I saw this movie last night. I can tell you that it is a stylised cinematography adopted by the director for that particular scene. It shows her mirror reflection. Don’t think too much into it. There is nothing wrong with the projector.

Correct. The only differences relate to language differences and that is all. There is absolutely zero difference with respect to actual video performance

Hi Al. I am aware, hence my asking if he was in the US as in a much older post he mentioned he was located in Texas. If true it would be a new firmware for the region.

To clarify, the firmware versions are not coded geographically... They added language information for additional regions which is why the firmware version number increased... So all models manufactured throughout the world are now v1.20, which includes the additional language information... It does not affect video performance however

Congrats, well you have something to look forward to. If you picked that unit up already open that box and check it out for concealed damage. Might want to power her on real quick to.

First impressions of the NX9...

1. It’s a very large and heavy projector. I am using the peerless mount and everything is sturdy and well supported.

2. I powered up the unit and found that convergence was off by 1 or two clicks (after a 1 hour warm up period). Using the whole adjustment, it was easily remedied.

3. I’m coming from an x990 and this puppy is noticibly brighter.

4. I’m projecting onto a grey aurora screen from Elunevision with 1.3 gain. With this screen, the blacks are just as inky as they were with my x990. I have tested out all the interstellar scenes, a bunch of other demo content to push the DI as well as a few movie samples. I did not notice any pumping in auto1 and auto2. I did notice that on the space scene for interstellar, it dimmed down more than I would like. I did not experience any loud DI noises. The DI noise level was the same as my x990. Very very quiet. I’d have to stand near the projector to slightly hear it.

5. I popped in Lucy and noticed that the auto tone mapping brought the brightness etc down a bit on the image compared to Manual settings. I increased the tone adjustment up a bit as the manual states it’s default value is designed for 90-120” screens. The tone mapping does work well though. The image looks incredible.

6. After playing with the projector for several hours, enabling 8k eshift does seem to add more sharpness and detail to the image from my front row of seating. (Seating at 8ft from screen) 135” CinemaScope screen.

7. I also installed my Paladin non-DCR lens. Wow!!! Is all I can say. An A lens along with the NX9 is an incredible combination providing the best picture I have ever seen on my screen.

8. I have tested changing from SDR to HDR etc and the sync times are very quick. I’d say around the 5-10 second mark. Unless I’m not doing this test properly, I’m not getting the long sync times others are experiencing.

I will try out the 3D on this projector hopefully today.

Everything has totally impressed me with this unit. The focus is dead on across the entire screen. Convergence is near perfect. Colors are vibrant. Blacks are inky.

I have a uhd60 projecting in a room with medium light control ( white walls, open living room but shades can be closed only remote light sources can not be controled) projecting on a whitish wall and the picture is great with only some problems with uhd60 artifacts. I was thinking of upgrading and the only options really for me where i live is a sony 295 bought without any warrenty ( shipped from abroad ) or a more expensive jvc n5 or its pro install version with local warranty but 2K$ more.

Would i really see much of a difference with these projectors in my setup? I can not demo either.
I know the n5 is not readily available to most but jvc does have a history so tell me what you think

Best of luck with your NX9. I don't mean to sound like a broken record, but please make the effort to watch "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" in 3D. The black levels & contrast should be absolutely jaw dropping in your HT.

Let us all stop being paranoid about our NXs and just enjoy them.

Its like we are trying very hard to look for issues that would transform our joy of buying these into some sort of a buyer's remorse.

I say this because I have done this several times over the past 3 weeks of owning NX7 ... looking for non-existent issues in focus, panel alignment, color space, noise etc etc etc. I didnt find any issues and then finally yesterday I sat back relaxed and watched Mad Max Fury road on the stunning projector with full atmos sound. The experience was breath taking!


Enjoy the PJs and stop over analyzing. There is nothing in the market that comes even close to their performance at this price point.


So relax, enjoy, you made a great decision in buying these.

Sadly it won't fit into the overhead of the airplane but there will be one and/or a 9900 so .... in any case I know my 9500 inside out so I will know instantly what I am comparing them to

Well said, they are stunning machines regardless of any early issues. Just enjoy them and don't read the forums the issues mostly would never be picked up by the average person anyway. We here are enthusiasts wanting 101% out of everything.

It's a tough call. The 4K DLPs throw the least impressive picture of any modern $2k+ projector I've seen, but those room conditions will limit just how much improvement you will see going to a Sony or JVC. I would still guess that you would see an improvement, just perhaps not enough to justify the cost. With some room changes either would easily trounce the DLP. You may also want to consider an Epson 5040 (or whatever has replaced it). You would still see a considerable bump in picture quality for less than the Sony or JVC.

If you move from a wall to a half decent ALR screen you might get the benefit of a JVC or Sony, but in current condition no.

I have a UHD65 and it thows a great picture in my dark room. I agree, not sure in that room that you are going to get the benefit. You may even want to look at the UHZ65 or BenQ to get a bright image. I am moving to an RS2000 but I have an ideal room.

If anyone going to this has House with a Clock in its Walls UHD, this would be a good test. It has great sharpness and HDR effects, but it also has lots of dark scenes that demand good on/off contrast. Often the scenes contain both good HDR elements/highlights and large areas of darkness at the same time. So I'd like to hear which projector is the best at displaying punchy HDR while also maintaining good black levels.

Thanks! I was really gonna go for the X7900 before posting just because I was tired of waiting, but your comments helped me realize it'd be pretty stupid to be impatient about this. What's few more weeks, right?

In the end I told the dealer I won't be needing the X7900 and will take N5 instead, should get one during this month luckily. Might even go for N7 if I can convince myself that it's worth the extra investment.
