiding having to manually zoom and focus, that's not something the wife is willing to do.

I just read Sony's CEDIA 2019 press release:

https://www.sony.com/en_us/SCA/compa...expo-2019.html

Does this mean that the VPL-VW295ES projector won't be replaced for at least another year? I assumed that they would be a newer model, given that the VPL-VW285ES came out in 2017 and the VPL-VW295ES came out in 2018.

Does anyone have experience with Sony service? I’ve had my projector for less than a year and the fan went out. It’s been about 5 weeks now and I still dont have a working projector. I’ve been told they still don’t have the correct part to fix it and it’s back ordered. This is pretty poor customer service for a $5k projector. I’ve loved Sony till now but I may sell this thing when I finally get it and go back to a JVC or Epson. It’s sad cause epson guarantees a 2 day turn around.

I had my dealer call for me twice. Once was a bad fan and the other I had a yellow bar across the top. In both cases they replaced my 295 by taking my credit card and putting a hold on it for a new projector. They sent me the new one and I then boxed up the defective in the box the new one came in and sent it back to them. When they received it, they released the credit hold.

I bought it from Crutchfield...not sure what all they can do. Just frustrating that I’m without a projector for so long.

Well, current owners of this projector may be pleased to know that this model is still current!

If I had 700K to spend I would still prefer a projector because of the reflections:

I have been noticing some strange images from my projector on scenes with light backgrounds. They tend to go all the way across the screen and are located just below the centerline of the image. They are repeating rectangular shaped images.
Anyone have an idea what this may be.

What you see in those two pictures is called banding (posterization) which is kinda "normal" on the 295ES even that it has full 18Gbps HDMI 2.0 ports. That is one of reasons I decided to sell mine as I'm very OCD with banding. To make it less visible you have to set "Smooth Gradation" in LOW. More than LOW (Medium or High) will make the picture look soft and some details will be lost.

Thanks for the response but I'm referring to the other elements in the image, not the banding. I've narrowed it down so you can see what I'm referring to. I've crudely outlined it. As I mentioned, it repeats all the across the screen from side to side.

Are you in the UK?

Ideally your dealer should be giving you a replacement and dealing with Sony. But that *can*depend on how long you have had it....

5 weeks with no unit is poor.

If you are dealing with Sony direct, (which I am guessing you are) then demand a new replacement as you didn't pay them 5 grand for an empty ceiling bracket and a blank screen!

Got it. That is a very weird geometrical pattern that I have never seen before on any projector. If it shows with all contents then it could be a defect/imperfection/mark on the optical patch. I would contact Sony and ask for a replacement. Also, make sure it's not a mark on your screen.

Well they definitely shouldn't be in the optical path I can tell you!

Might be some sort of restraining clip from one of the panels that has slipped or something....

To fill a 120" 16:9 screen the projector has to be located between 12'-8" to 25'-11".
Hi, what color paint are your walls?

That is not my system. My walls around the screen were covered in velvet. I don't have a projector anymore. I just got a Sony 77A9G OLED.

**3D HELP**

Does anyone know how I get the Sony to kick Into 3D mode from playing a SBS 3D file from my PC or Nvidia Shield?

When I press the 3D button on the remote It says "Not Applicable".

I have the 3D files on my PC In a folder, I just can't use them.

Thanks for your help.

I have a 295 but I'm not at home right now but on my old 55ES you went into the menu then the 3D option and then select SBS.

Ok it turns out if the projector is receiving a 4K signal then the 3D settings will not show up in the menu so go to your Nvidia Shield preferences and change the signal resolution to 1080p.

YES! Thank you! Now I can hunt for the best 3D glasses that will work well with the 295.
