Ok thanks. Do you have any recommendations on 1.0 or greater gain screen options (needs to be acoustic transparent)?
You'd have to go microperf for anything greater than 1.0. I'd suggest Severtson cinema white microperf, stewart studiotek 130 or 100, or stewart's more budget friendly cima "Perforado" which will actually bench higher than 1.1 stated gain.

BTW, Did you get an aurora screen? If so, any chance of getting a scrap cut from the bad one after you replace it? I can't bring myself to buy one because they won't send me a sample.

steve
Just don't. Of the dozen or so ALR screen samples I have, including the aurora, it is by far the worst. Their microperf pattern is distinctly visible from the seat at 14 feet, and they have by far the most noticeable color shift.

I would go by Stewart's gain listing. They are one of the few companies that are honest in their gain specs. With that said, the gain listed is for the fabric, before it is perfed. That applies to all companies, by the way. So ST130 microperf is an actual gain of 1.17. ST100 is an actual gain of 0.9. Severtson's Cinema White 1.3 (assuming 1.3 is correct) would also be 1.17 gain, once perfed. So ST100 microperf, does not gain you much gain over a woven screen, though it will be smoother than any woven screen, at least in between the holes. :)

By the way, I want to say that I am loving the Stewart 130 2.35:1 screen that I bought from AVS Science for my RS3000. The combination is outstanding.

Thanks, Mike.

I’m pretty new to looking at these screens, when you say micro perf are you talking about the acoustic version? I’m not looking for that. Or is microperf part of some alr process??

What is the secret to getting HDMI 2 to to accept any input signal such as a laptop thanks. Plugging in HDMI 1 everything works on that import
There is an option in the JVC menu to switch the EDID reporting (what resolutions the projector reports as supporting) for HDMI 2 from A to B. B is for "legacy" devices that only support up to 1080p - for example my Toshiba HDDVD player goes haywire unless I restrict the EDID to 1080p). Have you tried switching that setting?

#11,748 ·
So, how do I get the lens back to no shift? Did not see any onscreen indication of where it is. The projector is sitting on a shelf with threaded rods so I can adjust the shelf to the point of no needed lens shift.

BTW, I had initially set that shelf for the projector lens to be centered on the screen but with that the image was mostly on the ceiling. I ended up with the projector about a foot lower that that.

Thanks.
I wouldn't go out of your way to make sure you have *zero* lens shift. In fact there have been some ghosting/reflection artifacts observed on some of the new JVC units that go away if you use some lens shift. The only concern is that you may lose some image sharpness if you go to the extreme ends of the shift range but even that may not be severe enough to notice from your viewing position. I'm am using almost full vertical shift on my RS2000 and the image still looks great to me.

HD-DVD, wow! That is a blast from the past. Are you one of the loyal warriors who have taken a vow to never surrender :)

btw, out of curiosity I checked the HD DVD sub-forum and to my amazement there are still active posts and threads. So I obviously underestimated the resistance :)

Well, there are folks that still prefer LPs :) (I gave them up in '83 ;) )

Very different - Vinyl has had a legitimate resurgence in the last decade, where one can say it is almost mainstream again. Most importantly, new content and hardware is still being produced and sold every day. I actually went ahead and bought a player couple of years ago and resurrected old LPs and started adding to it.

I can't remember what year the evil blu empire won the war (was it 2007?) so definitely defunct format. No chosen one is going to come and lead the resistance :)

Well, it is different in that it was once the best we could obtain (even though 1 out of every 3 LPs I bought, and I bought alot, were bad and had to be replaced). I had no experience with HD DVD so can't really say much about it.

BTW I still have a turntable and about 50 LPs (down from about 2000) and about once a year play one to remind myself why I dumped the technology so fast back in '83.

However, my point was that people often hang on to obsolete technologies. :D

That stuff worth any money?

Greetings, apologize in advance if I am posting this in the wrong the thread. I upgraded my home theatre recently with the help of a local contractor, and everything (thankfully) came out excellent minus the missing JVC NX7. I ordered it back in February and now have the promise of an additional bulb, etc. But the delivery date seems to keep moving out, which has me concerned. So my questions are, have others had the same issue? Is JVC having major or minor technical issues (I read about some in this thread) that are causing the delays? And at what point should I cancel the order and wait until next year?

I waited for a few years to upgrade from my Sony 55es to 4k, and I am not blaming my contractor. But I just hate buying technology if it is first gen and buggy, or if it is older, which by possible by the time I receive it the new models could be a few months away.

Appreciate all input.

Thanks!

I don’t see how it would be a technical issue if there are plenty of NX5 to be had in stock.

The 7 is the same as the 5 except a second iris and extra color filter.

Certainly if there were technical issues with the NX line it would affect them all and not just the NX7.

The RS2000 / NX7 has been seriously backordered. Any technical problems that initially caused delays have been fixed, but they have never caught up order wise. Far more folks ordered RS2000's than the RS1000 and 3000 combined. But they are catching up with orders. June hopefully will be the month JVC catches up.

I have about twenty discs that I haven't replaced, though I intend to rip them with MakeMKV at some point so I can remove the player from the rack. All my WB discs I replaced with their swap program back in 2008, except they sent me an empty BD case for V for Vendetta and so I still only have that on HDDVD. It would make a great 4k with Atmos :)

Well, Today is a good day! Got the house sold, move into my new one july 31st and get to build the new HT room!
Even better is the people who bought my place, also bought my current JVC 420 projector and screen, so looks like Im "forced" into getting a NX5 or NX7 in the next month or 2!
Pretty pumped!

I wouldn't be getting the acoustic version. The RS series has a screen setting for adjusting to the Aurora colors, code 134, have you tried that and do you still see color issues?

thanks
steve
