So with these native 4K D-ILA devices, they basically had to "start over" with the quest of delivering incredible BL and contrast. From what I know the RS1000-RS3000 use JVC's 3rd gen native 4K D-ILA devices. The current max native contrast is 100,000:1. I think when they get to the 5th or 6th gen version of the native 4K D-ILA devices, then there will be some nice improvements in that area of PQ. Imagine a projector like the RS3000 with it's amazing lens for a tack sharp picture, but with native 160,000:1 or even 200,000:1 native contrast! Plus by then they'll hopefully improve their dynamic iris to eliminate unwanted artifacts and increase dynamic contrast. That's my dream projector. And I know it's going to happen, JVC will deliver the goods... the only question is when. I got time in my hands, so I'll wait. The only thing I didn't mention is laser, but until prices go down for a JVC laser projector, there's no point in talking about something that is out of reach for me. Laser is great, but bulbs will do for now.
Your dream projector may be around the corner. I think before long we'll see laser white light globes:

Perhaps with a less aggressive DI and laser modulation.

For projection I go by my 1 meter rule. Two seats abreast 2 meter diagonal screen, 3 seats abreast 3 meter diagonal screen etc.

1:1 is too close for my eyes. Granted my projector is e-shift, but even a 4k master will have less than 4k sources at times.

I’m 1:1 from my 118” wide scope screen. Nobody complains it’s too close. And I can seat 8 comfortably in one row. Maybe you need a native 4K projector!

My N7 deal

Hi folks...I “thought” I made an N7 purchase last week but it fell thru as there was a pricing discrepancy I wasn’t happy with...After leaving pity city, I thought I have not watched a flick in a couple weeks so I wanted to refresh my memory on what my Sony 85” 900F FALD tv looked like...I sit about 9 feet back and this is what I see...I have a triple black velvet wall on the front and sides and black carpet...it works out to about an 80” diagonal 2.35 image...it’s not as crappy as people think...I can’t even see the letter box areas...

This is the 3rd time I watched Everest with the previous 2 times on my JVC x950 that I replaced with the Sony...I’m just being honest but this viewing was the most immersive viewing (coupled with a killer Atmos track) and absolutely 0 tweaking of any sort...nice and bright with 1000 nits to play with...as I said, it’s not as crappy as people think...still pursuing an N7 tho 😀

I read about this SLD laser technology. How will this tech improve black levels and contrast? Will projector manufacturers use this in the near future? Or is this just talking about "possibilities" and nothing more?

Native contrast starts at the panel > light engine. So real improvements have to start there. However dimming to simulate better black levels aka RS4500 can be implemented.

This tech is similar to current laser/phosphor tech but at a much cheaper cost. It will make 'laser' affordable. They are getting some amazing light outputs and cooler running? But I think they will formulate the phosphor to have a life similar to globes. They can have a constant light output for the life of the 'globe' by increasing the supply voltage. Shorter life span for constant light output. That would be in the manufacturers interest.

I hope we see these sooner than later. Some cars are already using this tech, so it should filter down. EU power consumption regulations should help.

If I recall correctly David Matthews posted a link some time back of some headway being made in the projector front.

8 people in a row, now thats wide, I too would have a wider screen under those circumstances!

Sorry for the off topic, but have people noticed Oppo at Wimbledon? Looks like their Smartphones are doing well. Wished they had stayed in the AV business.

Mine has consistently been 1 minute since I first got the projector and is still one minute after swapping in my free replacement bulb and putting the original in storage.
I finally decided to try swapping the lamp. On the first startup, I got 1 min. 15 seconds. So, I was pretty hopeful. On the second startup, I got 3 minutes, so that's a little less encouraging. It's better than what I usually get, but not quick by any means. I'll have to test some more. Only thing else I can do, currently, is update the firmware (still using 2.01).

I am exchanging but do I have to worry about that happening again? Is that the same issue that lots seem to be having? BTW projector arrived with 2.06, I updated to 2.07 before doing anything and I have approx 30 hours on it.

40ft HDMI cable for N7

Hi folks...has anyone found a reliable reasonably priced 40 ft HDMI cable for the N7 on Amazon? Not really wanting to spend $2-300 on a cable so wondering what people have found that works...if you feel $2-300 is the pay to play price, just tell me...just looking to minimize the accessory costs if I can (ie. mount, cable etc)...thanks folks

My NX7 just arrived. Looking to mount it this week and get some initial view time this weekend. Will post with info on firmware I got with it and first impressions. Will primarily be streaming UHD ripped material from my Plex server (running via an Unraid server) which is running through my Nvidia Shieldm which runs through my Marantz Receiver. I have seen some posts regarding settings when running 4k HDR material via the Nvidia Shield and some quirks with how the settings need to be to properly present HDR video. Need to refresh myself on those posts.

Dumb question but is there anyway to flag posts so I could easily recall them? Been on this thread for some time, assuming I would remember things, and I havnt kept track of those informative posts and now wish I jotted them down.

I use this 40' Ruipro since Jan. 2018 and working well. Got it from Amazon, they show an instant $21 coupon bringing the final to $128. This is U.S. though.

Is it affordable to buy chinese ware in Canada ?
Here in France the Moshou 8K 48 Gbps fiber optic cables are very popular and renowned to work very well ( I have two 10 meters UGreen ones that work flawless too but "only" 4K 18 Gbps)

What I do is click on the post # link located in the top right corner of the post I want to save. Then bookmark or add to favorites depending on your browser, changing the bookmark title to something relevant to the post. I put all these bookmarks in a separate bookmark folder so they are easy to locate.

Yes, I'd be worried about it happening again, which is why you should exchange it. This is the problem and you'd be constantly waiting for it to happen again. Fun.

I mean any guarantee this isn't going with the next one?

This is probably one of the worst things you can do and just asking for trouble.

The only guarantee is that JVC will continue to replace it for up to 3 years. Other than that, there's no guarantee although it's probably not very likely (if we can believe the numbers). Honestly I feel like some of the dealers on here try to make it sound like the problem is not very wide spread (and this is the first time I've thought some dealers were overly optimistic), but to a lot of us it looks like quite a terrible and wide spread problem. I wouldn't feel comfortable unless I had a root cause by JVC and some sort of explanation as to what's happening and either that they fixed it with some FW version or that they know why it's happening and why a replacement is ok. At this point, you have a 3 year advanced exchange warranty (assuming you're in USA) and I'd demand a replacement right away. If you can hit 200 hours on the new unit without this happening, I'd feel 90% comfortable you are out of the woods.

That is probably the worst thing you can do. Just spend the money on the cable and be done with it. Now if you have an Onkyo AVR, then you might still have problems with the fiber optic cable. In that case, you will need to go HD Base T.
