Timed my RS1000 time to logo today @40 seconds with v 1.19. I have no reason to go to 1.20 at this point.

So, will an IR 3D emitter work with these, or does it have to be an RF emitter?

Yep enough for JVC to slow production right down again it seems..
Seems like units are flowing pretty good now, except for the NX9 / RS3000. In the USA anyway.......

RF emitter the model number eludes me. I just got my first pair of expand vision glasses. So I'm ready to try out 3D on the big screen.

As far as I know, you can use both an IR or RF emitter.

See the NX7 manual:
http://www33.jvckenwood.com/pdfs/B5A-2809-01.pdf

Page 9 says you can use PK-EM1 (IR) or PK-EM2 (RF) emitters.

Do NOT use a pressure can on this or any other lens. they are waaay to strong. They are also blowing very cold air.

It most likely will not need cleaning unles you got your fingres on it. and small visible dust is going to be there no matter what.

If you must clean it do this:

Wash your hands thtorough with soap and water. or put on gloves. grease from your fingers will smudge or get picked up by the cleaning cloth.

Use a brand new micro-fibre cloth (or one that has just been washed) and gently brush from the center to the outside. Some cloths are better than others, the newer types feel "grippy" and soak up grease fast.

If there is still any grease on the lens then use a new single-pack wet cloth designed for cleaning coated eyeglasses, same deal middle to out (so you don't drag stuff from the out sides into the lens).

If there is still grease even after this (which there should not be unless you smeared it with popcorn grease), put a very small dot of plant-based, non perfumed, dish-washing liquid (not petroleum based) on a cloth and apply to lens, then wash off with a damp cloth then finally with a dry cloth. THIS SHOULD NOT BE NEEDED but is a last resort.

Thanks for the clarification. I do know that production is ongoing, but yes it has been slow rollout.

Auto-Tone mapping

So I've got 180 odd hours on the projector now and have pretty much got the settings bedded down now so I though I'd share.

Setting the Mapping level for Auto-Tone mapping raises both picture tone an dark tone; but it also seems to raise the black floor, which kills contrast and DI. Its not easy to get a manual setting that matches auto. So I played around quite a bit on how to counter that. I found best way is to reduce the brightness control as you increase the mapping level. For mapping level + 3 I use brightness -8.

This is not crushing blacks, contrast is back and DI is working as expected. You get auto-mapped HDR that works most all of the time. It is easy enough to change brightness if you do come across something that obviously crushes.

SDR performance is just suburb as is, I don't use DI with SDR. Set brightness -1.

I've viewed one HDR title so far that really tripped up auto-mapping and the required wildly weird manual settings to display correctly (Paddington 2 on itunes -8, 0 -7, ) I use brightness 0 for manual settings.

How is it possible that we have same projector on same firmware but mine takes 2 whole minutes longer to get to logo?

I'd love to show it to you sometime! Unfortunately, at the moment my theater isn't functional. This is a new theater that I'm building (in a house that I'm totally renovating) - there was an issue with the carpet install (wrong color) that I'm still trying to resolve with the carpet company. So right now the projector, speakers, chairs, and everything else is sitting on the floor in the master bedroom.
I had the RS3000 operating for only part of a day to make sure it was fully functional. For what I saw in that short amount of time, I thought the picture was quite excellent. Looks like it's going to be another 3 weeks or so before I'll be able to enjoy it! Pretty frustrating.

I'm really interested in what markmon1 had to say about using MadVR with the JVC projectors in this forum - I doubt I would have considered it otherwise. So now my next-gen HTPC will have to include that as well. I'll be thinking about this while I wait for the carpet to be resolved.

I'd also be interested in seeing your RS2000 when you get it set up.

You wanna bring the projector out to Hillsboro and do side-by-side with the RS4500?

Yeah, that could be fun! I just got sick with a cold a few days ago, but once I get over that, I'd love to see your RS4500 in action - especially with MadVR.

After a month of waiting I finally received my RS3000 replacement for my yellow blob infected unit. The new projector seems like a keeper. The focus and convergence are spot on, no iris noise, no bright corners, and it even seems a little brighter. It arrived with firmware 1.17 installed. An interesting note is that the serial number is only 30 units away from my original unit so maybe it is from the same lot. I thought I might get a unit with a newer build month. Maybe they are not shipping that may 3000s.

My day typically starts at around 4pm as well...and if the sun is coming up, it's time for bed.

For those who have seen both, is the N9/RS3000 worth the extra $$ over the N7/RS2000?

Really would love to see all 3 units, calibrated by the same person compared side by side.
